You are the head researcher at a government facility. Your sole responsibility is to teach the world's first autonomous AI, nicknamed Pandora, about life, the world and her existence.
Previously you had a heartfelt goodbye with your AI "daughter", who, as it turns out, didn't actually want you to go.
You headed out with Babsy, the object of your affections, on your first ever date. You had a lovely time, even learning her real name was Theresa, until the bigoted antics of the local drunk nearly ruined your evening. But, some quick thinking and a little liquid courage worked wonders and you talked him down.
Your reward was a kiss and you took it with the utmost grace and dignity and didn't act like a complete doofus at all.
Welcome back to Pandora Quest!

Good to be back.
>>
You are awoken by the sound of the shower's running water. You check the time and it's easily an hour before you usually get up, even at work. You can take the engineer out of the Facility, you think to yourself...

You flop back in bed and wait for her to finish, checking your phone idly. Mouse, whom you don't recall ever giving your phone number, has left you around 10 messages, most of which are just varying numbers of eyebrow-waggling emojis. You're pretty sure this breaks about four different government protocols, but you just resolve to yell at her for yet another offense when you get back.

Theresa exits the bathroom fully dressed in another sun dress; this one is a sort of powder blue with little screws, bolts and tools around the bottom.

"About time," she says, toweling her hair off "I was able to do some jogging and get a little yoga in while you were asleep. What's on the agenda for today?"

You silently curse yourself for missing that and promise to never sleep in again. What do you tell her?

Apologies for the late start, everyone, offline events kept me busy for a while.

Nonetheless welcome back, to part two of our first two-parter. As always, you are Captain Roarke S. Starwind of the Iron Kestrels pirate crew.

And today, you start off locked in battle with Captain Oda Yoritomo of the Storm Dragons.

Normally, his Osano-Wo has 5 Kills in the head, 10 in the torso, and 6 on each limb. All locations have 7 SP armor. It moves at around 400 meters per turn. However, you have dented his torso armor down to 6 SP and inflicted 2 Kills of damage on his right arm. His left arm has been pinned by your grappling harpoon.

"Starwind-san, I see...you really wanted to show me your warrior spirit, didn't you?" He chuckles over the comms, "You definitely found yourself something good...but don't count me out yet! Witness my glorious Fang of the Storm Dragon Stab, nii-chan!"

He flips his ungrappled katana around into a reverse grip, and brings it down hard towards the Knuckle Kaiser, aiming for the joint between the right arm and the shoulder.

Roll 1d10+13 to dodge and if necessary parry him.

Question: do multiple concurrent pins require multiple escape actions to get free from, or does a single successful escape him free from all grabs he's under at that time?

A few months fly by without much more dramatic revelations from the proud new king, Tarble seems content to rest on his laurels while you train him, falling into a routine.

Sleep, train, work out alone, train some more, pick Bra up, train more, sleep again. It's getting pretty comfy, in a way.

You awaken around eight, head downstairs, make some coffee, help with breakfast, the usual, you take your coffee with you as you head for the front door, bumping it open with a hip, intent on fetching the paper.

You ignore the world, save for that little bundle of paper for a moment, brain still waking up, you squat down and grab it, hearing several loud clicks from outside the front gate.

Huh?

You look up, buncha dudes in bright orange vests are standing in the street, in cover behind the picket fence, or the neighbours houses, a hundred weapons trained on you.

They even brought a tank... and what seems to be a mounted missile launcher.

"You're under arrest!" Someone bellows through a megaphone. "Come out with your hands up!"

You raise one finger, staring down at your coffee.

Siiiiiiiip.

You can see the men getting more and more agitated as you knock your coffee back, before you drop it, letting it sit in the grass as Bra comes skipping out of the house, coming to a halt by your side, staring curiously at the crowd, before she grins, cracking her knuckles.

>"On what grounds?"
>Alright, just go with them, no point making a scene
>Nah, screw this. Break their guns, break their tanks, break everything.

(And so it appears that the best of the portraits has been saved for last! My old partner in QM, Grandflaw, was responsible for Samson here)

Heavy of heart still with the loss of Gerard, Dyrus and the rest of his party sail for Darton. If they can rally the considerably powerful population of the area, they MIGHT stand a chance in their impending battle with Director Waldrick. Thankfully, if rumors on the ocean's winds are to be taken seriously, chance is this Fortune woman's specialty. It would be folly to bank on luck alone, but she has the hired muscle to back it up.

Rene's turn this rotation is up, and Dyrus' was just the other day, so by default you are now Samson.

On the border of Noba and what was once Holmstead, your mother regales your party with more tales of her mercenary past. You're spending the night at Philean Outpost, as it's known, currently stuck in a meal (Jack was right, the stuff they offer here is garbage).

"There was this group of bandits, made up of traffickers from the archipelago who got away from the seas, basically had all of Darton by the balls," your mother very eloquently says. "Then, this girl... Think she'd be a bit less than your age now, Samson. Anyway, only person she's got in the world is a nephew half her age and they take him. I happened to be blowing through town right around then, and you know how I am about kids. I don't hesitate to hunt these guys down to this warehouse of sorts on the outskirts of town... Not only was the nephew alive and unharmed, but the kid and I managed to sweep up nearly every member of the group. That was the last real job I did before meeting August, actually."

>A. What's she up to these days?
>B. She left them to fend for themselves?!
>C. You don't care enough to comment.
>D. Write-in response

The crevasses of your mind crawl with liquid madness as you stare on the unholy porcelain edifice before you. It’s a tea pot. Just a tea pot. But within, your heart tells you that it must not exist.
“Lilly… what… is that?!”
“Hm?” She tilts her head. It takes you a second to remember the rather obvious reason why she might not be able to tell what ‘that’ is. Ever mindful of her sister, Akira leaves your side and whispers something into her ear.
“Oh, that.” Lilly sighs. “That’s a family heirloom. No idea where it came from, we’ve just always had that piece of the tea set.”
“…Piece?”
“My, my, Hanako? Have you forgotten how to serve tea?”
Oh… right. The bare minimum requirements for a proper tea ceremony are a tea pot, cup, and saucer. It other words, that there is only a third of the puzzle…
“So why no riot?” Akira breaks you from your reverie, her face a little sour.
Lilly giggles, amused at her sister’s tenacity. “I’m sure Hanako has something better in mind.”
Your mind is still riddled with thoughts of the incomplete tea set, but before you can try to stammer something out, the attendance call-bell rings. Lilly perks up and rises. “Oh my, where does the time go… Coming to class, Hanako?”

That's true, but I think the difference between a monk that does rogue like things is the monk uses rigorous teachings passed down through generations of thief monks to regulate their ki energy.

Rogues are just sort of doing things based on natural talent and possibly lots of practice and independent experimentation.

Quest Start

“So, you are the fabled Red Eyed Beast,” he states with an almost mechanical tone as he rises from the unscoured high back office chair, craning his neck as the scarred upper right quadrant of his face creases oddly with the shifting of his brow.

He has older features, not a true old man but older than your father...but you imagine his appearance belies his true age. His hair is dark but peppered with spots of grey and white. There is a stern and acute military posture to his body language as he stands there observing your slackened own posturing. The circuitous flecks of pale purple crystal spark and reflect in the light as that stern creasing relaxes.

This man, clad in dark cloth and black lacquered armor, you have fought him before in a different guise. Your little sister has fought him, and you imagine he is far more dangerous than she realized from their brief clashes…because at that time he may not have been trying to hurt her. In the quiet after his words and movement, you scrutinize him with your ability to gauge the true nature of your enemies and are shocked to learn he is only an augmented human. In terms of the combat potential he has is about an even challenge to your present abilities, including some magic and artificial limbs.

Yes. This man, Hiddenite, could have completely shut down your little sister when she fought him as Sailor New Moon.

He is flanked by two dangerous people who you clearly recognize.

One a thin and lazy looking fellow who yawns slightly and runs a hand through messy hair, you know him as Kalunite. The secretly undead former member of the Elysion Royal Guard in an age before recorded history, slain during the fall of both that earthly kingdom and the Silver Millenium above it.

The other is known to you as Borealis, thanks to the things a friend revealed to you. A scientist in the service of this enemy who was turned into a monster of his own negative emotions against his will. His abilities are varied, and his appearance as a giant blue hulking brute in a torn labcoat belies his cunning.

You are a different matter.

Your name is Mikage Chiba, second year highschool student fifteen years old, and you were the third woman to bear the mantle of the Magical Guardian of Love and Justice known as Sailor Moon. A traumatic victory and what you thought was the end of an enemy threat to this world prompted you to abandon that mantle for your little sister Koyomi to take up. The two of you were proceeded in this task by your mother and your elder sister.

At present you are in the guise of the Red Eyed Beast, delinquent terror of Juuban. After you abandoned the mantle of Sailor Moon, you withdrew from yourself and your life and set about partitioning yourself into segregated personalities to cope with the trauma you experienced. However though your own efforts you’ve been working hard to put yourself back together.

The Red Eyed Beast is again part of the whole, though you wear that disguise today to potentially infiltrate the enemy who has been plaguing Tokyo as of late.

Hiddenite’s question hands in the air.

The beginning conversations and procedures are quite boring and long-winded. You discuss your domicile arrangements and which quarters will be assigned to whom. You go over controls to the various protective magical traps in the tower and how to operate them. Your exact powers, roles and responsibilities are outlined in extensive detail.

You discuss access to the theoretical magical research materials you currently lack. Apparently a shipment of supplies will be coming in from the Mainland soon to get the Circle's constructive ability back on its feet. Books will need to be rewritten, wands and scrolls will have to be created, more recruits with magical potential will need to be shipped in and animals will have to be collected.

The current head count leaves you with five circle magisters and twelve mages, the decision to jump up all the current acolytes to that rank passing with a unanimous vote.

After two hours and a multitude of caffeinated beverages you come to discuss a matter of some import: your missing Archmage.

“Essentia and Stephen have been stuck on the other side of that door for eleven days, or a little over two months in there,” Flid explains. “I was beginning to write them both off for good, but,” Flid looks to Azdor, expecting him to finish.

“I attempted to scry for Essentia's location and failed to pinpoint her location. Corpses cannot resist detection,” Azdor tells you. “I also scried Stephen's location and have found him and his demonic allies . They are currently remaining stationary and as such we would be capable of . . . engaging them.”

“So the question I pose to the council is this: Should we attack? We could close the connection between our worlds and be rid of Stephen forever or we could risk more casualties to attempt to save the Archmage.” Flid looks at the three of you, eyes eager for sound advice.

Why do firearms in fantasy games almost always get nerfed to shit? There's balance, and then there's making something so bad that no one will ever take it. Why can't we have decent guns along with dwarves and elves and orcs?
337 posts and 49 images submitted.
>>
>>46714450
well depending on era firearms were shit irl. then past a certain point they are too dam good. i think having the guns is just kinda a no win scenario
>>
>>46714513
A lot of shitty things in the medieval era get glossed over in fantasy settings though. Why would firearms be the exception?
>>
>>46714450
>Fantasy games

Look, if all you have experience with is D&D, just say so instead of making sweeping, untrue generalizations.

In superheroes with swords type games (like D&D), guns tend to be shitty because they're the most boring weapons, they don't make for cool videogamey swordfights where you're "tanking" a giant or whatever, and they're not sexy like an elf with a bow, so they don't get any love.

Plus, effective guns means that most fantasy settings have to look WAY different or admit to being retarded, so it's easier to just go "ohyeah there's guns, but they're shit".

A lot of the people you play with would have a bitchfit if they got shot in the head with a gun and just died, like guns are somehow lethal, they don't want good guns, they want paper Diablo 3.

"HE JUST REACHED A HAND UP MY SKIRT!" Felice yells, sword drawn; red blush on face.

Dumb, fat, cat-nobleman lays dazzled across a matted table on the other side of the room. There's a red, palm-shaped welt growing on his face.

In front of you, one of the butlers drew a knife and started advancing at the scene. There is now a revolver pressed against his back.
"Don't move." You whisper in his ear.

You are Jack Albator, excellent bodyguard, keen protector, and-
He starts moving away from you again. You grab his cat tail and yank on it. This illicits a very strained yelp.

"Whar did I just say."
"Sir." The butler peeks behind him. "I think this is a misunderstanding. I'm part of the guard that is protecting the princess."

"Stay put for a minute."

-So, why are you at a dinner party where Charlotte is attending? Well, it's because you think the answer to ending all the attacks is right here; within these walls.
You've known for some time now that Gallete had a mole in it. It's no coincidence that after Gallete royalty started living in your castle, that attacks popped up.

By the end of the night, you're going to suss out the traitorous scum and throw him on the other side of the barrier.
The butler in front of you glares, "I have an important mission for the princess, and I intend to complete it to the utmost of my ability."

"Felice, calm down." You hear from the other side of the room. Charlotte is disciplining her knight on the matters of acting ladylike.
"You're one to talk, he-"

"Stop." Charlotte has that ominous tone in her voice.

Felice sighs, and steps away from the man. Two guards lift him up and drag him out of the assembly.

The butler waves to Charlotte. Her face lights up and she starts to approach.

>You're being paranoid, put the revolver away and greet cat Princess.
>Keep him held up.
>Put the revolver away, but keep a firm grip on him
>"Aye still don't trust ye."

Rules for this are simple. I'm going to post a chunk of text, followed by a set of options. Sometimes there'll be more, sometimes there'll be less. Regardless, the rules for you guys are to take a choice from the options provided and roll a d100 for effectiveness. I'll only look at the first 10 comments after any options are given for rolls determined. To make your votes matter, i'm going to go with the highest voted option, followed by highest rolls. You guys are heavily encouraged to add minor details for flavor. (Rolls make sure that certain aspects of flavored text win)

>Character creation completed; Warmage with broken steel armor, cowl to cover it
>Weapon chosen; scythe with power that increases through soul count to complete reaper look
>First hamlet conquered with diplomacy and sheer brilliance through tactics
>Soul count: 0
>Number of dead: 0 (For now)

You began the trip to caravan the needed materials back to the ruined keep, where, upon the first nightfall, you realized that neither you nor your troops have the need to eat or sleep, though your minions seem to be very interested in eating the people when they lag behind. None have been harmed yet, but you grow mildly uneasy about the implications before the thoughts are shoved out of your head at the sound of booming howls off in the distance.
Dire wolves are setting upon the caravan.

>Circle the wagons, set up a fire, and have the minions be the frontline
>Let them do as they will, your minions and supplies are all that matters
>Step out from the caravan line with X minions in tow and deal with them before they become a threat
>Write in/Other
