Have you thought about giving up on all that technology bullshit and start living the life? Look at that river. Isn't it beautiful? Wouldn't you prefer spending your weekends at that, instead of rising your distro and shitposting on 4chan?
>>61239435
you have no idea how much I think this
but, I need the computer in order to 'live' i.e. make progress in the world
so I can't just flush them out
JUST
>>61239435
i live in a third world shithole. 4chan is my escape from reality.

This, also either your display has broken or it's not connected correctly to the motherboard
Guessing from the acer logo, glossy finish and the fact that it has a dedicated GPU by the nvidia sticker probably being "cheapest shit possible" made it do this.
>be me
>first year of high school, ca. 2013 (that’s 14-15 years old for you eurofags)
>the last summer i spent messing with linux and gnu
>followed the gnu philosophy and only used libre software (this will be important later)
>my first period class was some computer thing called scientific visualization
>the teacher straight-out said he wasn't following the curriculum because it didn't teach anything practical
>whatever.txt
>i think this guy actually just wasn't familiar with what he had to teach
>we're on windows computers because this is america
>i guess i don't mind too much, so long as i don't develop a dependence on the os
>the first unit is on web design / html
>i'd been doing web design from when i was younger
>easy-a.html
>the teacher is shuffling through a manual on web 2.0 which must have been a decade old
>“there are 256 colors you can use on your webpage. you'll have to refer to the back of this book to figure out the color codes.”
>wtf.png
>we write the code in notepad
>at least we're not just using dreamweaver
>he tells us to use internet explorer to view our webpages
>everyone's entire pages are just headings and <font>, <b>, and <i>, tags
>the hardest thing we ever did was tables. no css or anything like that
>unit test
>it's on designing posters, he tells us
>he gives us all the questions and answers on a “practice test” the day before the real, identical test
>that was our only grade for each unit, for the entire semester of this class
>the teacher justified it by saying that he didn't want to grade people's artistic abilities
>i'm actually shit at memorizing things, but the questions weren't hard if you knew the basics of stuff like graphic design
>e.g., “what are the four primary colors used by printers?”
>ace it
>(so does everyone else)
>act 2
>start on unit 2
>i'm pretty pissed about how the class is being run and taught
>teacher reveals next unit: using microsoft powerpoint
>ABSOLUTELYPROPRIETARY.jpg
>freaking out internally
>looking back, i have no idea why i was so angry
>raise my hand
>can’t make a coherent sentence
>“but-- tha-- PROPRIETARY SOFTWARE!!!”
>teacher has no idea wtf i mean
>i wouldn’t either
>“is there a problem, anon?”
>yes
>“powerpoint--can’t...use--free software”
>“we’re only using powerpoint in class; you don’t need to pay for it yourself”
>trying to be more coherent
>try to explain the gnu philosophy in one sentence
>“closed-source software such as powerpoint forces users to give up their freedom”
>“well, anon, if you’re going to be in this class, you’re going to have to use powerpoint”
>“can i use an alternative?”
>“no, but you can head to the principle’s office”
>i up and leave
>i felt proud of myself for standing up for my beliefs
>i guess i still am proud for it, but i wouldn’t have made such a scene and been to drastic
>during my walk across the campus, i realize i’m probably in trouble
>sit in the principle’s office for the remainder of the class period as though i was waiting for someone
>the next day in class i take my seat and do nothing
>he either didn’t notice or pretended not to
>i ace all the “tests”
>no one ever talks to me
>get an “a” in the class for doing next to nothing
>on the last day of class, people were just playing on the computers
>teacher talks to me because he thought i looked lonely
>i had no respect for him
>he asks me about the whole powerpoint fiasco
>i explain the gnu philosophy accurately this time
>he disagrees
>i don’t really care what he thinks
>he doesn’t seem like the kind of guy to actually be familiar with computers
>his classes were just for lazy kids to waste time in school
>i only realized that hardly anyone actually did anything in the class after the fact
the rest of this story is just fluff, but here it is
>act 3
>a year passes
>first semester of sophomore year (15-16 years old)
>meet your teachers event about a week before the actual start of the year
>notice i have another class of this teacher’s
>go to his classroom
>he doesn’t remember me
>okay.ttf
>i have an opportunity to have another class of doing dog shit
>i am so conflicted, though, because of how opposed i am to this shitty teacher
>first day of school, get my schedule changed before i have his class
>take some history class instead
>on the holocaust
>it’s run by some proto-sjw teacher
>she’s a republican
>every other aspect of her political ideals screams left
>/leftypol/ minus communism
>she’s way too open about her political views
>the class was on the holocaust, and many other things the teacher did were terrible, but that’s not important
>she made a bunch of “creative” projects
>you know what happens when teachers give creative projects
>we had to use proprietary software for half the projects
>fortunately, she gave alternatives, which i took
>if i had not given up game art design, i would be using blender
>several of my friends were in that class
>feelsbadman.jpg
>i ended up getting a “c” in the holocaust class
>the teacher hated me because i didn’t share her opinions
>i could share more about that class, but that’s off topic
>if it weren’t for richard stallman, i could have gotten an easy “a” and hung out with my friends for half the school year
>eventually dropped all my friends because they were immature and kept spreading the usage of proprietary software (which is unethical, per the fsf)
>everyone in school hated me because they though i was stuck-up and just weird
>i still support the the gnu philosophy to this day
fin
You gotta be kidding if you think I'm going to read all that shit
How can you seriously believe that the GNU operating system is open source after seeing this picture?
I admit it's a hell of a lot better than windows, but come on.

Your joke isn't funny. Sorry.
What service providers should I avoid like the plague?
Service providers? You mean ISPs?
You have like one or two controlling your local area at any given time. You don't have a choice. It's them or nothing.
>>61239077
Fuck, forgot the topic name. was asking for Cellphone service providers.
What's the most secure linux distro in terms of privacy ?Tails ?

Come on now.

Well, retarded mods let Chink Shopping threads go, and a bunch of other consumer-related shit, so I guess the term "Technology" is super broad at this point.
Is anyone else having a slow as fuck youtube speed with a fast connection?. I'm not sure if this is a me problem or something more widespread. Is time warner cable(spectrum) throttling youtube?
>>61238628
you're mom
I had a provider which throttled YouTube once which is a fucking scam since it's one of the few websites that can actually make use of a high bandwidth.
>>61238628
work good for me.
I'm not a burger tho, must be a bottleneck somewhere
I was looking into getting the Tile but they don't offer the alert feature that let's you know if you've left something behind.
Any thoughts or comments about different brands?
I'd use one if all the offerings didn't seem shit. IIRC there are only few brands which offer replaceable batteries in the first place. I can't believe people even buy the popular brands in light of that criterion alone.
>>61238610
That's exactly why I made this post. I was leaning heavily toward Trackr because of the replaceable battery but reviews seem to say they don't work well.
I can never understand how people loose their shit so frequently it pays off to get this.
Is there a gaming mouse up to $30 that's not shit?
>is poor
>wastes time on gayming
I will never understand retards like you.

All I want is a lightweight, wearable, noninvasive display that shows the contents of my desktop monitor, so I can work away from my desk in desktop applications.
>>61238391
Tape a tablet to your arm and use remote desktop software, dumbfuck.
>>61238391
I think I've seen a few monocular lately intended for motorcyclists that could fit your need. Otherwise wearble computer stuff is usually considered military grade for some reason and aren't avaible for the general public.
>>61238626
No, I mean something like glasses, but not some fancy google glasses device, just for display projection from another device. I just want to be able to read/write while on a walk.
Looking for a MS-DOS alternative for an old DOS computer.
>pic related
>>61238367
Sure, it's fine. I run it on a VM, and it seems to do most or all the things MS-DOS did. That said, I hope you have hardware that'll work with it, and the floppies you need, 'cause I had an old PC that looked like that, and it had no hard drive. Everything had to be done via floppies. For that matter, what would you be using it for? Not like DOS did much, at least by today's standards.
well.
>>61238569
I have a usb floppy drive for the pc and a few empty floppy disks. I do have a hard drive for that machine. I might be using DOS to just fuck around and mess with it.

Get an internship, do some work/experiment outside of class with tech that interests you.
Don't be our current interns that don't even know what load balancing is and take 3 months to do what only takes 2-3 weeks.
intern from day one even if you know shit-all, you'r expected to know shit all
have side projects, a varied portfolio might be good to show off

The controller works normally but can't get the ABXY lights to turn off when connected by USB.
the lights blink every 2 seconds while it's charging, and stay solid when fully charged. How do I get them to turn off completely?
The blinking lights are extremely distracting, it can be turned off just fine when connected wirelessly, although I prefer not to because of input lag.
I know a few people in /g/ use this controller.
Got no responses from /wsr/
This isn't your tech supppet. Call customer service.
