help me out with this family
Start with x=0, because you know any value to the power of 0 is 1. Use a=1 at x=0 to find k (k=1/2)
The sub k and solve using another value of x in the table.

Because there's a lot of dead skin due to constantly shifting around and cum there so it's an itchy part of the body? It's not rocket science.

Is it possible for tardigrades to evolve to be larger and eventually something like a strange bear of some sorts?
I think about the possibiltiies of them surviving a mass extinction.
>>8603474
>a strange bear
Are you referring to their nickname, water bear?
No, I don't think they can magically grown in size. That would be cool though.
They look nothing like a bear. The fuck you talking about?
>>8603483
>magically grown in size
Are you telling me evolution has never affected size? I'm not asking if it will evolve into a literal bear, a mammal, but could it be possible for this thing to ever evolve to be around that size?
Hi,
I'm a 2nd year international PhD student in Applied/Computational Math at a reasonably well-known school in the USA (not top tier Ivy League or anything).
I just failed my analysis qualifying exam for the 2nd time. I spent my entire summer studying only to fail the first time around, and my entire winter break studying, only to get a Master's Pass this time, which is no better than a fail.
They're kicking me out of the program at the end of the year, with a Master's degree, and I don't know what to do.
First of all, I find it ridiculous that I'm getting kicked out for barely failing an analysis test, that I never am going to use again. I haven't even gotten to start PhD research yet.
As an international student, this poses some problems. My visa now expires as soon as the term is over, and I'll have to leave the United States. Problem is, I'm engaged to a US Citizen, who just received two job offers close to where we're living now. I don't want to leave her, and she has to stay in the state to get her student loans paid off.
I guess I should switch to Computer Science (my undergrad was CS/Math double major) but I haven't done any programming in nearly 2 years, and I don't know if I'm up for that. I guess I could try again and apply at another school, but what if I blow it there? I'd also have to leave my fiancee for at least a year and that would suck bad.
I could also get a job, maybe make some money and try again in a year or so, but I don't even know if I can do that, legally.
Fuck, I'm just so fucking pissed at myself, at my instructor, at everything.
I appreciate any responses. Thanks for listening.

Damn that sounds rough. What program was this? Sounds very hard and elite. For my comps I just had to present a paper.
>>8603388
I thought there was some sort of "grace period"? Don't you have 4 months to find a job? Can't you try to get some sort of work visa?

Is codechef a fucking retard?
Or am I?
I have this problem to solve: https://www.codechef.com/problems/SUMTRIAN
And this was my proposed solution: http://pastebin.com/TuXJ0FUw
It follows the logic of pic related.
Works fine with the test values and some of my own.
Codechef says it's a wrong answer.
Is it right or not?!
Have a more readable version of the code.
How many different paths are there in a triangle with 4 rows brainlet?
>>8603648
0 rows -> 0 paths
1 row -> 1 path
2 rows -> 2 paths
3 rows -> 4 paths
4 rows -> 7 paths
5 rows -> 12 paths
For 'n' rows you have 1 + a + b, a being the amount of paths for n - 1 rows and b for n - 2.

I suck balls at physics and can't seem to keep shit straight when I'm going through problems. Anyone know of a good textbook that can help me understand concepts and how to apply them well?
I have this indian teacher that I can barely understand and she's always making grammatical errors in explaining shit that makes the subject confusing as fuck.
List textbooks or things that helped you understand/master the subject. Currently in second term after failing first(retaking during summer), so can't fail or do anything below a B this term.
Help me /sci/ you are my only hope.
webm unrelated, but figured I'd put something pleasant to keep the mood positive.
tf is the subject?
mechanics?
optics?
solid-state?
quantum?

General physics. We are currently studying Coulombs law, and I think magnetism is next. Mechanics would be helpful and same with optics and thermodynamics.
Nothing above 200 level or second year physics. I'm not sure how it works in other colleges.

Hello guys
I have number N and want to find the LCM of all numbers from 1->20.
I figured out this methodology seems to work but cant figure out why?
First I find all the primes starting from 5 -> 20, which means this is 5,7,11,13,17.
Multiply them all together and get a lower bound for N.
Now this is the magic that I dont understand.
I take the floor of 2nd root of 20 and then floor of 3rd root of 20.
This gives me 2**4 and 3**2 multiplied by my previous lower bound.
This seems to work for me every time, I don't know if its mathematically consistent or a coincidence.
I just want to know why this works, why can a combination of 2's and 3's describe all missing factors of my number N?
Thank ypou
>>8603283
I have one part of it figured out though:
I understand why 2**4 and 3**2 work, because for all numbers under 20, finding the nth root will give me the highest possible multiple for 2 and 3, which is 18 and 16..
What remains is I dont understand how it magically happens to find the exact correct amount of factors needed between 1 and 20.. for example 12, in which 2*2*3 was needed.

Can you show me counter example please?
> measure the constant that link the force between two electroSTATIC charges : get ε0
> measure the constant that link the the magnetic field at given point and a STEADY current : get μ0
> do ε0 * μ0
>get 1 / c ^ 2
Now, I know you get this by writing the Maxwell equations in vacuum, use a rotational identity and you end up with a d'Alembert wave equation where 1/( ε0 * μ0)^0.5 is the propagation velocity. But I am blown by the fact that the product of two STATIC constants can *define* the SPEED of light in vacuum.
It's not a big surprise if you know what magnetism truly is. One could say that mu is defined by 1 ÷(epsilon c^2)
>>8603069
You are just rewriting a consequence of Maxwell's equations.
mu was derived when people searched the proportional constant linking the force and I^2 / r
It is because Maxwell equations hold that what you write is true, not by definition

Can even a stupid face like me go to college at 25 and start a career path to become astrophysicist?

I don't think they mean ANYONE anyone
im a brainlet and im one semester away from finishing my graduate studies
nowadays universities are just degree factories so yes anyone can do it
You're 25 stop daydreaming about becoming an astrophysicist and chase the money.

Shilov is indeed bad but Principles of Mathematical Analysis is a good book.
It's rigorous and concise thus:
1. No misunderstandings because rigorous.
2. Not boring because concise.
3. Basically an exercise book if you like proving statement and filling small gaps.
Ahlfors, how so? I've heard it's a good book.
Were you aware that whites could not have gotten into space without these strong black females? This has inspired me to learn more about science and math as a career.

I want to go into either physics research or teaching. I'm looking at potential colleges. The two most convenient for me have Physics or Applied Physics. Is there a difference? I know I have to go onto graduate degree levels anyway, but it won't be at either of these schools.
>>8602490
Physics is for smart and hard-working people.
Are you?
>>8602490
To answer your question, Physics.
Applied Physics is more industry focused. Also, plan your coursework with a target grad school in mind.
Best of luck!

why don'tcha double maja
Looking back in time we can observe that science as a whole at any given point in history is around 90% wrong. Things that were obvious, scientifically proven facts like flat earth, earth being the center of the universe, blood letting, etc. were thought of as not only sure things, but obvious to anyone studying the sciences. Odds are 90% of the science we "know" now is completely wrong. In fact, if there is any constant in science across the ages, it's that it's mostly wrong.
>No, this time we're sure! We just happened to be born in an era where everything was figured out for the final time!
There will be naive, young people like this with no perspective, but let's ignore them. What do you guys think will be revealed to be completely misunderstood in the future? I think almost all of medicine is likely wrong, especially understanding of disease. Particle physics as well, way too much conjecture. Finally environmental sciences, we can't even figure out if people are causing the world to heat up with any degree of certainly (a very basic concept), science has almost no understanding of our own environment on a macro scale.

Don't know if you should try this but I started whiffing N20 cans every time I study and it made it to where I didn't need to do anything fun because I was already having fun. It does kill brain cells though, not because of the N20 but the lack of oxygen, same thing if you breath in CO2 in a closed container. If you want to save money, buy whipped cream cans, empty the contents (or at least use it so it doesn't go to waste), and start breathing in that shit dude. To get high, you must empty your breath and then inhale as much N20 as possible. But make sure you get enough oxygen before that. The high will last about 7 minutes. And then rinse and repeat. I'm not sure how long you have till you run out of N20, it will kinda seem like a placebo affect when it's empty, but it will eventually wear off. Now this is dangerous, but it won't kill you unless you intentionally try to. It's no where near as dangerous as Caffeine or too much sugar. Dentists use it for its analgesia effect. It's real fun and a cheap way to get high. It's not addictive and won't give you withdrawal symptoms.
