No idea, MC first edition was damn good. And also had useful splat books for its time. It was a game not focused on balance as much as it was developing fleshed out characters to help you get immersed in the wonderful fluff they had written around it. A big part of character creation was rolling to see how experienced your character was at start of play, sort of like Twilight 2000 did it for number of terms in the military you had before the start of the war. Also the game played very different based on the types of characters. If a party was all Brotherhood, it turned into heretic purging porn. Doomtrooper/mixed corp type games became murder hobos taking it to space.

2nd ed I do not know. 3rd, even less so.

I'm quite a fan of both MC3 and Modiphius' 2d20 systems in general, so I'm a little biased. I've no idea what it's like compared to the earlier editions.

It can be quite lethal, but, for the players they're heavily dependant on Momentum, unlike the Conan game, which allows them to 'buy' Momentum with Doom/Dark Symmetry.

My group is suffering from a little dark futuristic setting fatigue at the minute, so I've not had as much a chance to run or play it as I would have liked, but I really rate the little I've played.

Ascertain whether the party cleric/medic/whatever knows how to deliver a baby. If they don't, try to find a hireling who can.

Otherwise it's just like protecting any NPC with a low con score and a large... targeting silhouette

Well okay that too. But what I'm specifically talking about is the woman just being pregnant, no where near to delivery. Just that you and or your party must prioritize in protecting the preggers woman out of the sake of good heartedness.

How pregnant?

I mean, 2nd trimester, Anon is right. Just like protecting any NPC.

But 3rd trimester? Every little part of the journey suddenly becomes a challenge. She's tired all the time. Walking a mile is genuinely hard. Constant agony as her hips spread to accommodate a baby.

More or less, it becomes a matter of trying to mitigate all of the problems that pregnancy brings, IN ADDITION TO keeping her from taking ANY HP-VALUE of damage.

Depends on a lot of factors.

How 'free' are these cities? Do they have a charter with the Monarch? Can they build their own fleets? How friendly is the current Monarch with these other kingdoms?

Will this alliance last until the pirates are eliminated or longer? Have these cities ever rebelled before? How long have they been in the Empire? Just how bad are these pirate attacks?

I guess it is ultimately up to how much control the Monarch has over them. If we're talking HRE Imperial Free Cities then he doesn't have that much power over them and raising a big stink over them negotiating on their own may keep them in line, but cause him more problems then it would be worth.

Presuming regular feudalism, I suppose not. Under the feudal system a liege provides protection to his vassals, who in turn assist the liege in both deed and council. The king wouldn't be too fond of his vassals siding with the vassals of a foreign liege to regulate their own protection, undermining the authority of both lieges in the process.

The real question is if the monarch is in any position to stop them. That depends on how large the territory the king rules is. Given that we're talking about the HRE here, this is a very complex situation. First of all, we're dealing with dozens if not hundreds of duchies, bishoprics, free cities and the like that are only symbolically organized under the emperor, except for the territories that the emperor rules directly. Secondly, even within the territory the emperor truly rules as duke, he still has his own vassals there as well as his own demesne. His power within his de facto territory depends on the loyalty of his "internal" vassals as well as the size of his demesne, and the extent of his "external"/in-empire power depends on the extent of his 'internal"/in-duchy power.

So if the only territory the emperor truly owns is a small duchy in bumfuck nowhere with three counts who are each about as powerful as he is as vassals with no intent of obeying him when he asks for soldiers, good luck stopping those free cities all the way on the other side of the empire. At best you can write a very angry letter the mayors of those free cities will use to wipe their boots.

Also why does the HRE speak French? Is this an alternate universe in which Philippe Auguste failed to keep his vassals in line and greatly increase the demesne of the monarchy to the point of making its supremacy within France unquestionable?

Have you ever really listened to "The Ballad of Baron Bastage"? Of course not, it's garbage. Half the lines make no sense, the rhyme scheme is awful, and nobody ever gets the second verse right.
So why is it so popular? Because, depending on which line is skipped or which words are mixed up, that song can mean anything from "The western Empire is building its armies up for an attack" to "The beloved princess has slain another suitor because he figured out she likes women".
Of course, you need to know what to listen for, and most don't. But when you need to deliver a message to that shadowy figure in the back without anyone catching on, it's a good song to use.
But I digress. You and your fellows are going to investigate the ruins to the south, yes? I would like to accompany you. There are quite a few people who would like to know about them, and I'm willing to cut you in on their generosity."

Now, as any good adventurer would in this scenario, I quickly slashed at his feet to unbalance him, but the savage was faster than I had anticipated and jumped over my blade! Undeterred, I immediately threw my shoulder into his chest, tackling him to the ground and knocking the wind out of him!
As I readied to silence his war chant with my blade, Jarvis placed a hand on my shoulder and attempted to pull me back! Good on you for trying, Jarvis! I almost moved that time!
My manservant then quickly explained to me that the war chanting was merely a foreign dialect of Elven, and the tribesman had been praising me for my skill in slaying the beast.
After laughing the misunderstanding off, I took the carcass to the Elf's village, where we feasted upon wolf meat and strange fruits with marvellous hallucinogenic effects, and left a week later having advanced Science by leaps and bounds, I am told!
My next expedition takes me to the frozen southlands, where there are tales of hares the size of elephants! Will you join me?"

Well for one: work within the framework of Starfinder. Bringing a Pathfinder class over to Starfinder is not a trivial matter.

Interesting concept. You could use an unseen servant to do it. In combat it'd be a standard action to cast, but I believe it could be made permanent.

If the point of your game is to differentiate characters mechanically, then you might as well go all out and have as many different options as you can cram in there.

Best prestige class is exemplar.

Just go with 2020, it doesn't take itself too seriously. Always remember style over susbtance. Maybe Nomads are rebelling against the "man and technology. Player characters as thinly veiled indian stereotypes with body modifications to go with their totem animals, Gun servitors are just people who owe companies too much money. Make corporations almost cartoonishly evil. Alternatively you could make acpa campaign, players are noble mech "knights" fighting against evil corporate cyborgs.Basically just ditch the whole "gray" morality-system and make it even more over the top than usual or go full angst-nihilist-dog-eat-dog-world where everyone is an asshole, sun never shines and players are doublecrossed by everything and everyone.
