So I'm building a generic Sci-Fi setting that I plan on running traveler in. I already have some basic ideas for certain parts, (A fairly new Human Federation, A couple alien races, A gigantic multi-racial alien empire that has become so bloated with bureaucratic nonsense that it barely functions, the remnants of a forgotten kingdom where slavers and all kinds of scum and villainy ply their trade etc) But I need more alien races to fill the galaxy.
Any ideas?

Have you tried stealing from space-based video games and media?
>>54110163
Freeks are humans who were subjected to numerous biological and cybernetic experments during a time when the practice was essentially made legal during a large scale war. People who were dead were given cybernetic enhancements and basically brought back to life and experiements to create biological super soldiers and people with special powers resulted in numerous mutations . After the wars the various Freeks splintered from their old homes forming colonies or even forming pirate groups with some striking back violently against the people who experimented on them
>>54110315
Yes and no. The original mass effect had some diversity going for it but not enough in my opinion. Too many of the races were humanoid and similar to humans. What would you suggest for completely alien races from games/media? I'm thinking:
>Elephant squid race (similar to the squid creatures from the future is wild thing I watched years ago)
>Insectoid race of some kind- unsure on their design.
>Saurian race of some kind.
>Avian race of some kind.
I just don't want to do the whole 'fantasy races in space' thing. (At least not the elves, dwarves, etc) maybe some less used fantasy races like Mycenae and shit?

Sounds like it might be cool for some human history / human factions stuff.

So I'm moving to a sorta small town of Napanee, Ontario.
I figure, if there is nothing much to do there, why not start up something? I figure, why not start up a Card / Game shop in town?
But...
Would like to know how exactly to start up such a shop. What are the basic requirements, necessary contacts, and the like.
I know for stock, I should have the basics such as hasbro board games, MtG, YGO, and Pokemon.
So... help a potential store-owner out?
>Scout out the area, does it look like gamers exist?
>Get the money to buy an area and stock up
>Research questions asked in OP on google not bing or 4chan
>...
>Profit?

The most important thing to know is, is there a market? Is there a uni nearby? Is there a Barnes and Noble and can you ask them how well Magic sells? Fuck, does your town even have a GameStop? If so is it busy? You want to know how many 'geeks' are around before you even consider opening a shop.
>>54109449
last I checked the nearest Gamestops are in Bellville and Kingston. for local unis, there's Queens in Kingston and Loyalist in Bellville
also a Chapters/Indigo is in Bellville.
How would you create a dualistic religion between a solar and a lunar deity?
You know how
>>54109323
Both are necessary for life, without one or the other everything would die. The sun provides warmth and light, but the moon allows the world to cool and moves the tides. If the sun ruled alone, the world would dry out and shrivel. If the moon ruled, the whole world would be flooded by a cold dark ocean.
Neither of them are actually particularly interested in humanity, besides expecting reverence for what they do. Life and the earth is actual made from pieces of both that got cut off during the initial battle.
Temples to both are expected in most settlements, but they must be kept at opposite ends of the town or else the gods will become angry. Praying to one god more than the other will also make them angry. There are dawn prayers thanking the sun god and sunset prayers thanking the moon god, and when making them you must look away from the shrine to the respective enemy god.

I think the second to last episode of star trek tng handled it fairly well
Can someone fill me in on how Luck & Logic plays? With the anime advertising it being on air, I wanted to give the TCG a shot.
Anyone? I probably shouldn't have expected anything better from this board.

I don't know shit. I'll bump this just once for you. Maybe someone knows something about the anime or the game. I'll doubt I'd be into it. It looks too otaku-y and skimpy, not something I want to play in public.

Freedom my man. Freedom from this pathetic world.
Hey /tg/ can we get a thread for traps and ingenious ideas for traps?
I'm currently trying to design a wizards tower that's filled with traps for my PC's planning a heist.
They will be doing recon to make sure the wizard is absent at the time, so there will be little combat besides a door Guard or two. The bulk of the content therefore has to be puzzles and traps. For the purposes of the story the wizard is not overly cruel so he designs his traps to fuck with thieves and maybe harm them a little, rather than kill them outright.
Obviously pic related will appear at some point.
Here's one idea I have for a room near the end, close to the objective. Up until this point most rooms will have had only one major trap each. This room will have two. The first will be something fairly obvious, doesn't matter what, so long as the players think they've beaten the room and are ready to raise the exit portcullis via winch. Whoever touches the winch though is trapped within a bubble of magical forcefield, but so far there is no direct danger. Spectral letters will appear inside the bubble asking the trappee "Are friends a blessing or a curse?"
For the others PCs a section of wall next to the winch will flip, revealing a game similar to Hangman. They have to guess a set of words one letter at a time and for every wrong letter the bubble will start spinning around the room. Slow at first but speeding up with every wrong letter. After 3-4 turns the trapee will have to start endurance checks, and then eventually start taking crushing damage from centrifugal (or centripetal?) force, until they die or their friends free them. The answer to the Hangman game is "It Depends" as a reference to the riddle in the bubble, though if anyone can think of a more apt suggestion let me know.
Whaddya think? Any suggestions welcome. I want my traps to be hard, but fun, I don't want my players feeling cheated.
My GM fucked with me once by blocking our path with talking door. No matter what password did we tell it, it wouldn't open.We had to trick the door to say the password to open it

hehe
now thats what I'm talking about

How did you find the password?

stupidly overpowered. take it down to 1 +1/+1 counter per land and ditch indestructible and you might have a printable card.
As a DM, what is the ethical thing to do if the "that guy" of the party has just informed me he desires to betray the party at some point in the game?
The first adventure hasn't even started yet. And I mean I'm not going to stop him, but now with this in mind I could have a friendly NPC with ranks in sense motive call him on his shit.
Should I just try to drop subtle hints to the rest of the table? I feel like outright telling everyone would be a shitty move.
Let him do it, then send his ass to Ravenloft the moment he does something and host a separate campaign from the rest of the party.
Make his solo campaign torturous as fuck and make him regret every life desicion he's ever made. Have every NPC ally he finds betray him at somepoint.
>>54101842
Warn the other PCs or kick him out, your choice. And now, don't wait. Maybe he'll change his character plans for the better.
>I feel like outright telling everyone would be a shitty move.
You know what would be a shitty move? The good character that always helped and made the party great suddenly backstabbing all his friends for no good reason when they're low HP.
>>54101842
>I want to do it at the end
>didn't say how
Nothing to worry about, OP. Let the party do a good deed that doesn't get found out, then have That Guy's character get recognized as the do-gooder, presto- he's betrayed the party. Then they all eat cake as a consequence.
