one of my previous shots got posted in a things you've saved from /p/ thread so I might as well quit while I'm ahead as I will never again achieve this greatness again but here I am anyway

I found a Petri PX-1 for like £2 in a secondhand store.
This is the test roll.
It's HP5 shot at 200 and developed in Xtol 1+1
Pretty fucking terrible. You were warned.
Bought a Nikon zoom touch 400 for about $7 on amazon the other day. also found a Benz Grant Helioflex 3000T in my garage and it works perfectly.
What are all your thoughts and preferences for shooting film?
Buy a nikon l35af. I found mine at a pawn shop practically brand new for $10. Pic related, a shot from my last developed roll

Ricoh GR. Awful, awful camera. Don't buy.

Yeah I use one. I was joking about maymaycamera.
>sensors are all that matters
>autofocus???? what is that???
>framerate???? never heard of it
>lens selection and value? what the fuck is a lens?
Why is this mindset so incredibly rampant on /p/?
>>2835068
Because those things only matter when you actually take photos. /p/ talks about the photos they COULD take, if the situation ever came up. But it rarely does, sitting in your living room arguing about scanning techniques.
>>2835084
that is also my understanding
>>2835084
>arguing about scanning techniques
Who would argue about scanning techniques on /p/? Sony doesn't make films and literally nobody uses film cameras.

mind posting a couple of photos?
I want to get a new lense but I'm not sure which one to get. I shoot mostly landscape and wildlife sometime. I have a 18-55mm and a 70-300mm. I use a Nikon D3300 since I started only last summer. I've been thinking of getting a 35mm or a 24-70mm. Any other suggestions?

what would be a good upgrade after a nikon d5100?
>>2833452
APS-C? D7100/D7200
FF? D600/D610

Grey Market D610. like $1300. and then you just get inland marine insurance.
The inland marine insurance will cover your camera, lenses, and anything else you put on the policy against everything. And its only like $100-$200 a year.

Looks good to me, proper exposure all around without trying to over saturate it like I did when I was new to LR. I swear I still struggle 5k pics later to make my shit look good but still maintain their realism and not take on some weird oil painting effect.
I started with Raw Therapee and for some reason I couldn't touch a slider without the sky turning purple.

it's known fact that full frame cameras give more extreme bokeh than crop sensors
does it still apply to smarthphone cameras?
for example lumia 1020
>Pixel size is 1.4 µm. Sensor size is 10.67×8.00 mm. Crop factor 3.2×.35 mm equivalent focal length: 26 mm, 16:9 | 28 mm, 4:3. f/2.4
>Carl Zeiss optics with f/2.2 focal ratio. Focal length: 7.2 mm: 35 mm equivalent focal length: 25 mm @16:9 aspect ratio, and 27 mm @4:3 aspect ratio
so lowest DOF will be at f/2.2x3.2=f/7.04 ?
couldn't find crop factor for galaxy s7 but could be more than 6 so f/1.7x6=f/10.2
>>2831101
Yep, nothing magical about phone cameras.
https://youtu.be/DtDotqLx6nA?t=949
You can see he can get the same background blur on the 2x crop as doubling the aperture on the FF camera. (Though he has to raise the ISO more to get the same exposure with F5.6 instead of 2.8)
A samsung G7 has a 1/2.5" sensor with a crop factor of 6, so to imitate a F2.8 shot background you'd need F16.8 on FF. That's why it ships with a "F/1.7" lens instead of the prev generation's F/1.9.
It needs that lens because 1.7 is only F10.2 when used on a sensor so tiny. Camera phones are quite bad if you want to get background blur.
>>2831101
Some phones are getting around this artificially, using two cameras to judge distances in the scene, and using that information to very accurately add blur to the image.
It doesn't hold up at huge viewing sizes and prints, obviously, but for the stuff you're doing with a photo you took on your phone, it's really convincing, and people wouldn't know unless you told them.
Something I've noticed while watching post-processing tutorials for Lightroom is that the person will say to turn the highlights all the way down, and shadows all the way up. And then they will say to set the white point, and black point (by holding down the alt key and dragging).
I used to think this ended up looking bad, but now I'm trying it out again and it actually makes photos come out pretty good after also editing the exposure and contrast.
I also found this while googling:
"The Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5 Book by Martin Evening has this cryptic sentence (Page 197):
The tone adjustment controls are meant to be applied in the order they appear listed in the Basic Panel."
So is it officially intended that you edit in this order (bring down highlights->lift shadows->white point->black point), at least for most photos?
>>2829955
>So is it officially intended that you edit in this order (bring down highlights->lift shadows->white point->black point), at least for most photos?
No, they mean more like; you adjust the exposure, then the curves, then the colors, then any split toning you may want, then sharpening, etc. Each "group" goes in order, but not necessarily each slider.
For instance, in the HSL panel, you don't have to adjust red, THEN orange, THEN yellow, etc.
>>2829959
Welllll it says "tone adjustment controls" so I think it is specifically referencing highlights, shadows, whites, and blacks, because those are labeled "Tone" in Lightroom
I have done this on a few of my well-praised images here
I recently started to shoot dead animals (I live near a place were animals are found killed by predators and such). Post your best death pictures! I want to get an idea of how to shoot this type of things. Social websites are preferred so that more images can be seen. Pic related (first pic I took of a dead bird)
Is it wrong for me to kill a few animals if I can't find any predead ones?
>>2827644
Bruh, wtf

I just want to do some death photography of my own but the only animals around here are either stubbornly alive or eating whatever corpses present themselves.
