What tiling window manager does /g/ use?
I use bspwm, but toggling floating/full screen is giving me issues with fish shell. What should I switch to?
>>61149516
awesome
>>61149516
Microsoft Windows
>friendly interactive shell shell
Remember when operating systems were comfy?
Now everything is so cold and sterile.
>>61149462
No. I remember when I could bring up task manager, and shut all but 2 tasks down though.
Yeah
Miss Mac OS 9 desu
does it sting to know that anyone can have a fully equipped mac for a fraction of the price and run macOS better than any official mac on the market?

DELET
>>61149364
No because I'm not retarded to actually buy hardware from Apple :^)

Hey /g/ starting my freshmen year of college in the United States in August. Does anybody have advice for a CS major?
Quit while you are ahead
>>61149332
Actually go to your professor. Shit helps a lot.
>>61149350
Yep, I am for sure going to do that.
I want to rip my purchased DVDS to put on my personal media server. I only want to do this once, and rip my dvds in the best quality possible,(and maybe subtitles into srt files)
I have moderate experience using handbrake.
What are noob mistakes to avoid?
I want mkv or mp4 files preferably. No ISO files.
idc about dvd menus or extra features.
I am mainly ripping a tv series DVD.

>I have moderate experience using handbrake.
Can't help you there I use makemkv, or bitcopy.
>What are noob mistakes to avoid?
Avoid using handbrake.
>>61149173
These are 480p DVDs?
Pay for a VPN and download Blu-ray rips.
int a=2, b=4;
if(Boolean.toString(a==b).equals("true"))
{
System.out.println("it worked");
}
>prints nothing to console
>change b to 2
>prints to console "it worked"
fuck me, why the hell does this work
why wouldn't it?
2==2 yields the Boolean true
Boolean.toString(true) yields "true"
"true" equals "true" yields true
if(true) will execute the block.
right?
can you explain what you think should happen?

java is the most unforgiving strict language out there, but it accepts this.
really now.
not to mention the -10 which is also accepted.
Opinions on the One Plus 5?

iPhone that isn't a iPhone.
What does the iPhone mean to you? Well this phone is the same thing.

Anyone else use ZorinOS? I've fucked around with it for a couple of days and finally got everything working (with a shit ton of workarounds).
I really like how the Window Manager and File Manager work together so I can actually copy and paste files back and forth without using a terminal... Why can't other Ubuntu based distros do this?
that's a really nice Gnome desktop, kde btfo
>>61149048
KDE looks dated compared to this
>>61149063
But it uses less memory. So if you have the resources for bloat, go for it.
What did coding knowledge did he have to learn before he created silkroad?
why don't you send him a letter and ask him?
A lot. You need to have a heavy background in both cryptography and general security in relation to web development to do what he did
>>61148960
how do i go about this
Can thermal generators be built anywhere to power anything?
Im really trying to figure out how practical they are for a specific purpose.
I used to design bunkers and survival shelters and the like on paper, just for fun. I used to handle the power by tossing a big circle on the paper and labeling it as a thermal generator, imagining it goes way deep down into the earth.
I'm making some plans right now, as I was inspired by the movie "The Island" with a huge underground facility.
The one I'm designing is similar in population, perhaps thousands. For the preservation of humanity or something. If financial resources weren't a concern, could thermal generators power such a complex entirly, preventing the need for returning to the surface?

As far as I know:
Geothermal sources are not permanent when they are exploited..
Not easily available (no return of the investment) unless near volcanic sources...
>>61148912
when engineering manages to transform heat directly into eletrical power, that will the greatest energetic revolution we will have.

Peltier cells.
Next.
My old phone was stolen, I need a cheap replacement, I'm between the Moto G4 Play, Moto E4 and Nextbin Robin, which will be the better choice?
Give it back, Jamal.
>>61148673
Of those? E4 all day. Giant battery and a 625 means two day battery life and decent performance
The g4 play also has an all day battery and decent performance. You can't go worng with either of those.
How do we fix Skype?
Why is there a Japanese
Buy it off microsoft
>>61148581
By not using it?
>use KDE
>have to spend 1 hour tweaking settings for it to look 'good' and function right
>lots of crashes because my clicks are too fast
>lots of crashes randomly
>lots of useless applications installed
>bad locale settings
>logout, restart, reboot icons don't make sense
>too many options, not enough good defaults, can't disable useless shit
WHY, WHY, WHY can I not remove Konquerer without breaking everything???? WHY DOES A DESKTOP ENVIRONMENT PROJECT EVEN HAVE ITS OWN WEB BROWSER. THERE IS ALREADY FIREFOX AND CHROMIUM!!!!
KDE just can't compete with GNOME this year. Maybe next year things will be better for KDE.
All that and you still a have an ugly huge as fuck clock on the toolbar.
>>61148440
What version KDE Plasma were you using, and on top of what distro?
Just curious, you're right, it is shit.
>>61148440
Linux is only free if your time is worthless.
.
left is the only sane choice
>>61148322
I do the middle
Is that bad?
Instead of discussing meaningless stuff, why not spend your time writing actual code?
Would you believe me if I told you that Apple remotely sends commands to older versions of their hardware, be it phones laptops, etc that cause them to overheat more quickly and more often in order to break them and force you to buy the latest version?
Would you believe me if I told you that thermal paste wares over time
>>61148279
They don't do it remotely
They have the release of all future iphones already planned and programmed into each phone and everytime a new one comes out it will make the phone more and more shit
