So are all hostels filled with annoying stoners and dudebros? I am considering booking one for my next trip because it is so cheap, but I absolutely despise that crowd. I don't travel to make friends (Unless I meet someone spontaneously ofcourse) or 2 smoke weed erryday xDD

Depends on the hostel and locale.

If you're going to stay at some place called The Australian Bunker on Bangkok's Khao San Road, I'd imagine the crowd there wouldn't sit well with what you're looking for. Different hotels have different vibes, as do the neighborhoods in which they're located. Consequently, you'll come across some places which are rated or regarded as "party hostels," and others which are known for having a more chilled out, family-friendly atmosphere.

Wow you are a humongous faggot.

I suggest getting the most expensive hotel you can as that would eliminate all the undesirables.

Then go to the roof, tie a rope to a pipe and your neck, and jump off.

Hey all, I would like to go trekking for three days in spain. I'm in barcelona now with a backpack tent etc. I have no idea where to find information on this stuff. I need to be able to get there from barcelona by train or bus. Preferably something nice by the water, mountains, or both. Thanks.

The Pyrenees is your obvious choice. Get a bus to Huesca and then to Jaca and go from there

Sorry to be so naive but where do I get a map, do I need to register somewhere to hike in Europe or do people just wander around and sleep anywhere? At least in the US it's a big deal that is.

Don't take everything I say as an equivalent to the laws in thr contry, but merely as what has been passed on to me by word of mouth.

In old days Spain, there were a lot of shepherds walking cross contry with their sheep, so they'd be in north in summertime and south in wintertime for their herds to feed. They were nomads travelling with up to several hundreds of sheep and goats. Because of this there was a king sometime in the last millenium who made it a law for these roads to be open for those shepherds. which means that there to this days are pathways, some up to 72 meters in width where these shepherds(or anyone) can walk freely with their animals grazing on anything that grows there.

So you're pretty free to hike on those trails.

Other than that, lightig a fire is a serious hazard, if you're planning to cook your meals over fire you should really consider well where you set up a campfire. First it should.be out of sight (light at night, smoke at day) plus you don't want to start a forest fire, even when it has just rained you have a lot of debris and undergrowth that will catch fire from anything! So before even considering to make a fire, better make sure that you completely strip the area you're making it on, right down to bare soil or rock. Clear area up to 2 meters in radius. You don't want to get caught in a forest fire anon.

Also if you're just out in the boonies hiking, I'd say popping up a tent shouldn't be a big problem, if you camp at a spot where people can't see you unless they're very close you might be alright for all three nights. If youbdo get caught then don't try to argue, if you're not a spanish speaker just get a move on, take down camp and look like you're complying.

Disney World is always better than Disneyland
>>
>>1118299
Could have been a matter of opinion before they put star wars stuff out East, bit definitely World. It was built due to not being able to expand on Land
>>
If you think about comparing your favorite band to Disney Parks, Disney World is their entire discography, while Disneyland is their Greatest Hits.

Most rides at Disney Parks are copies of ones in their other parks and although Disneyland has fewer rides and less space to work with, they tend to be the best rides and are closer together (i.e.: you don't have to walk as much in the two Disneyland Parks as much as in the four Disney World Parks).

In terms of hotels and having the sense that you are staying on an actual resort, Disney World has many more hotels on site. Disney World is also choked significantly less by urban sprawl, unlike Disneyland which is completely surrounded by cheap motels where everyone speaks Spanish or some other language that isn't English.

tl;dr:
The best experience inside the theme parks only: Disneyland wins
The best experience considering the entire resort property as a whole (theme parks + hotels + other activities): Disney World wins

Longest one was Springfield, MA, to Oakland, CA. Took about three days. In a chair, in coach, no shower. I enjoyed it, but I'm not young and poor anymore, so would get a sleeper if I were to do it again.

Other than that, no super-long trips. Did a lot of overnight or all-day trains in Thailand (Bangkok--Chiang Mai many times, Bangkok--Surat Thani twice, Bangkok--Butterworth (Penang) once. But none of these were more than approx. 1 day.

What's this? No eternal San Francisco travel thread? Guess I'll make one.

Okay, so I'll be in San Francisco for 5 days in June. I know it's going to be an amazing place to visit (I was there 9 years ago as a teen, and my fondest travel memories are from there). I haven't really begun building my day to day itinerary though. All I know is that we will be doing a ton of walking, we'll take a day trips to Yosemite (guided tour. Worth it?) and Napa Valley, and we'll be doing some dining at the best restaurants.

So from people who frequest SF/live there, can you point me out to some places that I absolutely can not miss (preferably relating to food)? Whether these places are already in a travel guide or not, doesn't matter. Thanks!

Sutro Bath Ruins. It used to be a large indoor swimming pool until it burned down. Pretty cool at night.
Bernal Heights. Good view of the city.
The wave organ
555 Mission Street Sculpture Garden
Alcatraz. I hear the night tour is pretty cool. Book it fast though.
Marin headlands, but not Muir Woods
Walk up or down California Street
Burma Superstar. Get the samusa soup!
Marnee Thai
The Little Chihuahua. I'm sure other people have better taquerias in mind but it's pretty good.
Blue Bottle for coffee
You might see wild parrots in the city. I used to see them often when I lived in Lower Haight.
Stay away from Civic Center. It's gross. UN Plaza is fucking gross.

Hi /trv/, first time on this board!

I have a question, I've been lurking around the China and Japan generals and I have been thinking of visiting said countries for awhile now.

The question is, would it be possible to take a 2-3 week trip with around $4,000 next summer to visit parts of both countries? I would of course need to find places to stay in Japan and I have family in Shanghai in which I could stay with.

In case if it may not seem possible to do, what are the best ways of traveling and getting to know each country under this kind of budget (ie, if I cant visit both, what is the best I can do with that money visiting just one of them).

I don't know anything about Japan, but this early, you should be able to find airfare to Shanghai from around $800. Check vayama.

If you have someone to stay for free in SH that will be immensely helpful. It's the most expensive city in China but still relatively cheap. Are you just staying in Shanghai this time or are you going to travel outside the city?
>>
>>1121001
That all depends if I end up making it a Japan/China trip or splitting them up. If I was to do it together I'd probably stay for acouple of days and see if there is anything outside of the city that I can visit while still being somewhat closeby that I can go visit, though I'm not to well read up on what to do in China. Hoping to probably see the nightlife in Shanghai but it would be difficult due to the fact that I am stay with a family and I don't want to distrust them late at night lol.

This plan is still kinda in the early stages but I'm really hoping there is someway to pull this off.
>>
Also would it be better to travel around these area alone (besides Shanghai since I would have family there) or should I find some kind of tour group?

Hey /trv/! I have my eyes set on Iran. It seems like such an interesting and beautiful country to me, away from tourism and out of the spotlight. I know it's not really a dangerous country in any way, but here's the thing: I'm gay. And my boyfriend is Persian. It would be really awesome to travel to Iran with him for a while, but I have no idea what security is like for a visiting gay couple there. Sure we can act platonic in public, but how safe is it to be romantic behind closed doors? Like would people get suspicious if we stayed in the same hotel room and so on? What exactly would happen if people found out?

He hasn't been to Iran since he was a kid so I don't think he knows much about the situation. Thanks.

just don't tell everyone that ur gay, hell u can even hold hands when u go outside and they wont be suspicious and don't worry u two can stay in the same room and no one would care, if ordinary people find how some how they don't really give two shits but worst case scenario u guys would get deported as you guys aren't residents of iran.

Hey guys, what is the best way to go from Krakow to Budapest?night train?train during the day?blablacar?

There's an EuroNight train Silesia which supposedly has direct cars Krakow-Budapest. It leaves Krakow at 21:58 and comes to Budapest at 8:37. But be sure to check more info as some cars go to Vienna.
But I guess Polskibus will be much cheaper and it's also faster (only 7 hours) as the road is more direct. One leaves Krakow, Bosacka at 13:05 the other one at 22:50
>>
I used to make that journey a few times a month and I usually took the Eurobus which leaves Krakow at night and arrives in Budapest at around 6-7am. It usually cost me around 14 euros.

Going to Lisbon for 2 weeks next month. Any advice for what to do over there e.g things to see, place to go, good places to eat and drink at etc. Also is there any place near Lisbon which would be worth going to? Thanks.

I haven't been in the country for the past year but last time I checked it was like 24€. You can probably get a better price and faster tavel taking a Ryanair flight from Lisbon to Porto honestly.
