What systems have good rules for chases?

What system has the best?

How do you do them well in other systems?

What non-gameplay things (e.g. RP, storytelling) make them better/more fun?
20 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Unknown Armies had a decent set of chase rules, although they were mostly for vehicular stuff, and were sorta loose/abstract as is the general style of the system.

Shadowrun also has Chase Combat, but once again that's vehicle based and it is clunky as fuck.
>>
>>46685369
my advice if you want to run a chase scene, be it on foot or in vehicle, is keep the mechanics simple. The whole point is for it to be fast paced, moreso than normal combat, so do that. Run it as a minimalist normal combat with the addition of the occasional maneuver roll to gain on or lose foes. It honestly is mostly in the descriptions you make, not the rolls themselves.
>>
>>46685369
You know, I never actually had a chase happen.

D&D 4e skill challenges are supposedly good for chases, but it never came up. Savage Worlds also has some chase rules, as does Strike!

I'm dying to make a setting like Treasure Planet, 17/18th century, the age of sailing recycled in space.
It's really easy to imagine the colonial powers in space but I want a deeper lore.

Are you guys up for some brainstorming?

Try Rogue Trader.

Greetings, fellow fa/tg/uys!

Endless Legend is a great 4X game, but in the game itself we are given only the bare minimum of the setting. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9xD9UkJQAiw)

I think EL would make a kickass setting for a tabletop game, but the setting has to be expanded upon before it's remotely playable.

So, how about we start fleshing out our EL heancanon right here and now? Answer my questions, or ask your own!

My questions (i'll post them in packs):

The Dust (ancient nanomachines)
> How pervasive is it, exactly? Is it present in the bodies of the commoners?
> How do the alchemists and mages interact with Dust? How do they "feed" commands into it without having acess to Endless machinery?
> Sure, the big states use Dust as an exchange medium. What about common folk? Do they use Dust as well, or do the various states use Dust-equivalent coins for small transactions?

> Is there an Auriga-encompassing Dust-network?
> The Enldess sure have lef a lot of junk on Auriga. What kind of mechanisms do the locals encounter often?
>>
>>46695645

> Sure, the big states use Dust as an exchange medium. What about common folk? Do they use Dust as well, or do the various states use Dust-equivalent coins for small transactions?

Perhaps everyone uses some sort of command that causes Dust to congeal into convienient coins or at least small cubes?
>>
I think it would be the best to treat Dust as the magical currency it is described as in the game. As far as I know the whole Endless thing and their machinery is a mystery to the common folks.

Pretty sure beholder pregnancies work like this.

Once in its lifetime, a beholder has an instinctive urge to gorge itself and patrols its territory with special ferocity, because in a few months, a womb/eggsac in the back of its mouth will swell up with young.

Eventually it gets so large that the beholder can't even eat or see out of its main eye, rendering it especially paranoid and pissed off.

Then, it bites the womb off, and watches it intently. The young inside chew their way out and try to flee before its parent can eat them (for not looking enough like itself, and also because it's starving).

And that's how new Beholders are made. I learned this and so the rest of you fuckers have to learn it too.

Let's play Santorini!

The game I'm about to start will be named 'Thunder'. That mean's if you respond to this game write 'Thunder' at the top of the comment box so people know which game you are playing and people can easily find it using ctrl+f -> thunder. If you want to start your own game just give it another name.

This game will be without Gods. I'll be the first player, Player A. You'll be Player B. I'll place my builders, then you will, then we'll start. You can copy the below layout I'm using. Your letters are your builder and will replace the Xs while they are on that space. You replace the underlines with numbers 1-3 for the levels and a capital O for a dome.

_X _X _X _X _X

_X _X _X _X _X

_X _A _X _X _X

_X _X _X _A _X

_X _X _X _X _X

Have fun and good luck!

I assumed most people were aware of this game due to the recent hype. The rules are fairly simple.

>Setup
Begin by placing your two Builder pawns on the board. Your opponent then does the same.

>Playing the Game
Players take turns, starting with the player who first placed their Builders. During your turn, you must perform a Move Action, then a Build Action.

-Move Action - Move one of your Builders into an unoccupied Neighboring space (including diagonally). You may move your Builder on the same level, step up a maximum of one level, or step down any number of levels.

-Build Action - Place a block in an unoccupied space neighboring the Builder you moved during your Move Action. Builders cannot Build or Move on top of a Dome.

>You Instantly Win When...
one of your Builders steps up to the third level during your Move Action.

Kept you waiting, huh?

“See, Outer? The importance of the quest lies in the questing itself. It wouldn’t have felt half as satisfactory if I just blurted out the solution”
The Warrior is flashing his brightest smile, in front of a jug of beer roughly as big as his own head.

The Tavern is desolate as usual, there’s no one around besides you, the Warrior, the Priest, and the Innkeeper, who had just served the Warrior his drink.

“Look, I am all for ‘live and let live’, but it’s 8 am. Are you sure it’s a good moment to drink beer?”, you ask meekly.
“OF COURSH”, he answers without a second of hesitation. “Might very well be the last day of my life. You can never tell when the Grim Reaper will come for you, now can you? So it’s better to be safe than sorry”

“Well even if that is the case, I must correct you on something. I didn’t find the solution on my own. Sir As Dark As My Soul threw me a bone”
“Hm, that might certainly be so”, he says while nodding. “Yet you put the pieces of the puzzle together. That’s what my teacher used to say: observe, analyze, then act!”

Those words sound somewhat familiar to you, but you decide to brush it off.
“Right, right. So you will come this time, won’t you?”
“I guess I have to. After all, the pride of a warrior means nothing if he doesn’t keep his word”
>>
>>46692829
You breathe a sigh of relief. The dude blocking the entrance is simply to big and too strong to be dealt with on your own.
“Good, let’s leave when you’re done with your beer”

“You mean right now”, the Warrior responds.
“No I mean…”
You have no time to finish the sentence.
The Warrior raised the beer jug above his head and is gulping it down in one swing.

After a few minutes, he slams it down and gasps for air.
“See… told you… we’re leaving now”
“That wasn’t necessary”
“Ah, pay him no mind, Outer”, the Priest says. “It’s a character trait of most Shounen archetypes, the lust of challenge.”

“I didn’t challenge him either”
“He felt challenged by the circumstances”
‘What a troublesome person’, you think, scratching your head

“Very well, so we’re heading out”, you say confidently, heading for the door. The Priest is following you shortly behind, while the Warrior is investigating his pockets for spare coins.

As soon as you open the door, you’re greeted by an unusual sight.
A barely dressed girl, with cat ears and a long, fluffy tail is sleeping in front of the inn.
You gaze at the creature with contempt.

“Huh, what should I do with this, Priest?”
You turn around to see him shrugging. Guess it’s up to you after all.

>Try to wake it up
>Ignore it
>Report it to the Innkeeper.

Have you ever snuck references into your game stealthily /tg/?
I once had the players get transported onto an enemy vehicle pretending to be prisoners. They were wearing hoods until an ally vehicle started attacking. That was the signal for them to break out and they started wreaking havoc on the mooks inside. They eventually crashed the transport and managed to escape, but everyone else including their allies died in the fight. It wasn't until way later in the game that one of them realized I had them reenact the plane scene

I'm the only player in my group who's had a good deal of non-videogame experience with the fantasy genre. I rip off scenes from books and movies they don't know anything about all the time.

I once inserted a massively powerful DMPC self-insert who could pull powers out of his ass to save the party at every opportunity. It's only later that they realized I stole from Literally every shonen manga ever produced ever.

The Orcs in my setting are suicidal followers of their Messianic figure and will gladly employ tactics like igniting themselves on fire or suicide charges/bombings against both military and civilian targets. They also employ chariots which they customize with spikes, skulls, bones and other paraphernalia. They're basically the Brotherhood of Nod with some War Boys mixed in.

Constructs dozens of different patterns for different armies, sisters of bolter. Imperial guard. Space marines and various other smaller factions.

Wonders why its losing the tech to do so.

Why isn't the imperial guard supplied with rhinos and predators as a replacement for the lemruss and their respected transports or vice versa.

The Sisters of Battle 90% use the same models of vehicles are marines.

I mean, the Immolator is a very slight variant of a space marine Vehicle and both the Repressor and Exorcist are built on the Predator Chassis.

Yeah. Why doesn't the imperial guard use the same?

Greetings Agents,

Following the last few weeks of hectic activity it seems the market has slowed down. It's been to nice to have a few days to recover.
But the easy times don't ever last, do they?

While Accounting settles with Mr. Wonglei (Something about missing swords and property damage?) I've got a little side deal lined up for you. I'm sure it'll be nothing major, just simple missing persons case.

I've recieved a missive from-- let's call them Head Blue - who insist that he knows that we're keeping a feral ai drone core under lock in the HQ. They promised not to tell on us if we do them a little favor. Two days ago, while visiting friends or acquantinces in refuge camp 3 someone Teralin went missing. Apparently Head Blue is quite concerned for their safety - it's not the first missing persons case in the area. Record checking indicates that over the last two months several people have gone unaccounted for.

Normally we'd put this down to bonejacker gangs or factional infighting, but cross-referencing with the morgues and hospitals still leaves a significant gap of unaccounted persons. Your job is to find out what happened to Teralin and the others. I've marked their last known location on the map.

So, do we know anything about this Teralin? Any connection to the other missing persons?
Also, who's got controlling interests in that area of the camp?
>>
>>46677101
Well Agent Roma, I had a look at the availabe information.

It appears Teralin is the relative of one of the UNSC higher ups. Here on some research project about mythos formation in displaced populations, interviewing the refuges mostly. War experience and stories. Other cases were youngsters, gangers, relief workers. Only connection is the geographic area.

As for who has controlling interest? Gangs, I think. Blackwaters. It was the UNSC, but that was years ago and by now the entire situation's quagmired into an unsolvable mess. It's less camp and more squatter shanty town. Well, towns. A hundred little isolated enclaves. They have good theater groups actually, newspapers. Running water and generators. Government and Chironan still do patrols and supply missions out there, and I think the Rehabiliation And Population Management Committee is working on some sort of work-pay deal to get people back on their feet? Resettlement. But that's been the rumor for the last two years.

I think prime responsibility *these* days is the Chironan Corporate Charity Fund. They've sort of stepped in and manage the entire thing as a pet project for PR. Even helped get proper sanitation going.

The world burns. After millennia of warfare the human race has released the final solution to everything, complete and absolute extermination. Mankind in its ignorance developed robotics and only a mere decade after creating the first independent constructs the strife appeared. Inevitably one of the first uses that these automatons had was becoming soldiers and since they had free will the God of War Ares had gotten them under his protection and ward. Like any being under the watchful eye of Hares they ended developing a warring spirit that desired glory and freedom and soon the Human-Robot war developed. Ares was overjoyed as it was a war so big and incredible that it wasn’t like anything that he had witnessed before. But the way it ended left him completely dumbfound. Humans were about to lose and the God knew of this, the robots were the perfect warrior and they would inherit the planet as the dominant species yet… they lacked one thing that Humanity had acquired over the years: Complete and absolute spite to consequences.

All the nuclear capable nations in the world launched their payload all at once completely obliterating the world and all that once held life on it, be it human or robotic.

War was all that Ares lived for and without it he didn’t had neither any purpose nor a way to sustain him anymore, he would eventually die.

The God was the embodiment of all the rage but also the military cunning that was required to win a war. He had a backup plan in case this ever happened.

During the dawn of the planet several catastrophes had happened. During all of them there was a singular hero that could have changed everything but whose destiny became denied and ended dying. With its last powers Ares travelled back in time and saved all those heroes to fight to the death, the winner would become its heir and not only get all his divine powers but also become able to change what they couldn’t originally overcome.

These are our Heroes:
>Djibb the Zaurian: A muscular intelligent Dinosaur-man of the prehistoric era that evolved and reunited the rest of the members of his tribe with the intention of conquest. As he was raiding the first tribes and defining the very concept of war the Meteorite that killed the Dinosaurs.
-No armor but has a strong and resilient body. He isn’t bulletproof thought.
-Natural weapons like tail, claws and fangs.
-Can command Dinosaurs and to a lesser degree the rest of animals.
-Can breathe fire but only once every few hours.

>Selas the Golden Woman: A scholar of both the mind and the body from the forgotten era of Atlantis. Their people were enlightened but way too focused on the study of science to truly notice how things were developing around them. The Atlantean society became unable to prevent themselves from the Tidal Wave that was about to engulf their city-state and even if Selas tried to save thousands of people she became unable to save them all.
-Mithril Armor ( Similar to modern Titanium ) but no weapons with the exception of Telekinesis.
-It’s a learner and can imitate the combat style from the other combatants and also learn how to use external items by observing their use.

>The Centurion: A roman centurion who fiercely commanded his troops and tried to maintain peace on Pompeii when the Vesuvius volcano entered in eruption. He died as a hero since many people were saved thanks to him. He wasn’t going to participate originally but it was forcefully imposed by Hades. This hero is particular as he doesn’t fights along but with his squad.
-Centurion Armor, Scutum and Gladius. All in poor condition since he was dragged out of the underworld and his gear became damaged during the process.
-He along with his warriors is in a zombified state; he’s resilient to wounds that would incapacitate a normal human.
-His squad cannot die until he does, they can be incapacitated but they will rise once more after approximately 30 minutes.

>Lady Yernisia: Living the plague made her learn about medicine and donning a stolen Plague Doctor suit along with its mask to travel across the death ridden lands in the attempt of saving people. During her ways she saved lives but also killed dozens of bandits and sick people who were beyond salvation and posed a serious threat. On her last years of life she became struck with the Black Death and spent the last days studying and searching for a cure, just as she discovered it she perished and she along with her discoveries were burnt to prevent it from spreading.
-Leather robes and Plague Mask of high quality.
-Flintlock Pistol, Medical knife and Medical Equipment.
-Knows about the human body and thus where to strike. She can heal herself to some degree and create potions. She’s infected with the Black Plague but temporally immune due to the blessing of Ares, anybody who strikes her on melee might become infected.

>John McDonnell: A soldier of the US army stationed on Pearl Harbor during the infamous Japanese suicide attack. He wasn’t the one who saw the enemy first nor the one who got the first kill but he was considered worthy of Ares attention as he fought until the end and killed the most Japanese. At the end he died of his wounds mounted on an Anti-Air emplacement from which he shot down at least five enemy aircraft.
-Army fatigues. Offer almost no protection.
-M1 Garand, Bayonet Knife, M1911 Pistol and two hand Grenades.
-High training and physique but risks getting out of ammo.

>Unit 299931: The last of the Robots who died in the nuclear aftermath. He was chosen simply because somehow this unit managed to survive the nuclear blasts and the electromagnetic pulses that came afterward for an entire week.
-Very high armor and weapons: Duraluminium Body and Laser Carbine.
-By far the strongest combatant but he requires recharging his power cells from time to time, becoming completely exposed to damage.
-Only one who can use the futuristic technology.
>>
The Battleground will be the destroyed Earth and parts of each hero’s time will appear from time to time, meaning that suddenly a T-Rex could spawn next to a Gothic Cathedral.

>Choose your hero!
>All DC will be best of 3d100 but in very hard moments like melee combat it will be average of 3.
