I am designing an extremely overpowered sci-fi faction that will have their pride handed to them on a platter.

I won't give details about the above, but basically, I want to brainstorm the kind of enemies that this faction HAS beaten and therefore give them a history that justifies their overconfidence.

Said faction builds ringworlds regularly as if they were bridges. They have built multiple multi-star-core dyson ships. An ancient treaty by elder gods has granted them the gift to eventually master all physical phenomena. Reality cannot be bent against them, but it works both ways. They have colonized multiple galaxies. They're not as powerful as Time Lords or Daleks yet, but if it weren't for the final boss, they would reach there.

As a starter, this is the kind of enemies they've beaten, all through sheer conventional naval power - and they have managed to do this without breaking a sweat:
* Intergalactic devouring swarms not!Tyrannids
* Intergalactic infectious parasites not!Flood
* Extradimensional galactic-scale demonic invaders
* Sentient harvesters who use evolution as an experiment to find an answer to synthetic-organic wars not!Reapers
* Unwanted assimilators not!Borg
* Generic genocidal space nazis
* Rogue mining bots []not!BETA
* Kaiju

TL;DR: I need a resume for an overpowered faction that will get their shit kicked in. I would like help brainstorming the several kinds of enemies they've faced in the past and have made them hubristically overconfident.

Eye Rays for Eye Tyrants, sets of 10. Fun and interesting ideas. Maybe an alternative effect for the large eye as well.

Summons a dire rat wherever the ray lands. The rat has no loyalty to either side. Beholders with this power usually just eat the rat.

Instead of an antimagic field, it's an antimartial field.

Field of Enervation/Enfeeblement?

Eye rays: Each has an effect similar to the individual effect from Prismatic spells, so that's 1-7. 8, 9, and 10 should be modifier rays that the Beholderkin can fire into its rays to enhance the effects, such as an ectoplasmic metamagic modifier to hit incorporeals, an empowering metamagic modifier to increase damage, and the last would be a splitter ray that it fires along the other ray's path to increase the number of targets for the ray.

BONUS: The rays can be fired together and combined.

He comes with 4 hands for each of the two weapons you weren't meant to mix and match says so in the instructions.

The hands are easily magnetized anyway.

I am so fucking sick of selfish, scene stealing elitists. They always want to have their private, in depth, soul-searching narcissistic word diarrhea eruptions right in the middle of something important, like combat. Why exactly they gravitate towards ttRPGs instead of wandering over to their local shakespeare festival or some other conglomeration of shit where at least they wouldn't stick out like a sore thumb is beyond me, but they are the cancer that is killing games.

>Playing near future sci-fi totally not inspired by Star Wars campaign.
>Fighting the good fight, you know?
>New guy joins
>Wants to play a more conventional terrorist type, because he has to be edgy
>Has to whine about how his people were off hiding in the mountains and fucking each other's goats, because muh backstory
>Has to go on and on about how the bad guys we're fighting intervened for no reason and gassed his people's settlement
>Has to have special (but useless) weapons, instead of the guns the rest of us use, he's got a poison stinger installed in his mouth, and a CQC weapon; gauntlets that heat up and fry people, combined with a personal shield that isn't so great but sometimes lets him get into close range to use it.
>Winds up actually using a plasma rifle like everyone fucking else, but is terrible at it.
>Get mission to defend archeologists at some dig site, they might be uncovering something important which would attract the baddies.
>Keeps whining about how static defense in our situation is a terrible idea, we should just grab the eggheads and run.
>Instead of actually deploying, goes to talk to said scientists to try to get them to leave, now.
>GM shuts down that stupid shit.
>Send him off to scout the mountain, away from anyone else so I don't have to hear him talk.
>He finds some kind of transmitter, destroys it, baddies are spying on us.
>He keeps saying we have to leave immediately, before we get gassed or blown up by artillery or anything else the bad guys have.
>We get attacked.

So I know 'The villain thinks he's right' has been done to hell and back, but what would your party do if they found out that your main enemy's whole plan was for some sort of attempt to take back the life he feels he had stolen from him or to make sure at least a few people are saved from living lives like he did?
Say, I don't know, a hardass settlement leader in the apocolypse who has a strict curfew and harsh rules with severe punishment but actually just wants to make sure nobody questions him so the children in his settlement can grow up in safety and have enough to eat because he never did?

So he wasn't a cartoonish all evil cardboard cutout of a person. Maybe that'd bother you if you wanted to pretend you were the all good and utterly infallible protector of everything kind of hero while brutally murdering shit left, right and centre. But if you aren't wallowing in that kind of nonsense, why would something like this bother you? All the mooks you chopped up like it was a Cold Steel commercial to get to this guy probably had just as good justification for their actions.

But I guess plenty of people do want to have all the blood run off them like water off a goose so they can pile up the corpses and still be the shining hero, or there wouldn't have been much of a puddle for Spec Ops to make a splash in.

Any advise on where to get decent scenery at a price that is better than GW stuff? And just general scenery advise, basically where to start when designing good scenery adn such. Looking for things for both fantasy and 40k.

EBay
Just type in 40k Terrain and you will be golden
>>
Just do what people did get styrofoam, tubing, mesh and plastic card and make it all yourself.
Thats what the GW studio used to do and it was their best scenery.

Much of the FB scenery I've seen looks like model RR furniture, and more suited to dioramas imo. For 40k, war-torn battlescapes are de rigeur, so L-shaped ruins with improbably small spots of rubble are as common as pie tin craters - and both are virtually free. Even at GW prices, one gets four scenery pieces out of every intact building so, while it's still no bargain, it's less insulting than their prices for 28mm light infantry figs - and I say that as someone who's never been a GW employee. Most scratch built scenery employs templates printed-out and incorporated into the design. If you're not dangerously inept, there's really nothing simpler.

Have fun!

Bjorn from the space wolves is the oldest living SM left. Personally knew more than one primarch and saw the emperor in person.

There is also the Lamenters dreadnaught who thinks he is the last of his chapter and dedicates himself fully to the deathwatch.

Murderfang from the SW, There is another deathwatch dread who is a huge douche but was cool to read about.

I can think off of the top of my head a story about a furioso dreadnought as well but cant remember the name. He was kind of a beast if I remember correctly. Whatever, just got to 1d4chan and start with the dread article, work your way from there.

By mutual agreement, our long time group is going to check into some other games.
Basically only played d&d since 91. 2ed and 3.5.
Lots of fun, some great times, but it's time to do something different.
We will each pick 3 ttrpgs, and check them out, talk them over, then we will pick one and start buying books.
So far, I want to discuss aces and eights, and whispering vault.
Any other ttrpgs that you would recommend?
We're trying to avoid anything that is too d&d fantasy. And it must have books. Not PDFs. Actual fucking books. No magic realm bs either.

Suggestions tg?

Wild Talents. The GM has to put in restrictions and guidelines to balance out the custom powers, but everything else in there is stuff I wish I had known about earlier.
>>
Starfinder is fresh and new. although basicalky Pathfinder IN SPHESS with bullshit gender non binary androids and gender fluid ayylmaos.

The setting is itself is fine and has things that make it different from Pathfinder like how weapons have ranks at which you can use them so you know what upgrades comes when for your weapon. There's techno-magical bullshit that can be done to PCs, NPCs and your surroundings. You can make spaceships customized to your liking or get pre-built ships.

Actually implying that none of them would play BattleTech.
Fucking havon' the GALL to say that that none of them, NONE OF THEM, would pick up the little figurines and pretend to play with them.

Depends on your budget and how complex you want to get.
>Free STLs are available on DriveThruRPG MyMiniFactory and Thingiverse.
>Paid better quality STLs are available on DriveThruRPG, Thunder-Chrome and Heroforge.

Once you've done that you can download blender and start modifying them to carry different weapons or copy pasting bits from other models to make new ones.
>>
>>55280881
Actually just go to HeroForge, create an account and go to My downloads. There's a Paladin and an Explorer model you can download for free.

so /tg/ I've been trying to come up with a sort of elements wheel for a setting. what i'm trying to do is a space version of the typical natural elements that make up a world, the typical fire water earth and air set up.
but I'm having to trouble coming up with what would be relevant to a space civilisation.
the only ones I'm really set on would be gravity and maybe stars but that's about it.
does anyone have any ideas?
5 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Fire > Light
Air > Air, since unless they no longer have lungs, air is still important
Earth > Metal
Water > Water, since star travelers would probably rely on water to see if a planet is habitable
>>

Gravity, space time, matter, dark, energy, heat, light
