>Party has to make deal with a devil as part of their quest to save the world
>Cleric makes the sacrifice of putting on the devil's cursed armor so nobody else has to
>Cleric tries to just remove curse himself
>Armor doesn't let him move to make the somatic components

Would I be That DM if I did that? I want there to be a real impact to the whole thing and not have Remove Curse be a get out of jail free card. He could have someone else remove the curse, sure, but he would have to find someone able to do that.

If you have players dumb enough to put on the devil's cursed armor, it doesn't matter. There's no saving them.

This.

I wouldn't even stop their arms from moving. I'd let them cast the spell, then have them hear maniacal laughter in their head.

> Magic is ritualistic, extremely subtle, and requires extensive preparation beforehand, invisible wards, boons, and curses are the extent of most wizard's power. Actually summoning and throwing something as overt as a fireball would require the sacrifice of almost a thousand virgins or a large fortune in gold and silver.

Off topic, The Banner Saga is fantastic and I'd love to play a table top game in its setting.

On topic,
>There are legends of magics far greater than the ones known in the world, creating storms, earthquakes, ect, but those are only mentioned in tales of Gods and Spirits from ancient times, and are followed by long and lengthy descriptions of the ridiculous sacrifices those apparently took. Yugon The Ageless is said to have been brought back to life after the sacrifice of an entire country.

Each race/culture has a standard contract that it specializes in. Humans are typically make Host contracts wherein they allow a demon/angel/spirit to subtly influence their actions in exchange for magical power. Some species instead choose to allow the patron to influence their physical form, take control of them for periods of time, or simply provide them with some variety of tribute in exchange for power.

This is a thread for you to be a massive [adjective] with your 40K army list.As OP it is my job to start things off as the dumbest bastard here...

>2,000pts Tyranid Army.
>Brigade Detachment: 792pts
>3 Malanthrope
>6 Rippers Swarms (3 bases per brood; stock)
>3 Pyrovores
>3 Spore Mine Clusters (3 mines per cluster)
>3 Biovores

>Spearhead Detachment: 1,184pts
>Old One Eye (Warlord Trait: Tenacious Survivor)
>Death Leaper
>9 Screamer-Killers (Scything Talons, Thresher Tail, Bio-Plasma, Adrenal Glands, Toxin Sacs)

>13 Command Points
>1,980pts total

Sadly, this list has done tremendous good against Primaris Marines and Necrons, barely pulled a victory from Astra Militarum. Those Guardsmen Conscript blobs were a little tough to dislodge from objectives.

> Nothing but Cultists, as in, no Chaos Marines, no Daemons, just a horde of Cultists large enough to frequently outnumber Tyranids, as many boots on the battlefield as possible.

You'd be surprised how effective shitty units can be in large enough numbers. I'm thinking of going Ork and using a nigh infinite Grot Swarm.

Amalathian, but leaning Casophilian.

I try to post quality content, be a good person, and I still would rather go to /tg/ than most other boards, but I don't think /tg/ is as great as it used to be anymore. At best I'm aping the old style of humor on occasion - humor that I don't fully understand, being a newfag - and I've come to realize that even if we could bring it back, I don't think anyone would want it now. Times have changed too much. The better days are gone now, all I can do is keep this thing afloat so it won't get worse.

It shoots three shots instead of 2/4 and hits like a heavy bolter.

>Fluff wise are they a contender to replace Storm Bolters?
Probably not. GW will probably think of a reason why all terminators don't just start running around with them standard issue. Probably the same reason Primaris Marines can't fit inside Land Raiders and Space Marines can't fit instead Repulsors: "Stop asking questions, because we said so."

What's the best system for running a Witcher-esque campaign? Not really looking to use the setting itself (although a lot of the folkloric monsters and their biology and behaviour I'll probably borrow), but really want something that'd let the group play professional monster hunters with an emphasis on tracking creatures, identifying what they are and planning ways to trap, lure, kill and generally stack the odds in their favour rather than just relying on powerful abilities and the like.

GM with 22 years experience here. (22 of GMing, more of playing).

Use Dungeon World system, but adapt (Dungeon World calls it "hacking" the system) it to Witcher setting. Just steal the core of the rules, if you're a regular dm/gm I'm sure you know how to do that. You can create your own custom moves and there is a guide in the book how to do that.

www.dungeonworldsrd.com

It's 2d6+appropriate mod, 6- = fail with consequences 7-9 = success but with consequences, 10+ = pure success.

Only players roll.

It is one of THE greatest systems I have ever played. The entire dw book is like a manual on how to be a great gm. The only bad advice I found in there was to split up your players as a 'move' you can make. That's always a terrible idea, unless its VERY temporary, like split them up but in the same room, to solve a trap puzzle.

Other than that, no warnings

The system is built to make amazing narrative with very even pacing and lots of interaction.

Let your players make up as much or as little as you like while still having as much control as GM as you want - but if you're stuck for an idea or etc. you can actually ask a player 'what is here?' or 'why is that?' and have what they say become reality.

I know what I'm saying isn't going to make complete sense without having read the rule book but trust me - its worth your time.

The rule book reads pretty bland and unappealing, that's VERY deceptive. I wasn't impressed by the actual book itself -- until I actually TRIED the system.

Blew me away.

I almost feel like I could never go back to a pass-fail dice system ever again. (Like anything d20, or d100.)

You can find the rules at www.dungeonworldsrd.com.

Good luck!

I wouldn't. Either you're so small and useless that no one notices you seceded (In which case you get steamrolled by the first threat that rolls by), or you're important enough to bring back to heel immediately using the full force of the Imperium, which will force you to make stupid deals and compromises to survive. Secession is a sucker's game.
