I want to see how bad this system really is in play. Don't expect it to be the world's greatest game.

I'm in a huge mood to play some sort of Digimon game. I'd have to learn the system since I've never played one before though.

Does your campaign setting have a Golden Age that the people look back to?
It seems like quite a lot of people in the Middle Ages and Renaissance were looking back to the Roman Empire and trying to recapture the knowledge and might of the ancients. As I understand it, the whole idea of looking to the future for a golden age instead of the past came with the Enlightenment Era. Since many RPGs seem to be set in a medieval-style world, it makes sense to have a "Rome" to look back to. What's yours?
>>51771748
Once the entire universe was a towering giant.
Do you want me to tell you the rest?
>>51771748
Most people blame the residents of the "Golden Age" for the shitty state that the world is currently in. The only ones who don't were alive at the time and know why things went down the way they did.
>>51771850
Someone crashed a plane into it?
With an empire that rivals the size of the Imperium's, advanced technology and inmense numbers, why aren't they a major player in the 40k universe? Granted, they don't have Warp travel, but neither do the Tau.
>>51770749
Nids already exist.
Can't have two factions of bugs. That would be confusing.
Only room for one bug faction
>>51770749
>an empire that rivals the size of the Imperium's
They're semi-canon fanfiction, that's why.
How much of an improvement would it be if dwarves were replaced with draphs?
I love me some nipponese cartoons and such, but they should probably never touch western fantasy. So no, there would be no improvement.
>>51769240
It would be a huge one.
Of course, that also depends on how you would fit them into your world and flesh out their culture but really, dwarves being something else than Scottish miners and clones of Gimli would be nice. I like the company from Hobbit movies because their designs were pretty distinct for traditional, tolqienesque dwarves. Also, horned, short and extremely busty but with sensible proportions is one of the best combinations.
>magic is a substance/energy instead of being a craft
I know you're gonna try to legitimize this because I'm OP so you're supposed to disagree with me, but you know it's still bullshit.
There's plenty of names for the generic bizarro-electricity some people insist upon calling "magic"
names such as
-mana
-vril
-odic force
-tejas
-ki
-the magnetic fluid
and anything you can make up
sure it sounds kinda tryhard but at least it's not outright fucking wrong, and it's the kind of technical term a wizard would use, whereas a non-wizard wouldn't even have a reason to refer to it.
>>51769096
The craft is spellcraft.
Magic is the force, the energy.
It's not hard, OP. I can tell you half-realize you're on shaky ground because otherwise you wouldn't have posted that pathetic prememptive damage control.
>>51769096
Depends on the setting
>>51769226
This.
The way I run it in my setting is:
Mana = the energy required to fuel a spell. Without mana, nothing happens.
Spellcraft = the art of creating and casting spells, as a wizard would.
Channeling = the art of letting divine power through your soul into the world, without dying from the strain, as a priest would.
Augury = the art of reading the shifting conditions of Nature(tm), drawing on ley lines and similar to control the elements, as a druid/witch/shaman would.
Magic = peasant word used for all of the above.
/tg/, I met my girlfriend through a Fading Suns group my friend runs. Problem is, another girl in the group's character and my character (F human and M Ukar respectively) clearly have some unresolved sexual tension going on. Aside from the in-universe ramifications, how fucking awkward would it be if our characters started banging?
I'll answer your question after we bang, OP
>>51768867
Very, but you already knew that, and this entire story is a fabrication.

What software do you use to make maps?
If this is for an online game then I just drag and drop assets into roll 20 and use that. It's a good map making tool even if you don't use the website, just take screenshots and use those.
For tabletop I own a rather large grip map that I can use whiteboard markers on, so I just rough draw whatever I've drawn in my grid book
For world/continent maps, I use Inkarnate (google it, I'm afraid to post links). Donjon has some good dungeon map generators with optional random encounters per room via the DMG, and Roll20 is a good supplement to those or to make special shit from scratch like >>51767216 said.
I've been wanting to learn how to use Tiled because it looks useful, but documentation is scarce and good tilesets are hard to find. RPGmaker would work similarly, but have similar problems.
If you're playing online, it's useful to know that R20's grid size is 70px. Also, learn to use the Align to Grid function to import your maps, it'll smooth things over by orders of magnitude.
>>51767198
For my dungeon maps I use dungeonographer
For the rooms I pop into roll20 I use Gimp and make map "tiles". If I ran 4e or a dungeon crawl game I would probably do this irk.
For my city maps I use hexographer or just wing it
>Setting with four elemental embodiments
>embodiment of air is Chaotic Good
>embodiment of water is Neutral Good
>embodiment of earth is Lawful Neutral
>embodiment of fire is Chaotic Evil
This is how elemental embodiments should be. Nobody should make them otherwise.

>Ever being anything besides chaotic neutral, never mind them being LAWFUL.
Explain your shit tastes, OP.
>fire
>chaotic evil
>air
>chaotic good

>neutral good
Depends entirely on the culture m8. Though I gotta say earth is pretty consistent across cultures with its characterization.

Guys I'll be late for Terra Sub-edition
Last thread we talked about how to paint minis like candy, speculated about the missing primarchs and explained how the Siege of Terra made sense. Or how teleporters and space battles fuck up our medieval warfare treaties. We also tried to fix champions, but they were killed by snowflakey special characters, which in turn were killed by Scoria, who is sort of good at melee. All of that, and more in the last thread >>51756396

> Zelthen the Shining One is a God of Light, Order, and Purity. He is on an eternal crusade to destroy all Darkness, Chaos, and Corruption, and replace all of reality with an infinite realm of eternally unchanging, incomprehensibly pure light. He is commonly depicted as a righteous golden warrior wearing plate armor forged of light itself, and a golden sword and shield forged of light itself.
> Zelthen's followers are few, but they are unshakable fanatics, obsessed with destroying all things, so that they can be remade in Zelthen's image. His followers are often extremist Paladins whose radical views alienated them in the eyes of their Order. His followers believe that the only way to worship Zelthen is to cleanse the "taint of evil" with holy fire in his name. In their eyes, any amount of the "taint" must be destroyed, because all "evil" is equal, and until the world has been cleansed of ALL "evil", no matter how minor, all things are corrupt and will never be whole.
>Stacy is the Goddess of beauty and vanity. Most of her followers are prostitutes who seduce one man, tell him that she's in love, leave him for another and continue.
>>51763845
>Balim, the two faced god, a minor diety of households used by families to watch over the house and keep gremlins from sneaking in.
>Alternatively worshiped by soldiers. Very often a soldier will use part of their salary to purchase a figurine of Balin, hoping he will watch their back in battle, especially if they expect someone to doublecross them.
>>51763845
>Kurik, the trickster god. Responsible for many natural phenomenon, and patron of Lucky and/or chaotic entities. His champions and priests are rogues and bards.
He wishes to woo Lady Luck.
>Gods are made of mana, like humans are made of matter.
Does this sound too scientific for fantasy?
>>51763272
>>Gods are made of mana
Can you eat them?
THEIR MIDICHLORIANS ARE OFF DA CHARTS
>>51763272
Sounds like it's way to easy to kill Gods once someone learns to store and absorb vast quantities of magic.

What is your favouite mythical creature?
I personally love the concept of the Phoenix. A stunning combination of interesting, majeatic, and dangerous if used right.
Yes, phoenixes are great. I also like griffons, an likewise majestic creature that you can actually pet.
you can't go too far wrong with a well done dragon
