Can someone explain this fallacy in layman's terms? It seems like bullshit, but maybe because I'm guilty of using it.

If a phenomenon occurs very rarely a test has to be much more precise in order to be accurate.

So for our partial sum Sn, we can get any real number depending on the order we sum the terms of the series as long as the sum of positive and the negative terms separately diverge.
But there seems to be a fundamental point missing here. I get that for example for the series in the pic we can reach past 10 just by adding a number of positive terms, then add one negative and continue to oscillate around 10.
Yes, but we are essentially assigning a limit to the partial sum of the series to determine the convergence. However limit assumes an inherent "after somehow completing the impossible task of reaching infinity".
Take the infinite sum of the series (1/2)^n for example. We could write the partial sum formula for this as:
1/1/2^n, and its limit as n tends to infinity is 1. We can see that no matter the n, the actual value will never be 1 though, so the limit operation is a convention assuming the complition of the infinite steps.

I mean, exactly as many unused/extra negative terms are stacking up in the alternate harmonic series as we use up the positive terms and we, somehow completing this infinite sum implies that we have to use all the terms we had, which would return us to an S of absolute convergence, not a conditional Sn.

Sounds like an interesting question OP, but I really couldn't figure out what you're asking.

>However limit assumes an inherent "after somehow completing the impossible task of reaching infinity".
My best guess is that your issue will be resolved once you see than an argument by induction removes any "go to infinity problems". But that's just a guess.

Can you reword your question more formally?

Nothing because I take all my classes in the mathematics department... and that comes with their quirks.

I remember my Calc I professor. For some problem we were discussing algebraic manipulations and someone had the AUDACITY to say "Pass that 5 to the left".

That triggered my professor. She said that you don't "pass". you don't "move" THAT IS NOT RIGOROUS. You add -5 to both sides, which will preserve equality, as given by the elementary theorems of arithmetic.

I also remember saying that she will not tolerate anyone who repeats the phrase of "pass it to the other side" because that is wrong.

That was fun. In mathematics we have the opposite probem you engys have.

Hey /sci/ I need your help, for a project I'm exposing fruit flies to high amounts of alpha radiation and smaller amounts a of gamma. The contaminated culture is acting very strangely and I'm not sure what's going on. It seems like a white fungus has formed in the culture and it should have killed the population by now. However the flies are multiplying just as fast as the control culture. Any ideas?

Hello /sci/,

I don't understand how black holes affects light when it reached the horizon.

Let's say you're falling into a black hole, the speed of liberation (force needed to escape gravity) increase because you're getting closer and closer, when the speed of liberation reaches the speed of light you can't return and you reach the black hole horizon.

But what is it like, from inside? Can we see external light coming to the black hole? Is it stretched / bended?

>>
If you're inside the blackhole, yes you can still see light, but everything would be extremely warped.

Light can't escape the blackhole because space itself is warped to such a huge degree that there is literally no way out of the blackhole.

Math was a joke (I had a 35 when I took it in 2010). They can't require more than algebra 2 because that is the highest required math in most high schools. It would be unfair to have anything more than that.
>>
>>8579607
The primary issue is timing. As an average highschool student its hard to finish all the questions with the allotted time. In reality most questions aren't too difficult, time constraints just make it easy to make mistakes. Also most people don't take it many times so they never get used to the tight timing. Once you get timing down your score will generally improve by a very significant amount.

Its Alegebra 2 because thats the highest required math in most highschools although most go up to Calculus.

For reference I got 32 composite on my first try and 34 composite on later attempts. I didn't try to get beyond a 34 because after a 34 the ACT scores suffer severely from diminishing returns. A 35 is worth it for the absolute best (Harvard/Yale/Princeton/Stanford) but the difference between a 36 and a 35 is almost meaningless, and due to elite college's holistic (read: we want to be able to admit whoever we want (Legacy and minorities) for any reason and have it justified) admissions you are far better off doing other things such as community service to help you get into elite colleges than striving for a 36 over a 35.
>>
The whole thing is easy. I got a 35 on my first try.

I'm also black; people on 4chan seem to believe that this is a necessary clarification to make.

But I have a rsearch chemicl stimulant which is not too disssimilar to adderall.

if I studied my ass off for 8 hours, owuld it be a good idea to take some then keep on going? Basically I want to know how best to use this so I can at least pass.

thanks

*afinil?
Don't binge on sugars; they will increase your sleep requirements.
Go for complex carbohydrates instead.
Don't take stimulants in the evenings, you still want to sleep a little, like on hour or more.
Four days is a lot of time.

Im about to buy some food then camp in the libary for 12 hours

Should i take coffiee as well?

You should become a better person, more responsible and keeping time schedules.

There will be no stimulats, or get-aways when you are a bit older and a child is on the way, right? Or when you argue with your boss?

I assume correctly, that you would like to work in a nice job and have a family, right?

That will never equal to true happiness if you are a .. junky.

I'm 32. I have lived in fear my whole life. I am autistic. I discovered P vs NP.

I am in the process of live-streaming the proof of this conjecture on twitch (AllDaXP)

If you don't know what all that means, or if your ego wants to somehow 'tear me down', that's okay. Because this post exists only to inform any and all autistics that if you wish for an answer to the pain and confusion in your life, I have it.

It will take me a little while to explain it fully and I will give you any maths/equations/logic you need, because 'I' am autistic and know what 'I' would need to be satisfied with an answer.

And yes, there is even a mathematical reason WHY 4chan is the best place to start. It used to be /b/ but I know y'all moved around. This knowledge will find you, but if it scares you I WILL show you how to find peace with it.

Autistics will get it faster than anyone else, because EVERYONE ELSE will ask for the studies and the blah blah blah. They will do what an autistic person does not do: just listen and see if it makes sense before you accept/reject. Like a computer.

Also, I NEED 'you' guys to get it first. Our kind have been locked up and tortured for so long, all by evil-minded twits who simply want to exploit us. They build labels, universities, hospitals... the create so many systems and labels that they forget that there is more than just 'you'.

>>
If no autistics read this, then I ask any mature women to.

If not them, then any spiritualist will do.

I can start with anyone. I just refuse to build a weapon to start the conversation.

So, I will continue to simply say: Hello world, until someone picks up.
>>
If it helps I can speak in memes, or movie quotes.

"Humans will accept a system 99% of the time, only because we built 'wisdom' that realized the only way our system could be sustained is if we gave people choice."

Or: "The problem, is choice."

Why is statistics considered distinct from mathematics rather than a branch of applied mathematics?

because it isnt applied mathematics. an experiment is done taking data, and then the data is analyzed. statistics involve a science and math is absolutely not science (applied or not)

Have I understood correctly that when approaching the event horizon, the horizon appears more and more like an infinitely extending plane, with the view of the surrounding universe spread out over this plane?
