Firstoff, it depends on what you mean by contact. If you are determined to see them at all costs, i would recommend a sweat-lodge type thing the American Indians used to do. I really liked "I am the Pretty Thing that Lives in the House."

I chase tornados as a hobby. Never seen one in person, but have had one less than half a mile behind me and couldn't see it due to rain. I haven't been on a lot of storm chases, (at uni and no car) but I can tell you, being by a tornado warned storm is one of the most exhilarating things you will ever feel.
