Have you ever had THAT moment during your travels with others, with friends? The moment someone suddenly brings up something he shouldn't or becomes annoyed about something and you end up despising eachother? Or have you ever just become bored? No matter how good your friendship is, it will happen.

All sounds very immature, or maybe even a personality disorder. I don't know about everyone, but I don't dismiss friends as people I'm done with, for one infraction.

Absolutely it can suck to travel with someone who doesn't have the same travel smarts, travel budget and emotional maturity. Gotta sniff out the possible issues before the trip and law down some boundaries with the "ground rules" of what you will or won't be doing or else, and the or else can just be some tag team kind of sightseeing where you sleep in (or not) and do some separate activities during the day or evening, and meet up again for something you can both tolerate, like a meal. Or maybe it's meals that bug you. Sightsee together, and then go blow your budget at the michelin while the plebs eat food they cook. Laying out the ground rules in advance sometimes helps you prevent that whiney person who speaks without thinking to actually think about how their next move is breaking the rule and will result in drama. Some kids are used to being self-centered and selfish in family travel. Hope that helps you.

I travel with a best friend from time to time who views the hotel room itself as the vacation, and it's damn hard to explore the pool, the lobby, the town, until it's nearly checkout time. ALWAYS. Walk around at night? Nope, let's watch a movie in the room with all the snacks we bought. Know what I do? I let it go. This is how this person will always travel. Oh well. I'll be returning again and again to anywhere us two go. So, doesn't matter much.
I travel sometimes with a fearful friend who doesn't understand personal space and clings to your elbow while shopping to the annoyance level. My Ex did the same thing, grr. They are just biding their time while you do your thing, not even enjoying themselves. Instead of being bothered, I simply shrug it off and I'll be doing what I want when I want, and they have to live with it. Be nice about it.

I think I know what you mean, OP.

Traveled with a friend who was great fun. When he started drinking, he became an asshole though. He was manipulative, he'd put me down, he'd try to fuck with me.

Realized he wasn't a good person

i'll make a detailed one later because i'd like to read everyone elses but i'd like to go through europe and hit unvisited hidden gems in places like switzerland, germany, porutgal, italy, the netherlands, belgium, and spain

>hike through grizzly country for a week carrying 80+ lbs
>spend 1-2 weeks getting rained on waiting for 2 days clear
>climb pic related
>hike a week through grizzly country out, carrying 60 lbs

except replace "drive" with "fly". so not really much of a road trip i guess...

Hey guys I'm trying to book a 3 night stay in Chicago for my husband's birthday. I already got baseball tickets. Now I'm looking for hotel and other entertainment. Was thinking of a either the Athletic Association Hotel or the Talbot Hotel. I am also considering getting a "mystery" hotel from priceline to save 50 dollars a night. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Also thinking about this comedy show

Anybody have any experience? Thanks.

Whenever I visit a decent sized city, I check for a Hotel Indigo. Chicago has one, and I highly recommend it.

I've never stayed in am Indigo I didn't love.
>>
>Chicago

First, you have to answer these two questions.

1. Are you white?
2. Are you a woman?

If you answered yes to #1, you're going to die. If you answered to #2, you're going to be raped before you die.

Enjoy your trip.

As for OP, what exactly is it that you are interested in? You can start off at the cultural center in the loop (I think it's pretty close to the art institute) and start your trip there with some info.

Hello /trv/, anon here. Recently bought my ticket to Vienna, I'll be going there in mid january for 10 days and I'd like to know how much money I need. I'm planning on staying 4 days in Vienna, 1 in Bratislava and 4 in Budapest. Seeing as I'm 18 most of the museums in Vienna will be free to visit. This will be my fist solo trip

Either way, that's going to be a pricey trip. You'll need thousands.

>"San Francisco" and "cheap" in the same sentence
The cheapest way would be to airbnb in Oakland or San Jose (or any of the other cities/towns/suburbs in the Bay area) and use BART or Caltrain to get into the city.

oakland

first stop on the bart in oakland would be ideal

I am moving to Paraguay and have some questions.
- I speak decent Spanish, but I understand they use the local language Guarani quite a bit. Do most people speak purely Spanish and Guarani? or is it a hefty amalgamation?
- are the cities safe?
- what's the local cuisine like?
10 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
My home is ~3 hours away from there... ppl here usually visit just for a day to buy stuff (super fucking cheap)

-language : you probably won't understand shit, from what they say (I've only gone once)

-safe? : no. It is a very corrupt, mafia etc. I suggest you don't display wealth or your nationality (lie that you're from Chile or smth)

-local cuisine : they have some special food (and dance too). Probably lots of cheese, corn and meat on it...

>>
>>1116504
My mother is paraguayan, and I've been there a couple of times. Don't show you're wealthy or from a western country, or at least don't brag about it. You'll be safe from the Mafia and other gangs if you don't do drugs and if you're on a good level with them.
Language: They speak a mix of Guarani and Spanish, but mostly Spanish. As long as you understand Guarani you'll be fine. Most cities are safe, just stay away from sketchy areas at night.

Traveling to Europe, would like to know where the locals won't hate me.

Have friends in Iceland, they absolutely fucking despise tourists. Similarly in rural Norway, the villages near all the fjords like Flàm, they're really sick of tourists.

They would be a third world country without tourism. I'm pretty sure they like all of the things that tourists bring with them, i.e. money.

Hey guys,

Can I work as an English teacher abroad, without a degree or anything? I think I can speak English pretty well, not my native language though, but I have been speaking English since I was very young. Also I usually got high grades at high school.I am also still pretty young (19). So does anyone have experience with teaching English without experience or a degree whatsoever or do you really need a degree? What countries would be good options? What kind of things will increase my chances? Also can you link some sites where I can apply or that have good information. So far I searched a bit but I can only find things where you need a basic degree and experience.

Cheers

Only country where I have personally known people without degrees to teach was Cambodia.

Not sure about non-native speakers, though. That's hard anywhere. Maybe China?

Take a look at Dave's ESL cafe; all listings there will expect native speakers with degrees, but you might reach out anyway.
>>
In Vietnam i met alot of people teaching amd amongst them, non-native speakers aswell, amd when I asked around, the general vibe was that it doesen't matter, as long as you're fluent in it. I met a german who has been there for a few years already, and his english wasn't even that good. This was autumn 2015.

>>1116447
This was also my experience. Which I found hilarious
"Oh, yeah, I don't need any teaching qualification to teach English, I've spoken it all my life!"

Sup /trv/

Long time shitposter, second time OP here.

Going to Krakow for a few days with a buddy while I'm in Europe this summer. We chose the city solely because it fitted our schedules. I didn't know anything about the place - just figured that you can't go wrong with European cities. Didn't even know that's where Auschwitz is... so I guess I'm going to Auschwitz.

Anyway, would appreciate tips from you guys for Krakow. Specifically:

Not interested in renting a car - what's the best way to visit Auschwitz from a central Krakow hotel?

How about the other tourist shit? What's pricey-but-worth-it, pricey-but-not-worth-it, hidden-gem, etc...? All info appreciated.

And we will be drinking in the evenings. 2 guys. No Polish skills. Never been to Poland. Know nobody there. Where's cool?

Is there a decent public transport method we should use or should we just get a taxi?

Polish background and been to Kraków.

Any decent hotel can set you up with bussing to auschwitz (unfortunely I don't remeber if public bidding already exists).

There's definitely a free walking tour available that'll take you to all the sites so you can have an idea of what to visit.

There's a da Vinci painting in the castle (not the one in your photo, which is a bazaar).

You can just pick one trip from these two:
1. 2 days in Vienna, 6 days around the Czech Republic, 2 days in Prague.
-or-
2. 7 days around the Czech Republic and 3 days in Prague.

What do you choose and why?

I worry that two days for Prague and two days for Wien aren't enough.

>>
what do you mean by around the czech republic?
are you going to try and hit up all the major cities or what?
I'd personally just add more days to Prague and Vienna

So I'm visiting San Francisco on Tuesday, I land in the morning and leave the followingTuesday at night.

I've never been to SF and want to get the most out of my trip. I've already got two days put aside to visiting Redwood Forest and Santa Cruz(a friend is taking me so I don't have to worry about transportation).

But what else should I see in San Francisco, obviously I'm willing to do some of the major touristy stuff because you have to see some of those things. But I really want to see some underrated or overlooked things, hidden gems if you will.

Here is what I have so far, pretty standard.
Lombard Street
Coit Tower
Fishermans Warf
Chinatown
Japanese Tea Garden
Chez Panisse

I'll be staying in Berkley and my friends tell me it's pretty close to the city. Coming from NYC I don't expect to be too overwhelmed by their metro system.

have fun with the commute.

fisherman's wharf is dumb. alcatraz is the shit, get your tickets now. marin headland batteries north of the golden gate are awesome if you're into history or the military. bring a flashlight to do some creeping.

where are you going to see the redwoods? big basin s.p. has the best old growth, but henry cowell s.p. has a train that runs through the forest to the beach.

if you can rustle up the wheel for it (or are willing to slog through yarts) yosemite is worth the drive.
