It's a horrible process, they literally read off a list of every comment you've ever written, and every website you've viewed.
I think my entire neck retracted into my body when the hiring manager read off a list of all the trap porn websites I've visited.

This thread is about the appreciation of horology, as well as the micro-engineering and materials engineering that are required to make a fine watch, clock, or other timepiece.

I run a VPN provider. What can I do to separate myself from the competition?
Basically up to scale with major providers as far as features go, and I undercut the fuck out of them.
What kind of tech can I implement to set my company out from the rest?
>>61003576
It's less about tech and more about the (perceived / potential) user experience.
Make sure you know your paranoid users and market yourself accordingly.

This may sound like a dumb question, but what is the purpose of installing linux over other "mainstream" operating systems? Why not any other Unix operating system?
>>61003538
Nobody? If this thread dies, I'll assume all you linuuxfags are doing it because you like the taste of your own cock
What other Unix systems do you have in mind? Because only other "mainstream" Unix based OS I can think of is MacOS.
>>61003590
Even MacOS is a good example. Why would someone run ubuntu on a macbook?

If you want help:
>State the budget for your build (and country if not the USA).
>List games/software you use often, as well as your monitor resolution + refresh rate.
>Clarify your goal for build improvements: lower price or improved specs?
CPUs:
>G4560 - Budget builds (<$500)
>R5 1400 - if you can't afford better or specifically need 8 threads but not a very powerful CPU
>R5 1500x - All you really need for 60fps with power to spare; Don’t get an i5.
>R5 1600 - Best value for higher fps gaming / mixed usage; Get a 1600x if you don't OC
>i7 7700k - Bad value but great at 144hz gaming
>R7/Xeon/Threadripper - Compute/Multitask/mixed use; Not required for just gaming.
GPUs:
>Integrated CPU Graphics - Desktop stuff and very light games
>RX 560 and GTX 1050Ti - Lower end budget cards, drop settings on newer games
>RX570 - 1080p@60hz at high, running most maxed older games at 144+hz.
>RX580 and GTX1060 6GB - 1080p@60hz maxed, 1440p@60hz at lower settings; Go for the RX580 if you can.
>GTX 1070 - 1080p@144hz /1440p@60hz at high
>GTX 1080 - 1080p@144hz / 1440p@60hz maxed, 4k@60hz in a few games; Probably the highest end card you need for 1080p/1440p.
>GTX 1080 Ti - 1440p@144 hz and 4k@60hz maxed/high in many games; You're kind of going overboard with this one.

General:
>ALWAYS LOOK AT PRODUCT REVIEWS!
>Always consider an SSD. Try buying a large SSD for what you'd pay for your SSD+HDD combined, and add a HDD later
>NVMe SSDs aren't for a faster OS boot, they're for productivity/scratch disk/VMs. NVMe and M.2 are not the same thing, M.2 is a form factor.

AMD is trying to re-enter the server market segment, Intel continues to deliver 20+ years of uninterrupted data center innovations while maintaining broad ecosystem investments. Xeon CPU architecture is proven and battle tested, delivering outstanding performance on a wide range of workloads and specifically designed to maximize data center performance, capabilities, reliability, and manageability. With next-generation Xeon Scalable processors, Intel expects to continue offering the highest core and system performance versus AMD. AMD’s approach of stitching together 4 desktop die in a processor is expected to lead to inconsistent performance and other deployment complexities in the data center.
>>61003313
>I'm a blatant Intel shill.
>>61003313
Given that Intel's new offering is going to end up being a 100k USD, 800 watt reactor just to compete with AMD's more coars I don't think that they have much of a future in HPC.
>>61003313
Every single sale AMD makes is lost revenue for Intel, they're shitting themselves right now, and lying to their investors about future guidance.

What kind of hardware would you recommend for someone just trying to host vulnerable VM images (stuff of vulnhub.com for example) in college. Basically just a simple hypervisor setup.
I was looking into a dual xeon setup, 20-30 gigs of RAM, etc. For around $100 - $150. But I'm told these things suck 300 watts at idle.
I'd only be using it when i'm practicing on the VM's, which isn't all the time.
Should I go with something more energy efficient? If so, what would that be? I'm just looking around my local craigslist right now. Looking for something used in the $100 - $150 range.
Thanks!
Pic related, it's an example of what I was looking at.

Energy is the number #1 cash grave.
People who buy cheap inefficient shit always end up paying more.

What's the problem? If you are in a dorm its free power, within reason of course. That is, until you trip the breaker or turn your room into a sauna.
More than 1 of those might heat up a dorm pretty quickly.
What is the best ide to use, /g/?
