are external hdd's really that unreliable? I wanted to get some storage for my chinese cartoons and other stuff and I am uncertain which one to buy since all of them have some bad reviews saying that they break after some months

I was specifically looking at a 1tb WD Elements hdd and the toshiba canvio basics, are there better alternatives? I don't need a portable hdd, it's just that they are cheaper

Is it against the law to rip a cd onto your computer, and convert the wma file online so it can be played into Audacity? i dont plan on distributing it, but by converting it on some conversion website isnt that technically distributing it?

If you want to brute force the travelling salesman problem and you have 15 different cities, will this take 15^15 instruction cycles? Meaning it would take an intel i7 which can do 82,300 million instructions per second over 5 million seconds to compute?

i.e. (15^15)/(82,300*10^6)

I know this may be like. the fetus knowledge of technology, but. okay. How do I back up my laptop 100% as if i had all my shit, my user profile, my background. my files, every fucking thing onto an external hard drive? I have the hard drive but I don't want to JUST back up files. I want to back up my experience so if I lose/break this laptop while I'm away, I can plug in and continue without a hitch. How do?
I am using a Toshiba Satellite P55W-C2500X running Windows 10 (I know, but I got used to it. CBB to change it).

I just finished renovating and want to set up media server under TV, mostly for photo storage.
I will have only a single 2TB drive for storage - what OS to use with it? Pirated winblows, loonix, or hardcore shit like freenas?
Also a thought just popped in my mind - can't encryption be disabled in OS by some policy? Because as I understand - WannaCry used windows encyption API and your own cpu to encrypt your stuff. Can't you just proactively disable it alltogether? I have no need for file encryption whatsoever.
