What are good 8" boots to check out?
I'm starting an internship as a national forest river ranger and need some boots to wear. I have no experience with them so have just been looking. I've heard good things about Justin's and wolverines, what does /out/ suggest?
Get 10 inch you god damned idiot
>>785106
I suggest you look at individual boot reviews. Wolverines have some real pieces of shit that I hated working with for just a day. I personally like Columbia, but I don't wear 8 inch boots just for hiking.
I would suggest testing your first pair of boots.
Considering they should be light, yet gripful.
Go down with the price, maybe around 100$?
Then invest in some good footrub & merano working socks. Working in Boots can be a real torment, so take care of your feet!

the Irish Setter 8", may be a little too hefty in price. I would even consider it being it too professional.
Hello /out/,
I posted this to /n/ but I figure the true home for this thread is here.
I want to talk canoes. Where do you canoe, what kind of boat do you have, what trips do you take?
I have I have basic fiberglass canoe with no tumblehome and a fairly flat bottom. It's an old design but a new canoe, 14' long. I mostly solo paddle in the oceanic Bay of Nova Scotia on which I live.
So come talk canoes; kayakers also welcome but be sure to try to spell very carefully, so the rest of us can understand you.

Note: I'm not Australian. I don't know what happened here.
Nobody here is into canoes or kayaks?
>>784951
yeah but board is very slow.
Hi /out/doorsmen,
Here is the mock ups for the new patches submitted in the last thread.
Let me know what you think and I will make fixes and changes over the next week.
What is this thing hanging from the patio called? I've made every logical guess and checked on google and none of them match this thing.
What is it /out/?
Lattice
idk sorry

Do you know where I could get one and how expensive it would be?
Lately I've got a boner for exploring caves (near northern Illinois). How to find natural caves that aren't commercially run or partially manmade(stairs, etc)?
In general, tell us of your subterranean travels, /out/.

Thoughts on Deep Digger Dan?

whoever this is, he should probably stop digging deep (if he's still, tho)

*alive
>>786790
Never heard of him.
Just watched a couple vids, is pretty neato.
Makes me think I should wear a GoPro camera when I'm out finding treasure. Only problem is I sometimes stumble onto otherwise unmarked private property I don't have permission to detect, and I'd rather not post evidence of that occasional blunder online for enterprising internet sleuths to question.
I'm looking for some hiking/approach shoes for the summer, as I'm going to be hiking a lot. I'm looking for something light and study on a budget. Are Vibram Five Fingers any good ,specifically the Trek Ascent? What else could I try?
>>786699
Wtf you smoking man? I'm assuming you meant "light and sturdy". You do realize Vibram toe shoes are literally just covers for your feet? They're minimalist shoes, not sturdy at all. You'll also get laughed at by nearly everyone. They're also $120 and not anywhere near an approach shoe.
Shoes are so personal and there are millions of models. Check reviews on outdoor gear lab to get a start. I doubt you'll want real approach shoes, as they typically suck balls for hiking. Just get trail runners, as they fit the bill for a lot of people. Unless you're getting into serious mountains or carrying 100 pound backpacks.
Check out scarpa zen. They're without goretex so they can breathe pretty good and they're rather comfy.
>>786715
I've run gnarly, rocky trails in socal 5 days a week for a year straight in vibrams and they showed little sign of wear or tear. The only issue is they can get real funky, but as far as actually getting not usable, they're fine.
One pair did rip p much right out of the box but that was a defect and they replaced them.
They have a specific trail running version with like a fiber glass bottom. I found that to be overkill and that even their lightest models can handle rough terrain.
CAN SOMEONE ONE IDENTIFY THIS PLANT, IS IT EDIBLE? I NEED TO KNOW FAST

YOU MIGHT NOT DIE IF YOU EAT IT FAST DO IT NOW

Coleus won't kill you if you eat a small amount. No, you won't get high from it in any manner you want.
Any good places to off-road in Florida? I know there's a couple beaches you can drive on but no beach camping or anything like that.

Hiking in Socal heat. 100 degress. Shorts or pants?
>>785936
How far? Terrain?
I hike in pants no matter the conditions.
In fact, my job requires I wear a long sleeve shirt even in 110 degree heat doing intense physical labor.
Depends. If there are foxtails, pants all the way.
I just bought a portable carbonator. Not the one in the pic, it needs proprietary mix that releases CO2 as it dissolves (like pop rocks). I got one that uses standard food grade CO2 cartridges like seltzer bottles. I just didn't post the exact one I got so I wouldn't get called a shill.
It's really small. About the size of a single can of cola. It's lightweight. Including the cost of cartridges, flavor concentrate drops and shipping, it's about 5 cents per litre of soda.
Is this justifiable? Or is making your own soda from filtered stream water inna woods crossing some sort of line where it's not real camping anymore?
I mean don't get me wrong I'mma do it either way, I love compact gadgets that let me bring amenities /out/ with me. I just want to know if it'll trigger anyone here.
Who gives a shit if it triggers any of the sperglords here. The point of going out is to have fun.
Most retarded shit ive ever seen
>>785171
Is it? All told I can fit the carbonator, a couple CO2 cartridges which are about the size of shotgun shells, the sawyer filter and a little bottle of flavor concentrate in one pocket.
It takes up very little space and weights very little but allows me to have sweet, fizzy drinks wherever I can find a water source. That seems like a pretty cool capability to have in such a small, light package.
What would be retarded is carrying cans of soda. Carrying water in general is retarded if you plan to camp by/near a water source.
Me and a friend are looking for a place near San Diego that has good dispersed camping. We're not planning on spending money to stay there nor do we want to spend time in a designated area or resort. If anyone could make some recommendations it would be much appreciated.

Odalism also means connecting back to nature, so pre 1400 technology only allowed.
This is going to sound weird, but what do you wear on your head while /out/?
Looking for a new hat. Specifically one with a neck flap because fuck the sun. I like how pic related looks, but it's 100% cotton (hot) and probably poorly made chinkshit. Any ideas?
>>784001
>Specifically one with a neck flap because fuck the sun
Just do like the Mexican field workers and wear a baseball cap with an unfolded bandana under it and hanging out the back.
A cap and a bandana combination are more useful than a silly hat.
I wear a hat just like pic related. It cost me $3.95 at Walmart and has lasted about 18 months so far, and still going fine. Been through the wash about a dozen times too.
Can't help you with your neckflap conundrum though
>>784001
Do you seriously not take bandanas with you? You should at all times have 2 bandanas on you. I learned this at a young age. And I'm not even mexican.
