I was incredibly aggravated by wun-wun in that episode. It's clear that the producers wanted to make a thematic battle focused on hopelessness and formation but they'd already gone so far as to show wun-wun wielding an enormous bow in prior episodes. They sent the heroes' single greatest tactical asset to his death for throwaway pathos when they could have got the same value by a pan over slain townsfolk in the courtyard or lopping off the giant's hand or arm. The battle could have been turned with a quickly made oversized cuirass and some ship nails through the end of a sapling or ended outright with a pike sized arrow pinning ramsay to the three guys behind him before his first shot could fall.

OP here, he was pretty much killed by Danys dragons, because they were so goddamn epensive budget cuts had to be made. I'm pretty sure that if the creators had made a pitch to the producers that Wun Wun was a fan favorite and could be kept on until a later emotional death moment that made more sense.

That and having him there and armed pretty much ruins the Battle of the Bastards big despair moment because he could have broken that pike phalanx on top of the shock and awe factor of a creature out of legend turning up on the enemies side.

Anima's magic system has all of the power that 3.PF's magic system has (and well beyond), but is relatively well-balanced because EVERYONE gets Crazy eventually.

It also has crazy shit like "Everyone will believe literally any lie you tell them that could be even remotely feasible", and "you can teleport between shadows", and "you literally become a God".

Ars Magica for crunch (lots of bits to play with, detailed spell/enchantment creation, no form is too weak or too strong, just specific), Unknown Armies for fluff (3ish types of magick, each has a narrative niche, plays well with making interesting characters).

People have confused the statistic ("most unoriginal settings are bad, therefore try to be original") with the actual cause ("more unoriginal settings are made without thought or care because shoving something original in TENDS DO cause the writer to explore that difference more fully").

See: Star Wars, where there's five million books about the Force down to what time of day it takes a piss, but all the stuff that's still generic sci-fi boilerplate is "Errr yeah, twi'leks are an entire slave race, because the twi'lek we saw in the movies was a slave."-tier writing.

Depends on how integrated it is and how easy he makes it to keep track of his snowflaking. If elves are mongols and it never comes up until you fuck a diplomacy check because of it, then he can get fucked.
But really, execution is what matters. LoTR is popular despite being a clusterfuck of cliches (that it caused, but still cliche now in THE CURRENT YEAR)

I like Fighting Fantasy and its ilk, so probably Fighter. As a rule, I don't like 'magic does anything effortlessly'. It's one of those things that I think you shouldn't need at all except for those rare situations where you need it badly.
I mean, it could just be me, but I think any of the three classes listed above should be able to 'solve' a dungeon with about the same rate of success. That's why I like the idea of 'Spells as Potions': You have some sort of guaranteed benefit that may influence your decisions, but it's not absolutely essential to your success and anyone can use them.

I like Generic Universal Monsters a lot for this.

Relatively safe spooks, an extra life option early on and an immunity to poison, disease, aging, dehydration and starvation.

Lot of the other options are pretty fun as well.

I get the vibe from the name that you'd get to peep each draw the cursed player makes. Honestly I think this is a bit too good. Scry 1 ain't much, but even fixing your top card repeatedly, for free, and with 100% certainty, is kinda nice. Might just need to be 1U.
