Hey guys,
I'll be visiting the UK later this week.
I'll start with a week in London, then a week in Edinburgh and then 5 days in Bristol before heading to London for another night to catch a cheap flight back home.
I have some ideas about what to do and see when I'm there.
I really like culture and history, I'm a big fan of museums and historical sights.
I also like the culinary aspects of traveling and always enjoy eating and drinking native delicacies when I'm exploring new places.
I like going to a pub or bar but I'm not much of a club kind of guy.
Since I'm sort of on a budget I'd rather go see and explore free/cheap sights than for example spend 30 quid on the London eye. Going to real restaurants will for the most part be outside of my planned budget as well.
I'm not afraid of spending money generally though, I just want to get the most for the least (adequate) amount.
Do you guys have any recommendations for things to see in London, Edinburgh or Bristol that aren't Madame-Tussaud's-tier expensive and offensively touristy?
Any specialties or attractions I, as a dumb tourist, could overlook, you hold in high regards?
It'll be my first time traveling solo without any friends or family but I think I can manage chatting up some people at the hostel or maybe a pub crawl.

Bristolian here. If you're on a budget theres loads to do for free round here, especially if local history is your thing. Couple of free things easy enough to get to from the center:
Bristol museum and gallery
Cabot tower
M-Shed
Clifton suspension bridge
Avon Gorge
Cheddar gorge hike
The street art bonanza around Stokes croft
Check out our historic harbour

If you're looking to spend a bit of cash check out:
SS great Britain
@Bristol
Clifton observatory and caves
Wooky Hole in Cheddar

You say you like local delicacies? Best i can reccomed is local cider, its dry as a nuns chuff and you've got to chew the last 1/4 of the pint. Get some of that at "The Apple" its a pub on a boat and it sells a cider so rough you can only buy it by the half pint.

When you in the city anyways?
>>

Hey, thanks for all the suggestions.
I'm glad to get some insight on the one destination of my trip I have the least amount of ideas about what to do!
Where I'm from some nice cider is very appreciated so dry cider is something I can get behind very well, sounds great.
I'll be in Bristol from the 20th to the 24th of may. Why, would you be up for a cheeky pint or some cider with me?
I'd be very glad to know some actual Brits when I get there.

If you're on a budget, why are you flying internally?

Which part of your budget goes to travel?
How much do you usually spend?

Unfortunately I've not a statistic yet.
I can though tell you that I spent 750€ for a 15 days trip with bycicle (included transportation with boat and few train tickets) in Italy in the high season. So I'm frugal enough but I would like to erode a little more my expenditure (i.e. more free-camping, couch surfing (et simila) and cook my food once in a while).

I don't typically budget for travel. I plan a trip, estimate costs and try to save up for that trip. I'll say that I don't usually spend much in a typical year. I do have some international travels that might be costly. In the past couple of years, I've probably spent 3000 or so (4000?) on flights, hotels, car rentals. This includes visiting friends, family, weddings, and vacation. On average, I fly once a year somewhere usually domestic for business or personal matters. I don't expect to spend more than 700 dollars for that trip after everything.

Not sure if this is travel-related but here goes.

I am a Canadian citizen, white, Germanic stock. I moved back home to Canada over a year ago with my Swedish girlfriend, and we got married the first week we were here. We submitted all the paperwork shortly thereafter. It has been over 1 year and we have not received anything from the government, not even work papers or a letter of confirmation.

Has any European here ever attempted moving to Canada for love? any advice you guys could give me?

(don't worry she is a native Swede, blonde hair blue eyes, I am not importing any third world filth)

Did you check online for your application status?

Crazy coincidence cause I came to this thread right after I read an article posted in the Toronto Fb group for sw Swedes: https://www.thestar.com/news/immigration/2016/05/13/frustration-abounds-for-immigration-call-centre-users.html

I'm Canadian too and likely not gonna end up with a North American. Almost all of my friends who have married to get their partner in has had a hard time. Luckily Sweden is most first world than Canada so that should help your chances.

Why not move to Sweden? I did, for a bit.

Quebec City is beautiful, in the old spots. There are times when it feels like you've been transported to Normandy. If it weren't for all the horrible tourists it would be easy to forget you're in North America.

Hey there, I'm interested in going to a South American country.

Right now I'm looking at Peru which someone said was pretty cool, but does anyone have any suggestions of a South American country to meet qt 3.14 latina girls as well as being diverse and culturally rich? I've wanted to visit a SA country for a while, and it will be good for my depression to get away from New Zealand.

Indeed, it's not so bad as everyone thinks.

AmsterdamFag here

In June i'll be 21 and i want to visit the US.

I could use some advice, my friends would first come along, But theyre broke/no time/whatever. Otherwise i would go to Orlando and visit Theme parks, but going alone to Theme Parks is kinda weirdish if you know what i mean.
Side info: I don't mind walking for 4/5 hours straight. I can easily do that.

I deff want to visit New York, and do the touristy stuff and/or just get lost and find my way back to my hotel.
I also want to visit some highscale rooftop bar, you know. Those bars that charge you 20 bucks for a drink and have a dresscode.
I know New York is a city i can entertain myself in alone.

After that i want to go to Vegas, gamble away my money and play poker. I also know Vegas is a place i can enjoy myself alone.
Now here comes the big problem. I also want to visit something else.
The plan was to go to Orlando and visit theme parks. But now i can't decide, what would you recommend?
Los Angeles? Miami? Something else?

Also, i onced travel solo before. But that was to London and Manchester and i stayed in Hostels. This time i will be staying in Hotels, don't know why actually. I think its kinda weird to want to go to rooftop bars but still check in a Hostel.
Also i'm bringing with me my Notebook and quite some cash and i'm planning to purchase a DSLR in NYC, so i think a Hotel would be safer for me and my belongings

I would ask you why you would really want to go to Vegas, especially because it's very out of the way. But if you are going to be headed in that direction, San Francisco would be your best option. You can also take a train from NYC to Boston, Philly, and/or D.C. which are all worth a visit sometime or another as well.

Are you mainly interested in just taking some photography when you're in NYC (judging from the fact you plan on buying a DSLR when you get there)? If so make sure you check out other places other than Midtown or the financial district. Lots of cool historical places in Manhattan like Greenwich or SoHo or even the east village and of course Brooklyn. Look for a list of land marked buildings (pro-tip: there's a lot) in NYC to photograph, some really cool and great looking architecture in the city, NYC has a lot of great unique and various European styles of architecture despite it being a relatively young city. Also how much money you plan on having for this trip? Judging from your post, you're gonna need a lot of fucking money m8.
>>
>>1118471

desu i'm not into photography. Just want to take some pictures while i'm there. I could also sell the camera back in NL for profit, since the same model new here costs 750 instead of 400. So i can easily sell it for 650/675.

Vegas, same thing as NY. Have seen it everywhere, heard of it everywhere and actually like casinos.

I just did some calculating. I think a good amount would be 2-3k for Ticket, hotel and car.

KLM non-stop, 1050-1200.
NYC Hotel (expensive as fuck) around 1k
Vegas optional around 500

Maybe i should stop at these two cities? Keep the rest for later?
>>
>>1118488

Actually, two days ago my plan was to just keep it to NYC only. But since i'm already there, i thought why not visit multiple things.

Before I started travelling, I saved about $3k/month.

I just didn't go out much, once a week to a pub with mates, had dinner and drinks with them for about $40. Rode my bike everywhere.

Didn't go out much otherwise, maybe the odd party once a month but generally didn't spend much for it.

I've been. Beach is incredible (as pictured). It's quite long and most of it fronts onto jungle. You'll probably stay in the town which is quite a ways from the beach. A couple hostels and cheap motels right on the drag or a block off. I'd suggest hitchhiking or renting a bike in town to get back and forth from the beach.

The Tulum archeological site is worth a visit. There's also a pyramid site inland from town (forget name) you can visit by locals bus or tourist bus, but IIRC not really worth it, at least if you're going to go anywhere else (there are better big sites north in Yucatan, in Belize, and in Guatemala).
>>
>>1118163
Really not expensive there. I remember getting a motel room right on the drag for like $15ish, and hostels were similar. Food was cheap and good if you made any effort at all to avoid the most obvious tourist traps.

My wife and I are having trouble deciding where to go on vacation this September. We have the following places in mind. but are open to any others:

1.) Belize
2.) Costa Rica
3.) Curacao
4.) St. Croix
5.) Anguilla
6.) Barbados
7.) Bermuda

We haven't been to any of these places before.

Does anyone have any input? Which of these is preferable for a guy and his wife and two very young children (2 and 10 months)? Again, any other suggestions are welcomed as well. We are trying to keep costs down as much as possible, and we were leaning towards some Caribbean island.

Thanx!

Start checking on how much it cost to stay in the different countries. Gold mines are countries like martinique which is have dutch and half French. Some times the live real cheap and drive 5 miles and eat real cheap. The smaller places that do not get a lot of tourist but have good areas might be a good catch. Also look at Panama, on the Pacific side. Amd even Columbia can have some real specials near the beach.
Belize would be a good pick if you can get out in the keys. Key Cocker would be a good spot if you can set up something ahead of them. Just remember running water might mean you running down to get it
