Sure, why not?

Full tang

It's got an edge

I'm sure it'll do everything a knife is supposed to do.

Can anyone ID this little guy? Found him while on a hike in NE Georgia.

I think that's a Northern Water Snake. Their colors vary a good deal, some have that red color like you see there.
>>
>>784709
I looked on a few other forums and I got that reply. I think you're right. The red on some is much more noticeable than on this one.

Why not just bring a plastic garden shed with you? It's 1/10 of the price and weighs about the same.

If you're going to ask for $1000 for that, you might as well ask for $3000.

less gear talk and shilling more getting shit done out in the woods.
what i want to see is something between dave canterbury and primitive technology. minimal gear good explanations but mostly just show how it's done.
item crafting, making shelters and necessities for long term survival (like making salt, sugar, clay, smoke meat, dry fruits).
>>
>>781106
I intend to more outdoor stuff than gear stuff, I can't really afford to make gear videos again and again.

sadly manufacturers send them out for free testing if you have enough followers.

What do you guys think about a Glock knife*
>>
>>777442
What manufacturer is the fixed blade?
>>
>>777457

Polish knifemaker Mariusz Przybyłowski, aka Tlim (www.tlim.net).

It's basically a drop point version of Ray Mears' woodlore (which is a spearpoint) - this style of knife is made all over by a lot of people.

>>777455
gun brand knives are generally a bad idea. Of all that I know, only HK uses a good manyfacturer (benchmade), but still - you want a knife, you're better off buying one made by a company that specialises in knives, not someone who will charge you for a gadget with your favourite gun logo tacked on.

Besides combad blades make rather unimpressive bushcraft knives. You'd do better with something that is scandi grind, or full flat grind, rather than saber grind, and has a good handle, and no guard to get in the way of things.

But if all you're going to do with it is cut sausages around the camp, stab canned food, and sharpen sticks to roast said sausages, it doesn't matter much what you use.

>those thinking about trying a variation of the life
Tell us a little about your situation and maybe where you're located, we'll try to give you some advice. The best advice is nothing though compared to experiencing it yourself, we all started somewhere and often it was diving in headfirst. If you're homeless or worried about becoming homeless and need guidance, perhaps we can direct you a little.

>people who are salty and feel the need to tell us
We're not here to discuss how to get out of the situations we're in or whether we should be in them at all.

explain your setup, is it a daypack?
>>
Op, get a metal drinking bottle they work better. Also what is in your first aid kit? I'd suggest expanding it a bit. I went into the woods thinking all would be fine with a basic kit and I broke my leg and I didn't have phone connection. So I had to crawl/walk out (took me what should of been a easy 4 hour hike over 18). Just saying more or less expand your bag a bit more and get some QuikClot that shit has saved my life a couple of times and also as stupid as it may sound bear spray if you dont have a firearm or cant own one (make sure its legal) and also a flare/smoke I wish I had one when I broke my leg because a rescue helicopter was called out for me but I couldn't signal it. ~Have Fun and Best of luck.
>>
>>747636
Yes it is a daypack.
For cutting i use small folding knife. Fiskars saw and sometimes hatchet.
For cooking and water i have usa canteen with cup set as water container and pot, stainless steel cup for brewing, gas burner, nonstick frying pan (under the gas tank in pic).
As usual some cordage, drybag for clothes, some "in case" food, coffe, tea.
I use pot grippers for pan, pot, cup - one of my favourite accesories (mine iss trangia aluminium).
I carry cheap headlight for now because day trips while a lot of work.
In small bags i have some tent pegs, ferro rod, chicken stock, med kit, foldable spade (use a lot for getting fishing bait).
Gloves for general in case.

do you guys even use cloaks? i hope so unless you're a dork

I think it's a nice choice, OP. Too many people spend a lot of time on choosing the right dagger or obsessing over how much elvish rope to get, but they totally neglect the cloak.

Hey /out/, I'm hoping to get some walking boots for the first time (I've been using trainers until now but my gf and I want to start hiking more regularly, like once every few weekends). We do a combination of lowland forest and hill walking (no mountains just yet) and I'm after something cheap and fairly waterproof. I was thinking of getting some Karrimor Bodmins but wanted to see what you guys thought. I don't have bitch ankles but the balls of my feet start to hurt after a few miles of uphill/unstable terrain.

Also is there any other gear you'd consider essential? We try to travel light, I carry a backpack with food, water, jumpers and maybe a book as well as my camera.

If you're staying on trails, sneakers are probably fine. Try it first and see if you need to spend the 100+ on boots. I wear trail runners.
>>
>>785213
The boots are only £30 which is why I was asking. But if you think it's unnecessary I might leave it for now.
>>
>>785257
Then you get what you pay for. I disagree with >>785213 in that you want more than sneakers for most trails, I've seen people slip and slide on anything with a steep incline. Look at hiking shoes over boots, something like Merrill or Columbia.
