My friend and I have been working on creating a rule set for tabletop Fallout. We have been play testing it for about 6 months now and would like to get some outside input on it. Drive link below.

How's the combat? Reading now
>>
>>49246216

Admittedly it can be a little slow to start up, but after the first few fights for my test group (little to no d100) experience, we've managed to go through it pretty quickly. A lot to take in at once, but once players have the basics memorized it only takes maybe a half hour to go through a fair-sized fight.

Awesome I've been interested in maybe DMing a fallout session with my party, this could actually let me get it done. I'll look through it and give some feedback later

Actually that reminds me: Is there a universal system that allows for reactions during combat, or is everything "Take turn, do standard action, move, swift/whatever, end turn."
I need something with more control and action during combat, not this shit that's stuck in the past.
>>
>>49223716
I use this when I want to run things on the fly: http://www.tao-games.com/high-quality-roleplaying/

It's a 1d6 system, the rules describe it as a generic fantasy, but it's so rules-lite that adapting it to anything is a piece of cake. It actually manages to get things right in a 1d6 system, changing the interpretation of the roll rather than settting a target number, so the system doesn't break down when players get a +2 bonus in such a narrow field of numbers.

I'm currently adapting it to a JoJo 1d6 system.
>>
>>49223716

Savage Worlds does combat well. Character creation is pretty simple and fast when you know what you want to do with it as well.

It doesn't handle roleplaying heavy elements well though. What I mean by that is Charisma checks and shit are broken as hell and should just not exist, if you want to get into character and spend a night barely touching dice and just acting like a bar crawling bard or something? It doesn't do that well at all.

It is combat and action focused and if that is your bag it is a great system if a bit wacky because of the exploding dice mechanic.

Fate is a pain in the ass. It isn't too difficult to understand but it is a total pain in the ass to keep everyone on the same page as to what their character can do, what enemies can do, and what the environment can do. The best Fate based game would probably be the Dresden Files RPG because the first session is the entire group establishing the universe, what does what, the roles they will have, people of interest, places of interest, and so on and so forth. It is collaborative world creation and there is a way to list it all and since the whole of the group was in on the creation of it everyone is on the same page. Unfortunately that work is just that, work. The first session is neat, but not fun in any real way.

Time to address some corrections:

>I don't know how A2 isn't dead.
Probably forgot to delete A2 when I was removing the FX for the enemy phase.

As a result haze can get back 4 HP and 1 charge of reactive armour.

>C1: Armour 3/4 HP 11/14
C1 would have lost one charge of armour from a botched siege cannon shot, but any HP loss should have been negated.

Next time take a PD turret, a Linebreaker's defence isn't all that great anyway.

By the way, you can't move 66666666, there's impassable mech wreckage in the way. I suggest you amend that to straight north.
Now then, before Malek gets here I have some tactical input:

NOBODY MOVE JUST YET

We need to carefully consider our moves and order our actions to get the most done before air support gets here. Remember, it's not just planes we ave to deal with; type C VTOLs are coming and they can not only hack, the have very powerful heavy lasers, the same model as the Summit packs, which makes them a big threat.

So all this in mind, here are a few options I'd like people to consider:

Just ignore the Crocodiles
The Crocodiles can do a lot of damage if they focus fire, but they can't move and shoot, so if you stay at least 7 away from them they're harmless this turn. And while we want to damage them as much as possible, we don't need them all down. With their numbers reduced they are a less considerable threat. The Nimbus has greater range and can act freely thanks to the pilot's training.

Next up,

>Haze
We could likely use your umbrella for the air assault. Advise you take a couple shots against whatever mech you like least and withdraw to the pioneer station for repair. You're the only one the Crocodiles can reach this turn.

>MGPs
Nihilus's already taken a shot, but I'm inclined to say ignore the western ones, Nkruma can handle both (or the remaining one, now). The eastern flank is more of an issue, I can only destroy one of them, then the other will finish me (the E will pierce my armour, the B is fast enough to get round back, shred my armour with its free gun attacks and finish the job with the cannon). So I could use a hand, ideally cluster missiles (in which case I'll advance on the double to join the main force) or artillery from Goose (in which case I'll finish off the other one and move on).

My very first character committed seppuku when her Shadowlands Taint reached critical level. Turned out meme suicide doesn't protect when you are cursed by Jigoku and she rose as an intelligent undead mere seconds after the ritual (this was her Shadowlands Power, to never die).

So there is an Utaku Battle Maiden sensei in the Unicorn lands, teaching her unique mounted archery technique to the young Battle Maidens, and wearing thick robes all the time to hide the fact that she is just a Taint-powered skeleton under the clothes.

If the story had continued, she would have been the BBEG of her very own adopted daughter (my next character).

Surprisingly, never. Whether that makes me a bad or a good l5r player I do not know.

Progress on Doji's rokugan setting: I've worked out what clan each family will be (46 clans in total in 108 provinces), a few of the major periods of minor clans being formed and the schools for each, though in some cases I'll be making original schools for various reasons.
I've also begun work on the idea of clan alliances, which would bring about reduced cost for the different schools advantage between those clans which are close together, as well as providing reasons for certain clans to work together.

This is probably the nerdiest board of all so I'm gonna ask you people

Why was nerd culture in the 90s so much better?
Was it because MTG was new and original?
261 posts and 30 images submitted.
>>
It was because you are remembering it either through rose tinted glasses or from the stories of those wearing said glasses
>>
>>49215863
Because nerds in the 80s were now old enough to land jobs in nerd industries such as cartoons, game design places like TSR, video game places, and toy making. The market was permeable enough to allow these friendly nerds to make extremely niche things for particularly cheap and sell them. It also helped that the internet was in its infancy, and news had to still essentially be hand delivered to most people, meaning that the market would focus on only the cream of the crop. Autism was also at an all time low, as bullying was still rampant, and those who got bullied had to work to develop their social skills or be excommunicated from the rest.

Now it's so bad because nerds who were raised in the 90s and 2000s were exposed to nerdy hobbies through third generation gap, after there was a massive anti-bullying movement that was going on around the time they were children, meaning that most of them only got into the nerd hobbies casually rather than as a means to escape and stress release. These same children grew up with their casual nerd interest into the markets and businesses that were catering to nerds in the 90s, ousting most of the old hats and installing their own ideals and believes that were formed without the social temperance of conflict.

They began to produce things that were designed to sell to the largest pool of people for the quickest dollar possible with only the barest amount of love put into the product. Thanks to things like the internet now being a global phenomena that was a part of required daily life, there is a new saturation of the market where hundreds of shitty nerd things are well known with no focus, doing just "good enough" to keep afloat and dilute the market. Autism in the new generation that we are currently referring to as "millennials" has now skyrocketed, largly thanks to the internet protecting people en masse from negative social interaction.

That's why.
>>
>>49215863
Hard to say if it was really "better". It was different though.
>fandoms spread by word of mouth
>obesity epidemic had not yet peaked
>middle class was stronger, so more time for leisure and frivolity
>computers were just transitioning from niche device to household necessity

Personally I wish I'd grown up with more internet access/information. My career and life outlook would have been a lot different, and I would have gotten to see a lot more possibilities than my little town and the retarded adults around me could offer.

>Question
Does body horror come up in your games?
323 posts and 29 images submitted.
>>
>>49214640
No It doesn't Mainly because....I don't think I've done it right in the past and instead of horrified my players were more "oh cool? Is it useful to me? How can I use this to my advantage?"

Now I posted a question right as the other thread closed...

How do you choose a good shadow name for a mage?

I've been trying to find a good one for my Arrow and so far I have:
Vengeance
Israfil (Name of an Angel)

Any good ideas on what makes a good shadow name and how to choose a good one would be appreciated.
>>
>Does body horror come up in your games?

Does it come up? Certainly; but I try to keep it infrequent otherwise it looses it's shock/disgust factor on the players and they might think they're playing a game based on 'my magical realm'.
>>
>>49214708
Depends what kind of Arrow.
I had an idea for an Obrimos arrow and basically chose a Military sounding/ action movie Nick Name.

I want to talk about this a moment, because I think too many people have gone way too far overboard with crazy weaboo vidya game logic.

See this guy?

This guy is armored.

About as serious as you can get short of full bomb-squad gear.

ALL THAT, and he STILL doesn't want to be fired upon. He cannot simply stand there and take it. He can take small caliber fire to the chest and be ok. And maybe even this guy's face because holy shit.

But do you see his hands? Above the elbow? above the knee? That's just cloth, maybe leather. Even a .22 long would go right through that and hit meat. And that would hurt like a son of a bitch. And a .223 placed on the center of that white helmet would be the end of him.

Armor saves your life and protects the vital parts as best as it can. And as long as you can get to a hospital in short order you'll live through it. But getting shot sucks. And getting shot at, even with this sort of gear, is still an OH SHIT OH SHIT OH SHIT scenario. Spraying bullets at this guy still has a chance of dropping or incapacitating him.

Your point being that animu stuff doesn't work in real life?

I'd have to agree because one is make believe. A lot of games don't use realistic rules because of most of the shit you've listed.

Creating a character you like and decking him out in the best armor you can get your hands on, only for some half level child soldier npc to kill him with a lucky head shot doesn't sound like fun.
>>
>>49207708
But there are factual stories of people being shot with rifle rounds and continuing to fight through will power and adrenaline.
Hell there was a civil war general shot in the back of the knee and went through a whole battle like that on horse back, he died later because he bled out, but he was shot with a musket ball, it all falls down to the person in question and the situation.
