Do animals have other neurotransmitters than humans?

Terence McKenna talks about how the neurotransmitter that is equivalent to serotonin in magic mushrooms is psilocybin. Does this mean that if we gave mushrooms serotonin they would "trip"?

are there facial features that correlate to higher intelligence? pic related is one of the smartest men in the world

He thinks that a big head is correlated to a higher IQ.

At least, across species, having a largely proportioned brain (compared to your body size) correlates with intelligence (e.g. dolphin, human, and chimpanzees have large brains relative to their body size while elephants don't).

Speculating, I think his belief is probably somewhat correct, but the difference among humans is less noticeable and less consistent.

PLEASE HELP ME SEND A MESSAGE TO MY PAST SELF A LIFE IS AT STAKE

Its easy, build a source that emits particles (tachyon or whatever the fuck that was) that go backwards in time, along with a detector next to it to catch it, then modulate it (OnOf-Keying or some shit). The triqy part is figuring out where the detector has to be placed because of earths rotation.

1. The reflectance R (perpendicular) for the separation surface between a refractive index medium n and the vacuum is 0.15 when the angle of incidence coincides with the polarization angle (also called the Brewster angle). Determine the value of n.

2.At the separation surface of a refractive index medium n with vacuum, the reflectance R is 0.04 when the incidence is normal thereto. Determine the value of the R (perpendicular) reflectance at the angle at which the R (parallel) reflectance is negated.

3. A linearly polarized laser beam perpendicular to the plane of incidence and of 0.1 W / cm2 of intensity is incident on the central point of the flat face of a glass hemisphere (n = 1,52). Determine the I intensity emerging by the spherical surface of the hemisphere when the laser beam is incident under the polarization angle (or Brewster angle).

4.The rotary power of a solution of sucrose in water (1 g of sucrose per cm3 of solution) is 66.45 ° per 10 cm of trajectory traversed at 20 ° C for the wavelength of a He-Ne laser (λ = 632.8 nm). If a linearly polarized laser in the vertical direction strikes the end of a 60 cm long tube, how much has the direction of polarization of the ray emanating from the other end of the tube rotated, knowing that it contains 500 cm3 of solution, Which 20 g are sucrose?

Does /sci/ have any recommended telescopes for astronomy students?

I don't really have a budget but I don't need anything too extreme.

What do you expect from a telescope?

Anyway, Orion Dobsons are pretty fine, XT8, 10, 12 or something depending on your budget.
>>
Haven't got one yet but been looking into them (har har) and decided on a Celestron Nexstar 4SE.
>>
>>8604971
I'm familiar enough to be able to make recommendations, but first I'd need to know what your goals and knowledge are.
Are you familiar enough with the sky that you can find constellations? Planets? See sky objects?
Do you intend to do any photography with it?
What's your budget (I assume about $500 from your preliminary choice)?
Do you live under a dark sky (can see the Milky Way), or do you intend to travel to one to use it routinely?

Hi /sci/
Is there a book out there on logic, that doesn't use set theory or anything and builds every notion of logic from 0? I checked Mendelson's book, and it starts by talking about truth tables, which are functions, and the definition I know of a function uses set theory. Some other books I checked feel like they are designed for enginners/CSfags.
Also PDF is required since I'm poor.
Thanks.

>>
>>8604959
I think truth tables aren't functions
if you're going to study logic you need to forget what you know about set theory, and just accept the primitives for what they are
>>
>>8604959
Principia mathematica. It takes russell over eight hundred pages to get to 1+1=2

>that doesn't use set theory
why not ?

>builds every notion of logic from 0
You do realize that it's not possible right ?

Can anyone actually PROVE that time and space are real entities?
Think about it. Why does "time" need to exist? The world is just a big open space with chemical reactions happening. What we call "time" is just a series of events we witness.

And as for space, people always say it's expanding. WHAT is expanding? Reality? That doesn't, on it's own, make any sense.
Space is not an entity, it's the ABSENCE of particles. Right?
Nothingness isn't expanding into nothingness.
I'd argue that space, as it is, always existed, and didn't have a beginning. The big bang, however, or whatever caused all the particles and gases to spread occurred within space. But reality itself must have always existed.
If you go to space and move your hand around freely, that's just nothingness. Space can't be expanding into more space. There is no end to space, because how can there be an end to something that isn't there? It's just openness. There's always more room.

Care to elaborate, "friendo"?
Space is nothingness, so what exactly is expanding? And how can time be proven to be a real thing.

Hello i have thought of a easy to solve funny problem. Wanna see how you guys react to it.
Its no homework of mine.

Here it goes:
You have an n dimensional space.
Think of a formula for the number of rotational planes that this space has.
Thats all.

pic unrelated.
34 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>8604817
Well we'll assume n is x...then x, given a limitational set of correlatives, will be placed next to y, then the number of rotational planes switches back to the same vector
>>
could you define rotational planes please?
>>
>>8604826
OP here. I think you got the right idea, but i dont really understand what you say. You have no Formula so i dont really know.

Hello all. You may remember some polling that was done here and on /sci/'s facebook group regarding the smartest people alive today.

I received about 700 votes over two weeks. Voters we able to select their top 30 from a list of geniuses or write in their own submission.

During each iteration of 5 people, one will be "highlighted" with the reasons for their selection.

if we define disease independently of statistics just as a condition where one experiences greater difficulty or less ability then sexual desire is by definition a dis-ease. it is a nuisance, vulnerability, impediment to emotional and behavioral control, and leads to riskier behavior. now one could say but what about the survival of the species? well that is an issue independent of disease, disease is about the condition that effects the individual.

discuss
22 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
I disagree with your definition of disease. For example, a madman who chops up children for food may be helping himself because he cant eat anywhere else, but he is clearly inflicted with a disease of the mind.
>>
>>8604801
if children are his only means of survival and he is able to go through with it he is better of than those who can't, they are the diseased.
>>
>>8604807
No, the madman also has the option of eating acorns but chooses to eat children because he prefers it and they are slightly more filling.

How would you express "If 1 element in X is false, then all elements in X are false" mathematically/Logically?
36 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
assuming you have some set of expressions/variables: in this case you can't have a mix of true and false, so all the expressions in your set are logically equivalent
>>
>>8604709
That's a cool math trick

As for your question, isn't this basically the AND operation?
>>
so p1 <=> p2 <=> .... <=> pn

where {p1...pn} is your set of expressions
