Good afternoon mortals. Your wrathful god has returned, care to test your wits in my lands?

For those of you who have not played one of my civ threads, it runs very similar to a normal game with a few key differences

>All starting locations have a horrible twist
>If you poke the bear, you will be eaten - do not be upset by quick deaths

RULES
>Amount of votes depends on # of players - once we are more full I use the first to three votes rule
>Votes without names are not counted to prevent samefags

Testing the waters for interest, if it doesn't get popular I may try again later. For now lets see who shows up, and let the games begin.

Rene and her companions are set to spend the next few days doing what they were doing when we last saw them, throwing their combined might at whatever Vautou might need some skirmishing. Omar certainly gets his work cut out for him keeping Saye alive, and Alfred and Veiz often find themselves right by that healer's side as Rene, Marduk, and Cicero team up. In between missions, Veiz takes to interestedly studying the Tower of Longevity's libraries on dark magic, though she has no intent of breaking it out in battle until she's "more than ready," whatever that means.

None of them are going to show up in the next two threads anyway, so what's it matter?

Dyrus, as mentioned before, is sailing along his merry way to the island fortress of the elusive pirate captain Marlo, being warned by both grandfather Darren and newcomer Doran that he should be prepared for one hell of a welcoming party. He's a bit busy focusing on practicing singing, though.

Samson, meanwhile, slogs alongside his companions, both from Holmstead and lent to him by Neir, approaching the Noban-Holmstead border with increasing rapidity. He and his companions cannot go a moment without an earful from his mother, Marion, on fighting off the forces of the Gerxel, even if they're simply supposed to be undercover as simple travelers returning home now that the battle has ended (an idea of Fabrice's).

You shake your head at Hiss’ offer. Being beside her in the middle of all this is strange. When you first arrived you called this scene a hellscape and you’re still right but with Hiss it’s different. Men and women are still fighting and dying and blood and fire still reign supreme but Hiss sits through all of it as if it wasn’t there. She can’t be hurt or barely even touched by anything here and so the desperate struggle and deaths of many become nothing more than backdrop.

“No thanks,” you say as you turn down her offer. “Unlike you, killing doesn’t make me happy. I need to find Hom.”

Hiss rolls her eyes.
“It’s not the kill-you know what? Whatever. I need to find whoever’s in charge here. And how are you planning on finding him in the first place?”

In a distant system there is a faint flash of Void warped light as an Eyegore emerges. The dome of protective bone slides back from its thick lens of glass protecting the pulsating collection of eyes and sensory organs to gaze out into the new system. Drones split from the satellite with small bursts from their thrusters, setting themselves up through the system over several hours all while the Eyegore watched from beyond the system.

A yellow sun illuminates a collection of five planets and a thick asteroid belt. Gazing towards the worlds the Eyegore is drawn to the presence of an Armatocere fleet in orbit over one of the worlds, thick clouds partially obscuring a world with plentiful land and deep oceans. A massive tree, nearly as large as a space station itself, grows on the airless moon, branches broken and scorched but alive as ships docked with it, likely refueling or repairing. Ships drifted past as if waiting their turn, bark hulls scorched or rotting from necrotic blasts.

In the orbit of the ice world furthest out in the system a small skirmish is fought between Armatocere fighters that looked like barbed seed-pods and UON fighters and gunships. Beams of light both thermal and necrotic slice into each others hulls, the Armatocere destroying many of the small craft but they were being torn apart by the necrotic weaponry. A volley of thorn-like missiles strike in the midst of the UON fighters then detonate with burning shrapnel that rips through the craft revealing that many of them were unmanned robotic fighters as their mechanical entrails glittered in the starlight.

The system was at war but to the relief of the skittish satellite it could not see the invaders larger ships or fleet beyond flights of fighter craft. Your Eyegore watches and observes, plotting out the celestial bodies within the system as your Necrotic Fleet travels to defend your would-be allies.

For once the Armada will fight to protect another faction out of a sense of camaraderie.

Vehicles When? edition.

Have any of you ever had a game where cars, planes, submarines, etc. played a major part, or were the entire focus of, the campaign? Have you used any vehicle combat rules? How did it that work out for you?

Personally, I've never been in a game with vehicles as the major focus, or even used vehicle combat rules. I've always wanted to run a game that took place on the Krajina Express, though.

Fast-Draw does not exist for all weapons, including staves IIRC. However it's a moot point; while >>46676574 is right is that holding the staff in a "walking staff" position is different than holding it in a "combat" position (to say nothing off the two-handed-swordlike grip), I'd say that going between walking with it and fighting with it as a staff is a free action. At worst, pick up Grip Mastery; it's one point and there's no way anyway can argue it takes a full second to Ready the staff after walking with it.
>>
>>46676935
There are plenty of ways you can have a weapon in hand and still have to take a Ready action to be able to attack with it. Weapons that unready after swinging, for example.

To go back to the staff, a walking grip has your hand near the top, which is completely unsuitable for attacking with it. You'd have to slide your hand down most of the length of the staff, probably even involving your off hand to help adjust your grip.

I wouldn't argue with making it a free action myself, since I don't think it's vitally important or anything, but I wouldn't argue with it being a Ready action either.
>>
Oh, right, forgot I actually came here to ask a question:

What's the best way to represent a character that's made minor enemies all over the place, without having to stat up dozens of individual Enemy disadvantages? I'm working on a rough-and-tumble scoundrel type that's ruffled a lot of feathers all over the place.

A Reputation doesn't really work (though I'll probably have some of that anyway), since a reaction modifier isn't what I'm looking for. I'd like to do something like roll against frequency upon entering a new area or staying in place for a while, and on a "success" one of the character's enemies is either already there (for a new area), or has tracked him down (if he sits still for too long). I'd also like the enemy types to vary as well... sometimes a Watcher, sometimes a Hunter, most often a Rival, something like that.

Bonus points if the method used also works for minor allies, since he's also made a lot of friends all over as well.

Is there anything that works like this, or lets me get close?

What's the hardest you've been railroaded in a game? How did you fuck it up? What's the hardest you've derailed a game?
158 posts and 18 images submitted.
>>
no good railroading thing but once i was playing a game set almost entirely in a massive city. instead of following plot hooks, i managed to convince my party members to help me gentrify the slums.
eventually we declared ourselves nobility and seceded, causing a civil war.
never got to finish that campaign, but the DM had me roll up 50 level 1-5 characters for our little army and i still bring them out every now and then when im supposed to make a new character.
>>
God, what a retarded story that was.
Henderson is such garbage.
>>
>>46676938
made you roll them up like, as their own characters? with personalities and everything? That seems like more effort than it's worth.

Eversor's probably the best bet. He's got a claw, a sword, a skull face and explodes when he dies.

Failing that, a generic space marine. Because that's about as iconic as you can possibly get.

It would probably be the exact same. Just because there's a dog sized spider, it doesn't mean it will act like a small spider, only bigger. As they would be larger, larger brains, which means they would actually act like vertebrates. They'd fill the same niches, and those giants ants aren't actually ants, just cows, and those spiders are dogs, and those tarantulas are bears. Not literallly, but the thing with giant insects is that they wouldn't act like regular insects, because convergent evolution and biological niches.

The year is 1126 of our Lord, and we enter the second year of reconquest undertaken with Papal endorsement.

Twenty-one years have now passed since the worst of the conflicts in the Holy Land around Jerusalem died down, leaving Crusader States in the wake of a glorious Crusade.

Following the success of his forebear's personal project, Pope Urchin II hopes to generate another Christian victory in the Iberian peninsula, aiding the King of Aragon and the Queen of Castille in driving the moors from their southern borders.

So far, there have been only minor border conflicts. The moors and their allies gather their strength to repel the Christian world, while the agents of the Eastern Empire establish bases on the Balearic isles.

A coalition of Catholic knights have united to take the city of Zaragoza, and defeated the local garrison in a near miraculous display of martial skill and valour.

Will the controversial bull declaring the Reconquista a Holy Crusade pay dividends, or will this rash action doom the western men of the cross?

Only time will tell.

This is an alternate-history nation builder with an emphasis on the characters that take part in this holy war. It is a sequel to the original Crusade Builder, whose archive you can find at http://archive.4plebs.org/tg/search/subject/Crusade%20Builder/ if you are interested.

However, knowledge of the minutiae of those threads are not necessary to participate. The builder has yet to diverge significantly from history, with the cracks only just starting to show with this second Crusade.

You take on the role of a warlord of some description. Whether you intend to make a name, carve out a kingdom, serve your ruler faithfully or defend your home, you must have come from somewhere.

To play, fill in the following character sheet:

Name: [What you are called]
Culture: [Your country of origin]
Fluff: [What were you known for before the reconquest? Why are you taking part?]
Religion: [Are you a triumphant Catholic? A resurgent eastern Orthodox? A beleaguered Sunni or even some kind of Pagan?]
Colour: [How do you want to be represented on the map?]
Transit: [How did you arrive in Iberia? Did you march? Did you sail? Or are you simply defending your home?]

Name: Tariq Abd al-Aziz
Culture: Andalusian, from Córdoba
Fluff: Tariq's ancestors boast a proud history of service to Islam and to al-Andalus. His family claim service to the Ummayad dynasty and all it's successors, extending from before 718 and the conquest of al-Andalus from the Catholic Visigoths. From birth, Tariq has trained in the art of strategy and war, and honed a reputation as a soldier of merit and student of Islam, despite his youth. He aspires to defend his home, despite any cost, and to repel any would be invaders with extreme prejudice. He seeks to make his ancestors proud and win favor as a valiant and loyal servant to his liege, the Emir of Cordoba. With his youth, however, comes a thirst for glory that has yet to be properly sated.
Religion: Sunni Islam
Colour: Dark Green
Transit: Located in Córdoba
Military: 50 mounted, 333 men at arms, 1348 rabble.
Bonuses: [A Worthy Vassal] As vassals of Cordoba, Tariq and his family can occasionally act with the authority of their liege, but may have tasks required of them in exchange.

Tariq sat in a dimly lit room reading by candlelight, sorting through missives that brought news of war, death, and defeat. His hand clenched into a fist, and the letter – freshly delivered from Zaragoza, and stained with blood – was crumpled and discarded.

“Zaragoza, Valencia… all taken by heathens. The blood of our Muslim brothers fills the streets, and now Franks and Greeks cheer over our battlements, praising their false gods.” Tariq mutters to his young squire, Fahmi, a green boy of only 15 years. “Fetch me my arms and armor, Fahmi.”

Flickers of light danced across the cold links of Tariq’s mail as his young squire hefted the heavy coat off of its rack. As the squire outfits Tariq in his war garb, he breaks the silence, questioning his master. “Surely the Emir will crush the infidel, yes? For god is with him” the boy asks, almost succeeding at hiding his anxiousness.

In the West, the inroki tribes were conquered by our allies, the Sunset Alliance, on one side and by the Pacharnati Empire on the other.
The Pacharnati are the dominant force on the continent in terms of territory and population. Since the arrival of the colonial powers they have carefully sought to avoid conflict with them and instead absorb knowledge and technologies. They have domesticated horses, adopted new animal and plant breeds and are familiar with gunpowder now - they remain less developed, but are making strides to catch up, having realised their dominance is under threat.
