What ruleset does /tg/ recommend for a fantasy setting in the Early Modern technology level, say the mid 18th century? And how do you handle black powder muzzle loaders? I want to make them useful but don't want to handwave their 15-20 second reload time and difficult, intricate process. Should I just advance it to single shot cartridge-using breech loaders even though they're an anachronism for the time period (industry may not be able to properly support them as a common infantry weapon)?

Yeah it is a good thing. Because then we would have quests AND this bullshit. I'd rather have 1 than both

Where to start with Batman?

Is there any gritty run similar to Marvel's MAX?

How often are there criminals who have some realistic goals like drug dealing, organ harvesting and human trafficking? I'm not a big fan of villains who want to conquer the world for the sake of it and I always imagined Batman to be more street level rather than dealing with aliens and such.

What are some of your favourite combat resolution systems?

I was playing dead of winter the other day; and basically, your characters have a threshold required to perform an action (e.g. attack: 3, search: 5, barricade: no minimum), and you roll a pool of die. You roll the pool once per turn can spend the die how you see fit (assuming the result is above the threshold). I was a good simple mechanic for resolving the actions of multiple characters controlled by a player and it meant that you did things beside attacking every turn.

It got me thinking about other way of handling combat and actions, outside of the classic cast a spell or roll to hit. Have you encountered any systems that you’ve really liked from pen and paper, war game, board game or other?

>Over many long, long years, Humanity grew. Blossomed and spread.
>They built their palaces of steel and crystal, forged their own paths through the great darkness unknown. They crafted massive constructs that could take to the very heavens beyond to seed new worlds. And yet still despite all this, they found no signs of anything other than themselves.
>Many amongst them asked: "Why is this so? Why have we found none other in this lonely dark? Are we truly alone?"
>This thinking had dictated much of why they decided to Pierce the stars on high, and to take off to scour the cosmos. To venture out to find any sign that would say that "No, We are not alone. There is something here, a purpose, a spark".
>Over time however, the thoughts that theyou would ever find anything that could be considered as 'alive', and as filled with 'purpose' as they were. They became disillusioned with the very notion of there being life across the stars, and decided to expand and build wherever they could, to make themselves the sole rulers of a dead cosmos.
>They thought that they were truly alone in an empty void, bereft of even a singular flame of lice. That there was nothing more to the space beyond.
>Unbeknownst to them, their cries of anguish and despair were heard.

>It came.
>What it was, few truly know, but It came, and it brought with it the unraveling of all humanity had built.
>Where once stood palaces of glittering crystal, of steel and ivory, nothing remained except channel houses and ash. Where once stood glorious thrones upon which grand-emperors would dictate their laws and truths upon the masses and they would openly proclaim their rule to all, only broken remnants lingered. Where there were once great-courts in which the many minds of man could come and debate amongst themselves as to how to develop and grow their might, only shattered seats of power stood amongst the ruins of once-great power.
>This all-devouring Shadow, this abyssal intelligence swept through the granday empire of Man, and reduced it all to naught more than dust in an instant, paving it's way towards the crown-jewel of it all, Earth.
>The people screamed, the royals and would be god-kings despaired, and even the brightest minds of understanding that they held no answers to this chaos.
>All was as ruin across the stars of Humanity, and Earth found itself now under the gaze of this blighted force, this Infernal process that drank deep of the despair and Sorrows of Mankind.
>Even amongst all the other worlds that It had ocnsumed, the Earth was particularly 'savoured', not utterly destroyed, but enjoyed as how a great-duke or lord would partake themself in a feast, relishing each piece of food they decided to put into their hungry maws. .
>And thus, when the dread Shadow had its fill, It left, leaving a charred waste behind, full of the now desolate works of Mankind, and the Broken souls of the few survivors that remained.

It's a festival of death and rebirth. Spring has come, the dead are buried, and renewal is on it's way.

Lanterns hang in every window, and at sunset, they will be lit with the sacred flame of the local temple, in a long procession of each household marching it in, dropping off or picking up a donation (for whoever needs it most, for the new year) and proceeding home.

Then the ruckus begins! Driving out the wicked spirits with choruses of bawdy songs, consumption of heady spirits, and bonfire roasting of long wintered meats

What is the best rpg or toolset to create your own rpg? the most used is the d20 system but i think that is because is the most known and is easily changeable, but there are others like brp ore gurps that are used to create other systems

Powered by the Apocalypse is a pretty easy engine to make your own stuff with, once you've got some experience with it at least.
>>
>>55418981

There is no single best RPG. Different games are good at different things, and this even applies to generic systems. They'll always have things they do better and things they do worse.

Instead of asking for the best RPG, tell us more about what you're trying to do.

Has it ever happened to you that after having a dream or a nightmare you find yourself with quite some material to build a campaign?

I'll share on for starters, because it's very long and i know that you gallan/tg/entlemen love your storytimes.

I had got a year or so ago a fever that had reamined on stable 41*celsius for more than 24 hours, so I had been in constant pain all the day, while in an agony all night.
I had been reading Metro 2034 the last few days so it was still firmly in my mind and I guess I got asleep at some point, and the dream is really a Khan-worthy sequence:
I "woke up" in the middle of a dark corridor in the metro, alone, and drowning in silence, literally I couldn't hear a single sound, and then, out of nowhere, I started to feel that sensation you have when you know someone is sneaking up on you.
But still there was no sound.
I had a flashback from the book when Artyom had one of those trippy encounters in the dark, and decided that instead of trying to punch the presence I could talk with it. I remember I slapped the air 'till I managed to get a hold on one of the tubes that cover the electric cables (said tubes in Metro are said to be carrying the voices of the dead past) and made it ring and started to scream at the top of my lungs (my brother, who sleeps in the room right besides mind said he heard me bumbling incomprehensibly at some moment) something among the lines of "IM YOUR FRIEND, PLEASE, DONT HURT ME, I WANT TO HELP YOU, PLEASE, LET ME HELP YOU, YOU DONT HAVE TO DO THIS, YOU CAN BE FREE FROM THE METRO!" And actually felt a sensation like a crowd flocked around me to listen to a speech.
It was beyond terrifying.
And yet it was relieving too.
Like I had a realisation that kindness can be met with kindness.
What happened exactly after I can't remember, bc from here on I remember some broken bits.

I remember a piece where I was sitting beside a campfire and retelling the story of Jesus, emphasising on his mercifulness and his belief that everything can be redeemed and can go to heaven, all the while I was seeing the shadows of the souls, children and adults, sitting all around me and listening.

This one I supposed happened after I had become to be known as the Shepherd, as I was wandering on the surface, without a gas mask, feeling the benevolent souls of the dead protecting me.
I meet some elite Red soldier or some shit, and I must have loooked horrifying trough the soul-bubble, as his first action is to open fire on me.

Now, in Metro is stated that people instantly die when the souls of the dead start behaving aggressively against a living human, as literally your soul is ripped out of your body.
So I was absolutely freaked out when I saw the souls jumping straight at the Red soldier and screamed at the last second "NO!"

The souls stopped at the last moment moment, before making contact with the poor man, that was still clenching his hands around his rifle, still pulling the trigger, and I could see streams of tears of terror coming down from his eyes.
"FORGIVE HIM! Only with forgiveness can you redeem yourself!" And then I said to the soldier "Come here" as we started to walk to each other.
When we were face to face I hugged him and fucking hell I wish I could have been on the receiving end of that hug, because his looked then at me in the eyes and he looked like they were seeing the Truth or something, then there are some confused moments, and after that I see him giving me a hug, turning around and go towards the nearest entrance to the Metro, having an aura in a fashion that might suggest that he had become my disciple or something. After that I turn to the souls, and say something among the lines of "You understand".

Then they disappear.
Like that.
I'm left alone.
All the presences that I felt a second ago were gone.
And yet I felt something was still wrong in Moscow.
It weren't the souls that I hadn't freed yet. Nay. It was something far more dangerous and strong.
It was the Cremlin.

(to make things clear: in the Metro universe the commie stars where disguised pentagrams made by the great warlock Lenin and the great red stars on the Cremlin should be the place where the lords of the demons resided)

This also made Glukhovsky present WWII as a sort of battle between sorcerers, as Stalin was using the power of the demons VS Hitler who was using the power of the Sun with his swatikas

When I went into the Cremlin I found the blobbish monster that Artyom and some stalkers found on the way to D6 and started talking gibberish as I if I was casting magic against it, the battle soon took the aspect of a clash of wills, with neither me or the evil blob of evilness gaining the upper hand.

Then others blobs appeared and slowly started to merge with one another to overwhelm me, and I could feel the stars of the Cremlin glowing.

I don't know why in my mind I decided that those blobs where the incarnation of the demon lords, but still, I had a very strong fever

At some point during the clash of wills, right about when I was starting to be overwhelmed by the demon blobs the souls reappeared and started helping me.

At this point I was phasing in and out of consciusness, in I seem to remeber I was crying of happiness and mubling something like "I'm so happy you all came back" and then with a last final push the demon blobs vanished, and the grey skies got istantly clear and the sun finally started to really shine on dead Moscow.

Then the souls start to glow and go out in a flash of light, making me understand they were finally free for real.

And this is how it ends the story. Or so I remeber , because, again, 41 degress of fever are no joke, and have some broken memories of other adventures I had as "the Shepherd" as the metro-dwellers came to call me.

>Walking trough the metro, not knowing in which direction
>The souls with me are few, so the adventures of the Shepherd must have just begun.
> Start hearing noises coming from all aroun me
> Can't see anything because it's dark in the tunnels and I was walking relying on my guts
> The noises increase and become ever more clear, revealing that I'm being surrounded by mutants
> Some try to attack me, the souls immediately kill them, others just stand there sniffin loudly in my direction and yet others start running away as soon as they get close to me.
> I just sit down and decide I'm fed up with the darkness
> Let's light on fire something
> I manage to light on fire something, can't remember
> I don't know whether I was more scared to see the litteral tide of mutants surrounding me
> Or were they scared of the sudden light and the crazy distorsion the souls gave to it.
> After some seconds of me standing perfectly still the mutants run away
> It flashes in my mind an advice Melnik gave Artyom "Rats are wherever it's relatively safe to stay, if there are no rats, turn back and run away, because you don't want to know what's there"
