I've been using a pirated copy of CS6 for years. I've no real complaints. One could argue the fact that user made scripts for even the simplest tasks like exporting layers to files are massively quicker and more efficient than the official inbuilt functions, but doesn't the fact they allow custom scripts for that purpose negate that? Really? I'm a photog rather than a drawing artist, but whenever I did try to draw anything in PS I found it frustratingly clunky, shit and useless (and that with a tablet which I use for my LR/PS work). Which made me think there was some secret magical painting software that all actual digital artists use.

Nah, it feels like that at first for everyone who is barely beginning to draw with it but you get used to it. It's better and easier for digital painting imo than it is for drawing even though you can draw really well depending on your skill level. Luckily there's a ton of settings to tweak with brushes and generally lots of cool features to make the painting/drawing really easy and seamless for us.

and it's essentially owned by Wacom.
And?
>Windows Ink works with any hid compliant tablet.
Why would I buy something not Wacom?

Windows ink:
>Worthless feedback features like ripples and showing you which keys do you press on screen
>Records your handwritting and sends it to microsoft
>Flicks and gestures make it useless
>Press and hold on a fucking drawing tablet
>Needing to change the registry and use hacks on PS to turn it off

Windows ink is so bad that the only way to make the Surface pro usable is by installing wintab.

>wintab drivers
Wintab is a dll that implements Wacom's proprietary standard for receiving pen input. It has little to do with actual drivers.
The issue that guy was having is probably because he was using an old version of photoshop that doesn't support Windows Ink. I think it changed in CS6.

>Why would I buy something not Wacom?
Because competition is good and until a good competitor shows up Wacom will keep selling you shit tables for twice their actual value.

>You need to mess with the registry and microsoft turns it back on anyways
I wanted to say that there's a single place to disable all of that but it actually seems to be missing in the latest Windows 10 update.
They probably fucked something up in the never-ending setting migration process.
Those options are still available via group policy though.

>use hacks on PS to turn it off
You need to use hack on newer Photoshop versions to re-enable Wintab support.

Bloat, Useless features, Subscription model, has been overpriced for years.
Meem painting (Seriously, the "real brush stroke" thing or whatever is awful compared to Corell painter etc..)

Personal: not into it's painting engine and takes too long to get common features(mirror).
Not going to say someone "SHOULD" be using anything however (just don't bother with gimp)
Whatever is best for your workflow is what is good, just try things out.
Suggest ZKrita to most people.
