Topic starter (and continuation of a discussion from last thread): what is your favorite setting/plane to run a campaign in?
Pic related is mine, too bad my group hates it.
>>48955908
Dark Sun is really easy to figure out; it's basically a fairly pure example of the Dying Earth subgenre, which was popular at the time.
Warlocks are best.
>>48955919
I'm running FGG's Lost Lands setting, myself.
>The GM assumes you'll get out of his pit trap exactly the way he'd have done it.
>Laughs when we couldn't figure out how to get out of his trap because there's only one specific way to get out.
>Not giving alternatives to exit the trap.
Railroad aside, what causes this dumb issue of only having one solution for things in campaigns? Lack of imagination? Poor planning? Wanting to feel superior to the players? Autism? It shouldn't be this hard to imagine how the scenario would look like from the players perspective.
A specific example of this occurring? Never seen it before.
Literally all of those things.
>the ball was glass and the key was inside! you had to examine the ball!
Fuck you Jordan.
>>48955547
Like, clear glass? If it's opaque glass and you had to handle it and hear the rattling that would almost make sense.
Orc lives matter!
Hilariously, most orcs are killed by other orcs, not Paladins.

No they don't, you Gnome-sponsored domestic terrorist.

Why would anyone want to be a vampire or be scared of them? They are shit! Look how many weaknesses they have
>sunlight
>fire
>decapitation (which means a headshot should also drop them)
>piercing the heart (again bullet would suffice)
>can't cross running water
>they only can feed on blood
>allergic to garlic
meanwhile werewolves
>silver
see the difference? Vampires are only strong in settings which conviniently ignore half of their weaknesses and turn them into Mary Sues and they are fucking gay even since Briam Stoker turned them from disgusting walking corpses into fuckboys (that's right it's not Twilight's fault Dracula was the cancer that actually killed vampires).
To be fair, most anons too suffer from a terrible weakness to decapitation and getting their heart pierced.
And an allergy or two.
It's all about them being in their element.
Because when they are in their element shit gets crazy.
>>48950678
Because the vampire can outsmart you and play around its weaknesses while a werewolf can't control itself during the full moon.
It's okay if you're 1000 and still can't breathe fire right guys?

Nobody listens to those rules.
OP, if you can't feel a little bit of a flame or puff smoke, something might be wrong and you might need to see someone.

>Untraditional Locations Edition: Where in the world have you gone, or wanted to go, chummers?
Miami, Moskva, and Atlantic City all seem like they'd be cool places to run. I'd add Vancouver to that, but it's NAN, so that sort of ruins everything.
I found this thing on pintrest I figured it looked like something a runner might actually wear.
what movies, games, or other visual media do you go to for ideas regarding the look and feel of cyberpunk?
São Paulo.
I'd love to know what favelas look like in SR.

Too soon.
I'm sorry, but... I can't. I love the man's work too much.

Great, trans-temporal baneposting.
Favourite non-discworld work? I'd say Dark Side of the Sun

What PC races would you consider required for a D&D setting based on mythical Greece?
Satyr men
>>48927550
Humans, Satyrs, maybe Nymphs, Myrmidons and Dragon's Teeth Warriors.
>>48927550
Player races? Human only, maybe part-god.
Let the monsters be weird and cryptic, while humans are the reasonable familiar ones.
>Jerry accidentally opens up a portal in the middle of the adventuring guild. No one knows where it goes to, so Kramer and Newman make a pact with the king to dispose of all the city's garbage by tossing it in. In the end, it leads into the Elemental Plane of Earth, who somehow mistake George for flooding their entire dimension with trash

>"You find an unusual sword. It has a distinct magical aura to it."
>"Awesome! I want to research it."
>"It's a +3 longsword."
>"Where's it from? Who owned it? Why was it crafted? What is it called?"
>"Dude I don't know. It's just a +3 sword. Elves made it for the town guard a long time ago or something. Who cares?"
GMs: Do you name your magical items? Give them a backstory? Are they just misc loot?
Players: Do you care?
Player here, and not especially. I don't care about what happened to a weapon in the past, unless it directly intersects with my own backstory somehow.
I'm more likely to get attached to a mundane piece of equipment that's been through some personal shit with me.
>>48876501
The only time a player will get a generic +X sword from me (in 5e) is by slaying a legendary creature with their trusty weapon and it picking up magical attributes. +3 obviously has a deep history when it has taken the head of several creatures.
Discovered magical items are all named and given brief backstories just like my NPCs.
>>48876501
It depends on the group I'm playing with.
Some players care about that stuff, and some do not. I tailor my GM preparation to suit the players.
I always try to have random tables prepared though, just in case.
One idea I've used in the past is that characters in the setting actually acknowledge the pluses on weapons but refer to them as 'crosses'.
A +1 weapon is crossed.
A +2 weapon is double-crossed.
A +3 weapon is triple-crossed.
The crosses in this case are actually makers marks/magic runes etched into the weapon by its creator. The marks glow softly under certain conditions, making it easy to verify the authenticity of a magic weapon.
The Peace Keepers have demanded that the 3C deliver the black market arms dealer Richard Irving into their custody; as if throwing Irving to them was some act of penance to absolve the 3C of it's crimes rather than blackmail.
Still, at least they were paying, and a job is still a job...
>All pilots assigned to the Capture Irving mission please step forward and be counted.

Cable Guy: “The Peace Keepers have tracked Irving to a dockside on the island of Glaeos. Can’t say I’m surprised, that place has a reputation for being a hive of scum and villainy. This will basically be a mech sized sting operation; Irving’s hiding out in a warehouse compound where he stores his merchandise, a landing craft will take you up to the quay and you’ll rush in to bust down doors. There are five warehouses in the area and Irving could be hiding in any one of them. Being a black market arms dealer he probably has an escape plan. The intel department estimates you’ll have about 5 ‘turns’ –to use the tactical planning term- before he bolts.“
“Once you find him you can call in a helicopter to deploy infantry to apprehend him. Make sure the area is clear of AA units before you call the choppers in, you’ve only got 3 on standby. Now the warehouses will be stuffed with military hardware. The good news is Irving doesn’t have enough manpower to bring all of it online. He’s also leery about using his own merchandise to defend himself since it makes them ‘used’ and considerably lowers their sale value, but in the end he will start activating more and more units if you back him into a corner. If you bust down a warehouse door and find something you really don’t want to join the battle, call in a chopper and the infantry will make sure nobody tries to bring it online. Just remember to keep one squad in reserve to nab Irving.”
>cont
>>48844465
“Aside from whatever Irving has in his warehouses expect to fight drones and infantry since those units will be the fastest to mobilise. Irving’s goons are well equipped; they’ll have ATGM launchers and satchel charges in addition to their RPGs. However they’re just hired guns so they won’t fight to the last man. Gun one or two down and the rest of the squad should break. Now if you’re looking at that map of projected enemy positions and thinking you’re walking into a killzone, well… you’re not wrong. Take solace in the fact that the landing craft will launch a smoke screen once the mission starts. Other than that I’m confident that you guys can break through. That landing craft is cramped though so make sure you don’t stumble into each other when disembarking.”
>Please be aware that air support must be requisitioned by an officer BEFORE the mission starts in order for it to be available for the NCOs to call during the mission. Hiring an air support unit will make it unavailable for the other missions during this campaign turn.
>Additional intel may also be bought for 5 cred at this time.
>All costs may be payed later and deducted from mission payout.
>All pilots please post your deployment builds.

Why have I found this skirmish so late.
Why live.
What is the best D&D-like system that has decent combat and isn't obfuscating? I had planned on running a game with pic related but had heard here a while ago it wasn't great. I like the setting of Shadow of the Demon Lord, so preferably something that has or would work in that setting.
just run it m8, if you dropped every game /tg/ told you was bad there would be nothing left.
>>48959043
>What is the best D&D-like system that has decent combat and isn't obfuscating?
D&D 4e.
I mean, these are its two biggest selling points.
>>48959201
Is that really the best there is on offer, though? I thought 4e was by and large considered bad.
