So this Saturday I'm going to play my first FATE game.

The only other tabletops I ever played before were GURPS, Cyberpunk 2020 and CoC 5.5. And despite playing for over a decade, I wouldn't call myself experienced player or even regular one.
The GM already more or less described us the basic premise of the scenario to make character ideas for it (we are a hired scouting party acting behind enemy lines in 1001 Nights-ish setting), I've send the idea to him (a bounty hunter) and...

... I have no clue what I'm up to. I never had any contact with FATE before, I don't even have the book for it and I don't know how to make characters for it. The GM said to be calm and he will have everything prepared, but I feel like I was 14 again and just learned there is such thing like TTRPG, so I'm going out of my mind of panic.

Any help, ideas and suggestions will be appriciated.

1. Relax. Fate is super easy, and you should worry more about your character than the system. It's a rather narrative game, so you can focus on the story rather than the mechanics.

2. The SRD is online. Just google Fate SRD.

3. Make sure you pick some good flaws, flaws you feel comfortable using against your character. They're the easiest way to get Fate points, and a flaw is pointless if you choose one you don't earnestly plan on using.

The book should be in the PDF share thread. As for advice, try to make your aspects dual-sided--both you and the GM will be using them to move the game along, so make sure both sides have something to work with. I remember one reviewer of FATE writing about the difficulty new players have with that, and his example was his attempt to write up aspects for Marvel's Thor. I don't remember all the iterations it went through (there were several), but I remember him deciding on one aspect being "Mjolnr, The Source of My Power." That wording was useful to both sides; the player could compel it to get a power boost and the GM could compel it to represent the PC losing the hammer and thus his power--a common plot device in the comic and movies. Another example could be "Divine Heritage"; that has obvious usefulness for the player, but the GM can also use it to drag the PC into a cosmic clusterfuck, introduce social/familial obstacles, and similar things.
>>

In FATE, you will have a better time if your aspects are VERY easy for everyone to understand and hang compels off of.
Don't try to cram deep internal conflicts and complexities into your aspects. Don't feel like you need to describe every aspect of your character via aspects. Don't fall into the trap of thinking that a flowery and intelligent aspect name is better than a 2 word cliche like 'Tough Guy' Don't think you have to create your character completely on first go. You can tweak aspect names every session as you get a feel for your character.

Do read the Fate book. Do read other players characters and talk to them about those characters to get an idea of them. Do suggest compels for your character and the GM- it's not cheezy, it's part of the game.

I like to have them as living embodiments of the forces of nature, primordial and destructive but not malevolent either. They are the most elemental representation of the wild places of the world.

Talislanta thread.

Talislanta is an exotic post-apoc fantasy world inspired by the fantasy novels of Jack Vance, and by other sources such as H.P. Lovecraft’s The Dreamlands, Michael Moorcock’s Elric novels, and The Travels of Marco Polo.

The game is set in a strange world of twin suns and seven moons that's overflowing with exotic peoples, places, and creatures. The time is the New Age, a Renaissance-like period 600 years after The Great Disaster, a cataclysm that marked the fall of the space wizards of the Archaen Age.

Talislanta has seas of glass, phytomantic bird-people, tattooed clone warriors, transmutation wizards who use quintessence to change storms into crystals, sindarans with two brains, warring cultists who have taken over entire nations, elemental demons, ice schooners running on glaciers, windships manned by astromancers, beastmen mutants riding two-headed mini-dragons, and a whole lot more stuff that's a combo of every prog-rock album cover you've ever seen.

All the books are free, legally: http://talislanta.com/?page_id=5

I'm making a late bronze age/early iron age setting and I've run into a problem: I want to create a caste of elite soldiers from a fanatical religious order that are supposed to have some of the most tank-like armor in the game, but plate mail seems a bit too advanced/out of place.

Any suggestions for what they might look like?

Also, any Bronze Age/early Iron Age art is appreciated

Or google Dendra Panoply. Alternatively the combination of big shields, good body armor and steadfast discipline already makes them "heavy" in the context of their age. Add some long spears as well.

What kinds of rooms / floors should a wizard's tower have?

Reckless nonsensical bullshit experiments that he's completely forgotten about.

A room full of pressurized sea water that, when opened, rushes out, expelling a small collection of sea life and revealing the entire room to be made of sponge.

A room that was set up in an elaborate ritual, with bells and mirrors and rotting reagents and some still-burning candles. It's all perfectly pristine, and on a table nearby are the molding scraps of someone's dinner. It's possible for the party to accidentally 'trip' the ritual by accident and activate it. It creates the same meal they found on the desk, already molded and rotten.

A room full of unblinking, unspeaking, completely nude simulacrums of famous and recognizable people, possibly the party themselves. They maintain eye contact to an unsettling degree, but never stand up from their positions or otherwise move. They make lewd noises if touched.

An entire floor dedicated to a tribe of constructs or kobolds or goblins who believe the wizard to be their supreme deity. They're a somewhat advanced farming society, preforming sacrifices to keep their population exact so they don't run out of food. They grow crops in repurposed containers, and breed common pests as livestock.

Off the top of my head:

>A large library would be the most obvious one, to house all manner of texts both arcane and mundane.

>A personal study, in which the wizard would keep things relevant to his current work.

>An alchemical laboratory or workshop, in which the wizard might create or test the properties of magical materials/artifacts, synthesize spell components, brew potions, etc.

>A large ritual chamber, suitable for summoning demons/djinn/whatever, or for performing large-scale spells.

>A store room, in which the wizard would keep spell components and alchemical reagents in bulk.

>An observatory, so that the wizard can keep track of the position of the stars.

>A dungeon, in which the wizard might keep captured magical beasts so that they might be studied, or captured people to be used in experiments.

>A solarium, which might also double as a greenhouse for certain arcane plants.

Don't forget to include more the more mundane rooms as well, such as bedchambers, dining rooms, a kitchen, larder, servants quarters, guard barracks, armory, foyer, etc.. The whole point of a wizard's tower is that they're mostly if not completely self-sufficient, and thus should have all the facilities necessary stand in their own.

Requesting an interaction between Mairsil(top left) and his right-hand man Barl similiar to the scene on the right.
Barl has no art depicting him but is described as
-a stocky (short), muscular man
-thin, neatly trimmed beard
-receding hairline
-sharp blue eyes
-dresses plainly, leather pants and ruffled white shirt
The first panel would be Barl saying "Mairsil, no." and right below it is Mairsil sticking a Sol Ring (bottom left) in his pants with a wild look in his eyes saying "Mairsil, YES!"
The ring needs to still be glowly/on fire or it'd kind of lose it's value.

Migrating again
Here is that additional reference again. https://www.artstation.com/artwork/W0k9N

I would like a picture of my two main wizards in my army for Age of Sigmar: Bubugullax the Balefiend and Zappzag the Shaman.
Bubugullax is a Fimir Balefiend like the creatures in the two screenshots provided above. They are reptilian cyclopian bog monsters roughly somewhere between an orc and an ogre in size, roughly 8 feet tall. He is lean muscled, as his focus is magic and not physical fighting. He has a smooth tail with an ornate hook-like blade attached to the end of it. I am aware the references have bony protrusions, but Balefiends are supposed to have smooth tails.
His robes should be much like the ones in the screenshots provided, made from several mismatched and tattered pieces of cloth, likely stolen or captured banners or capes from victims. He should be standing opposite of Zappzag, staring down at him with contempt.

Zappzag is a Night Goblin Shaman and as such he is much smaller but no less malevolent than his Fimir counterpart. He should have "ornate" robes with small animal bones interwoven into the fabric. He has a fancy hat much like the headshot provided. His staff is stolen from a Branchwych and "improved" upon with orcy sigils, animal skulls, and a metal Bad Moon crudely tacked onto the top. He should be staring daggers up to his Fimir counterpart. There is no camaraderie between the two, despite working for the same boss, as both are playing the long game against each other for power and the eventual take over of the warband.

Also, if you would rather just draw one of the two, go right ahead.

A big thank you in advance

He's half Asian half Caucasian, dark mid lenght messy hair, sharp features. Stats are Str16, Dex22, Con14 so he's pretty athletic

He traveled a lot during the campaign and his clothing should reflect that, he has wester pants (dark leathery), western boots. Middle easter belt (similar to Altair's from AC) witha thick rope around it and a beaded collar tied to it. A simple shirt and white with floral pattern Kimono jacket with short sleves and a hood on top

Middle picture is how he started (done by me ages ago), right is the closest I found around internet, left was a commision from almost a year ago that never got to be finished

If possible I'd like a dynamic pose

Thanks in advance"

>Marriage among the Dynasty, maybe.
More specifically, last thread had a pot or two about whether Dynasts marry for purely political reasons or whether personal feelings have their place as well. I seem to recall that in 1E at least elders of most Houses did pay some heed to the opinions of the potential spouses when it came to arranging marriages. This seems like a sensible thing to do, because marriage presumably works better both as source of new Dragon-Blooded and as a means of securing alliances and connections if the husband and wife don't hate each other too much. How do you guys think these things work or should work? Have you had marriage negotiations in your DB games, and if yes, did your characters have any say?
>>
>>55003866
I've been imagining them as heavily formalized courtships of "proper" candidates. The Dynasts parents select a group of suitable brides/spouses and arrange a formal meeting between the two with the other Dynasts parents. After meeting the potential brides/spouses the child (usually with a great deal of input from his parents) selects someone from that group to begin courting. After a short courtship the two Dynasts, barring severe problems between the two that would make marriage unwise, are engaged. Their parents and other family elders have a large influence at every step of this process advising and guiding them to someone they think will make a good marriage for the House and the child.

That would be the ideal at least. All to often Dynasts are all but sold off by their power hungry families to unsuitable candidates for political power. Widows and widowers often won't have parents or elders help them through the process of remarrying and they may be considered bad luck.
