How did people drive without phones back then?

I forgot my phone when I drove to work a few days ago, I was freaking out that somehow if something happened I'd be stranded without communication.

With both hands on the controls, looking where they were going, and not constantly distracted.

Also, we had these things called 'payphones' where you paid a small fee to make a telephone call.

At one point men had these magical sacks that dangled under their penis. This magic sack contained manlinessium, a now rare substance which allowed the men to do things like take care of themselves and be brave.

Sadly, the worlds supply of manlinessium is drying up fast.

My uncle was just telling me a story about how he was on a long motorcycle trip by himself back in the 80s. He stopped about 10 miles from home to take a leak, and when he got back on his bike, his chain snapped 2 miles later.

He was on a rural Texas road. No payphones, nobody out and about on this particular day. He simply had to walk his ass home.

I'm more amazed at how people were able to navigate effectively before satellite nav/phone navi. I actually had to go out and about without my phone yesterday to try and find an auto paint shop (there are none in my town) since google maps suxxx

I found a 2006 Acura CSX Premium with 100k kilometres (standard transmission) being sold for just under $8000 (CAD).

$8000 is all of my money. I'm considering bringing $5000 to the casino and putting it all on black so I can buy it and have some money left. Talk me out of that too.

Redpill me on Corvairs
My dad claims they are pieces of shit and that's why nobody bought them. I thought most people at the time didn't buy anything with less than 8 cylinders which is why Slant-sixes are hard to come by.

Are they really pieces of shit? Is that why they're cheaper than other classics of the time?

Lots of people bought in line sixes, even when a veeyate was available. Just like today.

Corsair was mostly the victim of bad marketing. A lot of people thought they were unsafe. It also didn't help that the drive train layout was unconventional with the engine in the rear. People weren't used to that from an American car in a time where everything was FR and added to the uneasiness feeling for the consumers.
>>
>>14736184
Deathtraps, basically.

They caught fire like a Pinto, and the engine tore free from it's mountings in a front or rear impact, and crushed you to death.
>>
>slant six

what does Chrysler have to do with the Corvair

they were cheap as hell when they were new so a lot were bought the safety issues only apply to the early models (and can be remedied with a compensator) the later models (like you posted) are fine

Not cool man my mom has an evoque. The other cars they own are a LR3, jaguar xk8, Mustang Shelby 2011, and a Honda civique though, and I'd say the jag is more trophy wife material than the range rover.

My vote is for the Porsche Cayenne. I have never seen this driven by someone who isn't a trophy wife.

Guys!

Need help.

Lexus SC400 (toyota soarer uzz31)
>pic

There is a grinding/squealing noise coming from underneath at low speeds after 10 minutes driving.
Sounds like a wheel/brake.

Swapped brake pads. Still has same noise.

What underneath the car can rub/grind?
I need ideas.

Brakes look absolutely fine looking underneath.
Rotors/discs are fine.

Any ideas what to check?

Noise stops over 30mph.

As I am not a faggot, I do not have 20 inch rims.
Car is stock - rare - and pro.
260bhp, 6.5 seconds to 60 or what not.
Air suspension - self levelling.
Factory TV, no antennaes.

Toyota Soarer was $150,000 brand new.
Lexus SC400 was $50,000 brand new.

I have the Toyota with a Lexus badge.

It's being worked on - will have an M112 supercharger soon as this noise is fixed.

Will I feel a difference using these underdrive pulleys with a full heads, cam and intake swap? I'm also running 3 73 gears. Will these pulleys help at all?

Alright /o/, I'm looking at getting a new car soon. I've got a max budget of $30k and while I don't need a racecar I'd like something decently sporty. Of course I'd prefer a manual for muh driving feels but isn't a 100% necessity. My current considerations are as follows:

2015 Cadillac ATS 2.0T AWD with 29k miles -- $22,000
New BRZ, fully loaded -- $28,000
New WRX optioned up to 30k -- $30,000

Honestly I'm really liking the idea of that Cadillac. It's got ~275hp and ~295ftlb in a ~3100lb car, so it's competitive with the WRX, and while it is an automatic it will have many more creature comforts than either of the alternatives. It also has its manufacturer warranty up at 70k miles.

What kind of opinions do you guys have, and are there any other cars that you would suggest for me? Keep in mind that while I am an enthusiast this will be my only car so I'm looking for a comfortable and reliable daily driver I can have some fun in. My second car down the road is going to be more fun-oriented if I don't end up with the BRZ or WRX.

go hunting for a manual rwd 2.0T ATS with the premium package, which throws in a lot of nice stuff including

>limited slip diff
>magnetic ride control which is incredibly good
>various extra comfy features and driver's aids like adaptive cruise control

they're out there but they're kinda rare, as an upside nobody in that price range buys manual so they tend to sit on lots for a while and you can cut a good deal

as a bonus; the 2.0T takes well to tuning, shoot for just north of 300whp to get a nice blend of fast and livable
>>
>>14731364
almost forgot, the premium package throws in a really fucking good full color HuD that integrates speed and revs and directions and music stuff. its really nice for a factory hud
