Tomorrow I'm attending a demonstration that could potentially turn out violent.
How do I best capture this?
Long lens or wide lens? Video or photo? Etc...
>>2828057
24-70 and 70-200, ND filter not a bad idea if it's sunny since you want quite a thin depth of field so your subject doesn't just fade into the mass of protestors. I'd probably bring a mic too so you can video if needs be, but personally I'd concentrate on photo.
What's the protest by the way? If it's junior doctors or anti-austerity you've got no hope I'm afraid.
>>2828061
Thank you for your advise!
>What's the protest by the way?
There are several political demonstrations at the same time, with very different opinions.
The main parties I will follow is the Nordic Resistance Movement and the Swedish Anti-Fascist Action movement.
The first is basically a party for Neo-Nazis, and the latter an extreme-left autonomous movement known for being pretty hostile and violent.
If I capture anything of interest I'll upload it here.

After a pretty bad injury I recieved while I was out in New York City on a photo trip, I've hardly been able to get out and do any landscape photos, because my ability to walk has been pretty hindered. And because much of my photography is done by myself, I've been afraid to go on a lengthy hike out of the fear my injury will flare up again, and I'll be stranded in an area without cell reception.
So last night I went on my first hike again. It was my first time visiting this small park in the hills of San Diego, so it was also a scouting session for further trips out there. I've only got a few photos because I'm pretty picky.
I'm basically just looking to see which one of these 4-5 photos is your favorite, and just looking for some constructive criticism. And if you could keep it objective with your criticism that would be great. I really just want to figure out which would be best to post on my Instagram.

Hey guys! Retard here.
My parents generously gifted me a T5i with a macro lens because they know I like movies, but I'd like to take videos from a distance further than just .8 feet.
What do you recommend for a dumbass newbie film maker?
Wide-angle?
Telephoto?
Let me reiterate that I have no idea what I'm doing. (pic related)

Forget the macro "filters", those destroy your image quality.
Also what lens do you have specifically, just see what's written on it, below the front lens cap.

A few months ago, I was convinced on IRC to buy a mirrorless - specifically the Nikon 1 j1 (pic related). Being the naive person I was, I hadn't thought much of it, and have actually had a good experience with it for some time.
The problem I see, however, is that most "pros", or even people on /p/, are using a DSLR and not mirrorless like the one I have.
What are the real "pros" and "cons" to having a camera like mine, the Nikon 1 J1, as opposed to the cheap point-and-shoot cameras and DSLRs?
>>2824305
Nothing
To add, I don't even think buying a camera like this was worth it. I see people taking pictures from their iPhones, which look great.
Shorter flange distance for adapting lenses.
Just not really worth it with the Nikon J series since they tried even less than Canon did with their mirrorless body.
I guess since no-one buys them, they're cheaper than your average premium compact at least.

Hi guys
I just bought a 720nm filter to screw it on my Lumix G7
I will post some shots I've done and pp but I need help to make them more clear
So I've been lurking /p/ for only about a week, in that time I've gathered that my camera, an a6000, seems to be meme tier around here.
Anyways I thought I'd post a few of my photos to get some critique.
I mostly do landscape and cosplay photography, and I'm constantly frustrated with how blurry and noisy my photos turn out. Yes I have a bad habit of pixel peeping and should stop doing that. So far all I have is the kit E PZ 16-50mm f3.6-5.6 OSS lens as well an E 55-210mm f4.5-6.3 OSS lens. I don't really know what I should be looking for the next time I invest in new glass.

The two immediate things that jut out to me is that the tint is really green and the balance on the river is too heavy. Also, starting off you want to scan the edges of the frame so you avoid including objects like the branch in the lower right hand corner. That branch definitely shouldn't be there.
What is that red thing in the center of the water?
As for subject, this isn't the most interesting place to take a photo.
So what if people here think a6000 is meme tier, it can still shoot photos. Personally I wouldn't want it because the viewfinder, but that doesn't make it any less capable.
This is how it looks in my export settings, never had to change anything to make sure it is included in my posts. Check if you camera is recording the data too.

/p/ burns down people's photographs as part of a concerted and ongoing effort to hammer into the human psyche what is not professional and what is not appealing to the eye.
It is an educational act which encourages caution in preparation, retention of technical skill, and experimentation in exercise.
There is no need for a separate flaming thread as /p/ has historically (if not so much today) managed to tear apart photographs successfully without such an aid.
The woman in your photograph (which you didn't take yourself) is a vengeful and tyrannical charlatan. She has little or no interest in the quality of life of working people. She has a self-congratulatory confidence which is deeply abhorrent and smile which never leaves a crease by her eye. She is false and bitter.
>>2828563
/p/ does it without reason.
"This shit sucks" is not criticism or education. Fuck off.
>>2828595
Actually "Shit sucks" is a way of catching the photographer's attention. If they bother to reply "why?" the poster is forced to explain themselves. If they can't their opinion is invalid - but if they do then it may expose actual weaknesses in the image and enlighten the photographer.

Some people say the AF is dead accurate, you just need to learn to use the right mode.
Others say the AF is crap.
Some say the DR is crap. Others say the DR is just fine.
Some say the high-iso is the same as Nikon D810.
Others say the high-iso is on another level.
What if Nikon's cargo got stolen, and this thief replaced all the D5's with D3 rebranded as D5?
>>2827815
Fanboys, crappy testing methods, etc. etc.
The D810 has really been the dynamic range king of D-SLRs precisely because it uses a native base ISO of 64. It's a Sony sensor, but not even the A7r with the same sensor does quite as well (it still does excellent though). I don't even think the new 5DSR has base ISO below 100.
The D810 also has exceptional detail, even more so than more expensive ultra pro bodies like the 1Dx and D5. This is possibly what gives people the impression that it has equivalent ISO performance - but it definitely doesn't. The D810 does not do very well past 6400 and even then you'd better not have too many shadows, and you'd better plan on doing some NR and downscalling in post.
