What cooking set does /out/recommends for a solo guy and mostly 3/4days backpacking and camping trips?

Until now I've relied mostly on snacks, fruits and bringing food already cooked for the first two days, now I want to start cooking or at least bring mountain house like stuff.

Thanks

I solo and cook mainly for dinner. Some times coco or warm oatmeal in the morning. I only bring a 1.1 liter msr stow away pot to cook in. In there I keep a small bowl, my stove, small fork, and cleaning stuff. It's a simple set up for quick simple meals.

For dinner I usually pick up those idahoian instant loaded mashed potatoes. 4 for 5 bucks. 1 package fills me up, since it's over 4 servings. And you only gotta boil one cup of water. Eat it right out of the pot so there's less clean up.

That's about it. Simple set up, quick clean up, light and doesn't take up much space.

I used to use a Stanley stainless cookpot I got at walmart for ~$15, it was okay, but a little small. I just got a GSI soloist (without the bag/sink) that I'm going to start using for ~$23.
If you just want to boil water for a mountain house meal I would suggest a Snow Peak or similar titanium cup/pot.

Sup, /out/, first time posting here.

I'm interested in starting going outdoors and doing camping and shit, getting to see mother nature. Thing is, I live in urban inland Australia, and don't know how to just get to the middle of bumfuck nowhere like I see all the youtubers doing.

Google searching camping just takes me to sites for trailer parks and designated camp grounds but I wanna go somewhere unmarked like you see survival lilly or alfie aesthetics doing, they seem to have miles of woodland in their back yard.

So I guess my question is, where to start? Or are there any online resources for finding places?

Depends where you live. Some of the more well hidden places in camping spots are usually found on rural fireman maps, because they have every stream and river noted which is what you want. If you really have no clue where to start you could talk to a park ranger near where you think you could camp. Where do you live exactly?

Live in maitland brah, inland. From what I can see, the nearest national parks that I could camp at are like 4 hours away, and even then there's shit like no using deadfall for fires.

There does seem to be small patches of bushland just off the highway, is it legal to just leg it out there?
>>
>>793364

I'm in a similar position. I live in the heart of urban as fuck Rio and if I try to go to the green areas in-city I'm probably gonna get stabbed and get my shit stolen, so I'm thinking about going farther away.

Since I have 0 /out/ experience, I'm gonna try camping at the designated campgrounds in some national parks for a while before trying to tackle on-my-own trips. But I also don't know much about where to find areas or proper maps

I was assuming I'd figure it out as I went along, but I might as well get on the boat

generally shaving down tinder, maybe gutting small fish (yes, I'm aware it's not "the right kind" of knife) and just having a sturdy fixed blade that's easily accessible when hiking/camping. I'm more just wondering if anyone knows about the durability of it.

Got to my big bass lake a little too early today, and just managed to get one medium sized largemouth before the heat and wind got to me. Damn wind shifted and I didn't want to walk half a mile around the lake to get the wind at my back.

Then went to the peacock lake and once again crystal clear water and picky fish make it impossible to actually catch them. Got some nibbles on a lizard and some shots at those KVD™ Perfect Plastic™ Frogs. It's hard to get a good hook set on those when running them fast and weedless though.

My birthday is coming up and my wife has no idea what to get me, so she said pick something out.

Thoughts on a Jetboil stove? I currently use a $10 etekcity amazon.com stove, it's lasted a year, but the legs have loosened up enough that my pot has trouble staying on. It also iseems pretty loud and uses quite a bit of fuel. I've fixed it once, but there's not much fixing to it.

Any other items around $100 that are not necessary, but can be very useful? Something you've wanted but don't want to spend $100 on?

Thanks sc/out/s

So what's the update OP? Last I heard you'd notified the rangers, and set your game camera up. There was a false alarm where we were 100%-certain-without-a-doubt that the poachers tossed you into their burl sack and violated you back at their burl lair, but apparently that didn't happen, at least not exactly like that.

So what's crackin' down balltree way?

What was your worst lost experience in the wild?

>be me
>be alone
>returning from a mountain hike
>somehow miss the trail I took on the way up
>following small animal paths in a general downward direction (eventually I must find the trail, I think)
>end up in a deep steep stream of water, no way out of it, as it is surrounded by small cliffs
>only way is to follow it downstream, but there are no paths and the forest is super dense here, so only option is to walk inside the rivulet, hoping from rock to rock. (thank god for the stick I've found the day before)
>it is getting late, every minute less and less light is passing through the leafs
>no cell battery, nobody knows exacly where I am
>panic and adrenaline rush
>think: (If I break my ankle I'm done...)
>after an hour of rock jumping finally I notice a wooden bridge crossing the river
>(I'm saved)
>literally fall on my knees and thank god for that
>return safely

Once got "lost" while "fishing" with a friend.

There was supposed to be this headwater near Covington, MI with good fishing but it had shitty access. It was a 30 min hike one way with giant constant up and down hills and heavy tree cover.

It really wasnt that bad looking back on it. We werent much more than an hour or two hike from 141 or 41. But I wanted to gtfo because the fishing wasnt good, the sun was setting, and my friend had drunk up all my water.

Luckily I wasnt an old lady so I still had my bearings. We picked a vector and followed it 30 min and popped out on an ATV trail 15 ft from our vehicle.

Wasnt techinically very lost but the dispair was tangible.

My gf and I have 4 days off work this Thursday thru Sunday. We live in LA.
We have permits to go overnight backpacking to 1000 island lake in the eastern sierras. We started talking about just taking off and instead of going to 1000 island lake just throwing our gear on the truck and go explore without a set plan. I always wanted to visit Oregon. The farthest north I've been is Big Sur.
We have to be back on Sunday night and I'd like to camp outside at least one night. We can start driving Wednesday night and drive through the night taking shifts.
Any reccomendations?
I was looking at crater lake in Oregon but it'd be cool to check out all the cities too.
Seeing some huge as redwood trees sounds good too.

you're in LA, i wouldnt bother driving that far north when theres cool shit closer to you. awesome trailhead here 36.794855, -118.584907. theres pleanty to explore in the sierras. if you're just looking for a drive then yeah oregon would be cool.

I'm in Pooland for holiday and I've had a chance to finally start backpacking, since I usually spend my life 60mi of London where "large outdoors spaces" is a thing old sages talk about. Anyways, I go for a small walk in the woods and notice it is chock full of boar tracks, as well as what I thought is likely either large stray dogs or wolves.

How worried should I be about boar or wolf attacks? Anyone from Europe carry something for self defense from wildlife?
6 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
Wolves don't really attack humans unless it's a very hungry winter and there is nothing else to eat. Even then they usually attack little kids or old people. Stray/feral dogs can be a problem, but often just yelling at them and pretending you are an invulnerable badass makes them back off.

Boars can be aggressive and unpredictable, but generally avoid people.

I wouldn't worry about boars/wolves, I would be slightly worried about feral dogs, but I doubt there are packs of them in polan. Get pepper spray just in case, climb a tree if a boar is upset about you, yell and spray if you meet feral dogs.

tent/tarp/hammock as prefered
sleeping bag / quilt

wash kit (toothbrush, paste, bandana I can use as a wash rag
FAK (very basic, mostly aimed at foot care so blister pads, talc, nail clippers, but other stuff too, imodium, paracetamol, plasters, etc)
Head torch with enough batteries
Spare torch
Knife (big) + pocket knife (small)
Saw (saw>axe IMO)
Compass
Gloves and hat
Change of clothes (camp clothes and walking clothes allows you to keep camp clean and change out of wet clothes if you get caught out)
Poncho
Water filter / iodine tablets at a push / just boil your water
Stove + fuel
Pot to cook in + utensil to eat out of
Bug net and spray this time of year
