Saint Christopher is the one you're talking about. I have his image on a small coin-shaped keychain. Not even religious, just muh superstition I guess.
Are there any hiking spots near the Bay Area that are must-visit? Im definitely doing Yosemite and Redwoods this summer, and Mt Diablo is literally a 5 minute drive from me.
>>787131
If you're going to Yosemite do Cloud's Rest, it's higher than Half-dome and has way fewer people
>mt tam
>marin headlands
>big basin
>pinnacles n.p.
the best view in yosemite is sentinel dome, imo. mellow trail and great line of sight to el cap, yosemite falls, and, half dome. hit taft point in the afternoon then bring a sunset picnic to the top of sentinel dome for max value.
where ever you go, if it's between june and august be ready for brutal mosquitoes. i got 88 bites, with constantly reapplied deet and long sleeves and pants, on the clouds rest trail a couple summers ago.
>>787131
yosemite is def not bay area. but if youre down to drives like that id suggest hiking desolation wilderness in tahoe. good fishing. good swimming. lots of mushrooms to hunt.
all the true bay area trails are pretty dope. i try to check out most of them since i go mushroom hunting a lot.
Let's hope this happens.

Damn, so they are finally giving the skinwalkers their land back? Took too many years, but this is the right thing to do.

you really haven't been paying attention, have you?

Actually, I have. It's you that hasn't.
The locals have been running roughshod over that area for decades.
Question: this coiled plastic pipe drains into a river by my campsite. I often camp here, and am curious as to what it may be used for. I am guessing erogation? As there are is no plumbing used anywhere even close to here. Im in south western ontario. Where i am is deep in a valley where a main river flows through. It looks fairly new.
Thanks
>>786106
Erosion prevention.
I got something like that at home. It collects water from around the foundation and drains it into a ditch down by the road. Keeps the basement from flooding. I'm guessing the pipe drains water from someplace that's prone to flooding or erosion
>>786126
>>786120
Thanks guys. I figured just that. Its kind of interesting how in the middle of nowhere someone took the time to do this. It is a "private" campground, and the people here dont seem to take time to do anything besides drink.
The site is directly below a big cliff, so this makes sence. I just wonder where they would tie in to collect water.
Pic is the river it drains to
What does /out/ think of these noodles?
>>785542
take up too much space. i would never bother with one.
that said they're great when you need a sodium refill or for a hangover. i always use more water than you're sposta because muh hydration.
>>785542
Good non-perishable food to keep on hand at the house due to its long shelf life and only requiring boiling water to cook. Bad for taking on a hiking/backpacking trip because it takes up too much space in your pack for the small amount of calories it provides and leaves you with a Styrofoam cup that you must dispose of somehow.

Co-worker was telling me all week (and last weekend) that we gotta get out fishing. Hit him up everyday last weekend, yesterday, and today and he always has an excuse. Real fishermen realize that fishing takes priority over real life problems like spending time with the wife and kids. At least Miami anon was down. We 'bout to catch sumn feesh.
Talk about fishin.
First for Sir Nibblesworth
I like fishing.

What are you reading on your next /out/ing? Pic related.
il be re-reading Charles Darwin´s: expression of emotions in man and animals
probably outdated as fuck in any sort of scientific sense, still an interesting book and i haven't read it in years and it was pretty good if i remember right

According to the green berets if you make it to the top of a mountain and then get picked up by the helicopter it's not a """"rescue"""" even though they were unable to make it back down under their own power.
http://abcnews.go.com/US/helicopter-rescue-launched-11-green-berets-colorado-peak/story?id=39595161
>The helicopter evacuation was not characterized as a rescue because the soldiers made it to the top of the mountain under their own power.
43 personal required to resolve this "incident" as it was called and it's not a rescue.

It's more hooray for hubris.
There's no way that girl could carry that pack and all that gear on a 1,000 mile hike, is there?
>>784669
With a lifetime of training I don't see why not. I know a small guy who weighed ~130 pounds that hiked over 370 miles with a pack like that in one go like it was nothing.
Whore.

What's a good spread to put with tortillas while backpacking? Meaning it cant spoil and such.
Bonus points for no peanut butter.
I was thinking 2 packs of tortillas, and some sort of add-water-meal would go well too.
squeezable bacon cream cheese that can be unrefrigerated for a week
unfortunately is has to be ordered directly from yurop, so shipping effectively doubles its price. :(
>>782436
while I love cream cheese I get gas/stomach pains if I eat too much dairy. That seems hi cal as fuck tho and seems perfect nonetheless
>>782431
All the weight you are saving is meaningless because you still have to carry around things to fill them with. Get rye or whole wheat bread and cured meats instead.
What is the best country in europe to live off-grid?
Laws
Price of land
nature
people
etc.
>>781220
i would say somewhere along the cucknavia you should be fine with natives and off grid in general, sadly they're being culturally enriched every single day. the weather is also shit. Spain has lots of cheap land, some old villages that no one lives in are dirt cheap, people are nice and the weather is 10/10 80% of the year. Up north weather is not so great but I love the coast, for me Galicia is where is at, anon.

How do I go about carving a pipe, like this, but simpler. I have a Mora and I can get a drill for the stem. Do I use multiple bits of wood or a single piece?
>>780597
I want to use it for tobacco, but if I'm /out/ with certain people I'll smoke weed from it, if that makes a difference.
Here's my CC pipe, I used a small elderberry branch for the stem cuz it has a pith down the center that can be pushed out with a piece of wire. I mostly smoke rabbit tobacco in it... mostly

i am going to have some "in-the-woods"-fun next week.
5 days with three buddies, surviving in the woods.
(we did that last year and it was an awesome experience.)
this year we will not bring MREs, because we were really sucessfull at trapping and fishing last year.
i already got everything together. so lets play a little game:
i will take two of the knives on the picture with me.
they will be used for:
cleaning game,
making wooden tools:(spearshaft, bowdrill, bow, arrows...)
processing food,
cutting whatever we need to cut.
which two would you take and why ?
from left to right:
opinel no. something
esee izula
crkt m16
real steel takin
d'eskabar
eskabar
real steel bushcraft II
real steel observer
esee 4
gek edc
martiini fishing knife
bkt bk2
The one with the orange handle for food and he one on the far right for cutting wood and such.

Bk2 and opinel.
Clean your fish and chop your wood.
>>772702
>Bk2
Can we stop with the prybar meme already? That's a terrible knife.
If i had to pick two, i'd take the d'eskabar and rsk bushcraft - by far the most useful.
Then i'd throw in the opinel too, because it weighs next to nithing and there's no excuse not to take it.
