The @POTUS account tweeted an image from a racist, Islamophobic, misogynist redditor who believes that the problem with CNN is that it has too many Jews

Four days ago, Reddit user HannAssholeSolo posted a similar edited version of the 2007 video of Trump punching and body-slamming World Wrestling Entertainment chief Vince McMahon.

So, who is HannAssholeSolo? He or she has been a registered Reddit user since December 2015 and is a frequent participant in the subreddit The_Donald, according to data from Reddit Investigator.

He or she is fond of posts denigrating blacks, Muslims, women, and, of course, liberals. HanAssholeSolo was over the moon by Trump’s tweet: “Wow!! I never expected my meme to be retweeted by the God Emperor himself!!!” At the same time he appears to have gone on a bit of an editing spree, knowing his posts would be under the microscope he started sanitizing some of his most offensive screeds, deleting the N-word and a comment about killing Muslims, for example.

Despite the edits, there is still plenty of offensive material that HanAssholeSolo has posted that is still on the site (at least for now). The user, for example, posted a link to a meme that advocates running over Muslims with a tank. He or she also posted a meme that identified CNN contributors as Jews using a Star of David. The user also frequently posts racists comments that target African-Americans in particular, in one instance writing that Americans spend less on Father’s Day than Mother’s Day gifts because “most blacks don't know who their fathers are.” The troll nature of the user is perhaps best exemplified by a post in which HanAssholeSolo makes clear he just posts certain things to get a rise out of people. “Don’t mind me,” he writes in one post consisting of a burning Quran, “just posting an image to offend Islam.”

>BY ANDREW MILLS AND CLAUDE BRODESSER-AKNER
>NJ Advance Media for NJ.com
>BERKELEY TOWNSHIP -- People hoping to visit Island Beach State Park this holiday weekend were not allowed in because of the state government shutdown Gov. Chris Christie ordered amid the state budget standoff in Trenton.
>But there was one family there: Christie's. They are using the summer beach house provided by the state for a weekend down the Shore.
>And here are exclusive aerial photos by NJ Advance Media showing Christie surrounded by wife Mary Pat and others.
>It was taken early Sunday afternoon before the governor headed to Trenton to hold another news conference about the shutdown.
>At that news conference, Christie was asked if he got any sun Sunday.
>"I didn't," he said. "I didn't get any sun today."
>When later told of the photo, Brian Murray, the governor's spokesman, said: "Yes, the governor was on the beach briefly today talking to his wife and family before heading into the office."
>"He did not get any sun," Murray added. "He had a baseball hat on."
>Christie, who first disclosed his weekend plans on Monday, said Sunday he was taking the state helicopter to go back and forth between Island Beach State Park and Trenton.
>"I traveled there and I traveled back and I'll travel back again," Christie said. "That's where my family is sleeping, so that's where I'll sleep tonight. When I have a choice between sleeping with my family, and sleeping alone, I generally like to sleep where my family is."
>Christie told reporters Saturday that the the beach house is separate from the park and that his family will not ask for any state services.
>Asked if this is fair, Christie said Saturday: "Run for governor, and you can have a residence there."
>But critics have taken Christie to task for the situation on social media.

what the fuck...??? Is this a news report about abuse of power or a beached whale??

The controversial “Obamaphone” program, which pays for cellphones for the poor, is rife with fraud, according to a new government report released Thursday that found more than a third of enrollees may not even be qualified.

Known officially as the Lifeline Program, the phone giveaway became a symbol of government waste in the previous administration. Now a new report from the Government Accountability Office bears out those concerns.

The report, requested by Sen. Claire McCaskill, Missouri Democrat, also says the program has stashed some $9 billion in assets in private bank accounts rather than with the federal treasury, further increasing risks and depriving taxpayers of the full benefit of that money.

“A complete lack of oversight is causing this program to fail the American taxpayer — everything that could go wrong is going wrong,” said Mrs. McCaskill, ranking Democrat on the Senate’s chief oversight committee and who is a former state auditor in Missouri.

“We’re currently letting phone companies cash a government check every month with little more than the honor system to hold them accountable, and that simply can’t continue,” she said.

The program, run by the Federal Communications Commission, predates President Obama, but it gained attention during his administration when recipients began to associate the free phone with other benefits he doled out to the poor.

Some 10.6 million people have an Obamaphone, but 36 percent of them may not qualify, investigators said after sampling the population and finding a huge chunk of people couldn’t prove they were eligible.

More than 5,500 people were found to be enrolled for two phones, while the program was paying for nearly 6,400 phones for persons the government has listed as having died. - More in link.

Jury selection in the trial of Martin Shkreli is proving tricky, as the notoriety of “Pharma Bro” precedes him.

>On Monday, potential jurors in the trial ruled themselves out, saying they would be unable to be impartial when reaching a decision regarding the innocence or guilt of the former pharmaceutical executive in a fraud case. Shkreli earned notoriety in 2015 after raising the cost of a life-saving HIV drug 5,000 percent while running a drugs company.

>At the jury selection in a Brooklyn courtroom, more than 100 potential jurors were dismissed.

>One called Shkreli “the face of corporate greed”; another labeled him “the most hated man in America” and a third gestured as if wringing his neck, reported the Associated Press.

>Another was sent home after confiding that when she saw Shkreli sitting at the defense table, “I said in my head, ‘That’s a snake.’”

>When asked by the judge if he could remain neutral, another prospective juror replied in the negative, adding, "Honestly? Because [Shkreli] looks like a dick," before he shrugged his shoulders and added, "Sorry," reported Buzzfeed.

>On Tuesday, the trial moves into its second day.

>Shkreli, who on social media has labeled lawmakers investigating his business practices “imbeciles,” is charged with securities fraud, and is on bail following his 2015 arrest.

>At a congressional hearing on the drugs pricing scandal, he smirked and refused to answer questions.

>Essentially, Shkreli is accused of running a Ponzi scheme, using money from new investors in the drugs company he headed, Retrophin, to pay off mounting debts from his failed hedge fund, MSMB Capital.

>He is accused of cheating investors out of $11 million.

>Shkreli was notorious before his arrest, after hiking prices in 2015 for Daraprim, which is used by many AIDS patients, to $750 per pill from $13.50 after obtaining the license for its manufacture. At the time, he was head of Turing Pharmaceuticals. He has since resigned from the position.

>Details also emerged of his lavish spending, and in 2015 he claimed he spent $2 million on the only known copy of the Wu Tang clan’s Once Upon a Time in Shaolin. He was banned from Twitter after harassing a female journalist.

>Shkreli faces up to 20 years in prison if found guilty.

Joey Chestnut won the 101st Nathan's Annual Famous International Hot Dog Eating Contest on Tuesday, marking his 10th victory in the event.

Chestnut was the reigning champion and favorite heading into the 10-minute race, which attracts the world's hungriest competitive eaters at New York's Coney Island. The 33-year-old set a world record Tuesday by devouring 72 hot dogs.

"I treat it like a sport, it's not like going to a buffet," Chestnut told ESPN2 shortly after winning the event.

Carmen Cincotti finished in second place with 68 hot dogs, while Matt Stonie placed in third with 48.

Last year, Chestnut set the previous record of 70 hot dogs, winning the title back from Stonie, who defeated him back in 2015. "Joey is a monster, it will take a lot to knock him off," Stonie said before the competition, which aired on ESPN2.

"On July 4th, I have a goal that begins with an 8," Chestnut said on Twitter days before the competition. "I know [Stonie] and [Cincotti] are making gains. So am I."

In the women's competition, 20-year-old Miki Sudo won her fourth-consecutive title by downing 41 hot dogs in 10 minutes.

"I came back better prepared than ever, I was just in a really good place mentally," Sudo told ESPN2 after the competition ended.

Michelle Lesco came in second place with 32.5 hot dogs. Sonya "Black Widow" Thomas finished the competition in third. She still holds the women's contest record of 45 dogs and buns.

Eventually someone's going to reach the upper limits of the number of hot dogs a human being can possibly consume and there will be no more records set. What will these wiener eaters do then?

>The Trump administration's top environmental official met privately with the chief executive of Dow Chemical shortly before reversing his agency's push to ban a widely used pesticide that health studies showed can harm children's brains, newly released records reveal.

Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt's schedule shows he met with Dow CEO Andrew Liveris for about half an hour March 9 during a conference held at a Houston hotel. Twenty days later, Pruitt announced his decision to deny a petition to ban Dow's chlorpyrifos pesticide from being sprayed on food even though a review by his agency's scientists concluded that ingesting even minuscule amounts of the chemical can interfere with the brain development of fetuses and infants.

>The EPA released a copy of Pruitt's March meeting schedule this month after several Freedom of Information Act requests.

>Asked in April whether Pruitt had meet with Dow executives or lobbyists before his decision, EPA spokesman J.P. Freire replied: “We have had no meetings with Dow on this topic.”

>The EPA did not respond this week to questions about what Pruitt and Liveris discussed during their March 9 meeting, or whether the two had also met on other occasions.

>Liveris has close ties to the Trump administration. He heads a White House manufacturing working group, and Dow wrote a $1-million check to help underwrite the president's inaugural festivities.

>The American Academy of Pediatrics has urged Pruitt to take chlorpyrifos off the market. The group representing more than 66,000 pediatricians and pediatric surgeons said Tuesday that it is “deeply alarmed” by Pruitt's decision to allow the pesticide's continued use.

>“There is a wealth of science demonstrating the detrimental effects of chlorpyrifos exposure to developing fetuses, infants, children and pregnant women,” the academy said in a letter to Pruitt. “The risk to infant and children's health and development is unambiguous.”

>The Associated Press reported in April that Dow was lobbying the Trump administration to “set aside” the findings of federal scientists that organophosphate pesticides, including chlorpyrifos, are also harmful to about 1,800 critically threatened or endangered species.

>U.S. farmers spray more than 6 million pounds of chlorpyrifos each year on citrus fruits, apples, cherries and other crops, making it one of the most widely used pesticides in the world.

>First developed as a chemical weapon before World War II, chlorpyrifos has been sold by Dow as a pesticide since the mid-1960s. It has been blamed for sickening dozens of farmworkers in recent years. Traces have been found in waterways, threatening fish, and experts say overuse of the pesticide could make targeted insects immune to it.

>Under pressure from federal regulators over safety concerns, Dow withdrew chlorpyrifos for use as a home insecticide in 2000. The EPA placed “no-spray” buffer zones around sensitive sites, such as schools, in 2012.

>But environmental and public health groups said those proposals don't go far enough and filed a federal lawsuit seeking a national ban on the pesticide.

>In October 2015, the Obama administration proposed revoking the pesticide's use in response to a petition from the Natural Resources Defense Council and Pesticide Action Network North America. A risk assessment memo issued in November by nine EPA scientists concluded: “There is a breadth of information available on the potential adverse neurodevelopmental effects in infants and children as a result of prenatal exposure to chlorpyrifos.”

A Comal County jury sentenced the 56-year-old New Braunfels man to life in prison Wednesday on charges of drug possession and tampering with evidence after a Texas state trooper found him sitting in his truck with melted candle wax on his bare chest and a collection of meth-filled syringes, male enhancement pills, lube, children's clothing and a cooler of frozen cucumbers with him.

When the trooper found him on March 23, 2015, along Interstate 35, Ransier had a syringe in his hand and was trying to break the end off of it, according to the Comal County District Attorney's Office.

Ransier refused to comply with the trooper's command to stop, and a struggle ensued, a video of which was presented as evidence during Ransier's trial. The trooper eventually placed Ransier in handcuffs and recovered the broken syringe, which tested positive for methamphetamine.

But "the rest of the story" was also presented to the jury during Ransier's trial.

After Ransier was detained, troopers searched his pickup truck and found a mishmash of startling items: Barbie dolls, candy, children's clothing, balloons, baby oil, Viagra, Extenze male enhancement pills, duct tape, rope and a cooler with frozen cucumbers inside.
Further investigation revealed it was not the first time Ransier had been caught less than fully clothed with vegetables in tow.

On Nov. 10, 2012, a Comal County deputy found him naked inside his truck. Ransier admitted to the deputy he had been engaged in a "deviant sex act involving a squash," according to the district attorney's office.

On March 9, 2014, a "concerned citizen" notified a state trooper of a suspicious pickup truck at the nearby baseball fields. The trooper found Ransier engaging in a deviant sex act with a vegetable "wearing nothing but women's stockings."

State prosecutors disclosed such incidents to the jury, as well as other evidence from court records of Ransier's nine previous felony convictions. One such conviction involved the death of a reserve sergeant with the Arizona State Troopers and father of twins. Ransier was found to be high on meth when he crashed into the trooper and killed him.

The jury took less than an hour to sentence Ransier to life in prison on the charge of tampering with evidence connected to the March 23, 2015, incident. He was also sentenced to 20 years in prison on the meth possession charge and fined $10,000.

"This is bigotry, this is all about being a fanatic. How are they going to teach biology now? How are they going to talk about science?"

On an online forum about the government's decision to exclude the theory of evolution from the national curriculum, a passionate discussion is under way.

"Evolutionary theory is one of the most powerful and fundamental theories in modern science. To describe it as 'controversial' is unbelievable," says one commenter.

Another argues that the theory was not well taught anyhow: "Once the teacher asked us who believed in evolutionary theory. I raised my hand. The teacher said: 'Are you a monkey then?'"

But on Facebook another commenter says: "I want to thank the government for preventing our youth to be poisoned by this rotten and absurd theory. There is nothing more natural than excluding it from the national curriculum."
Turkey's pugnacious president

On Wednesday, the head of the education ministry's curriculum board Alpaslan Durmuş announced that a section on Charles Darwin's Theory of Evolution would be excluded from biology textbooks in the ninth grade (14 and 15 year olds) from next year on.

Students are "too young to understand 'controversial subjects'", he said, adding that the topic will be delayed until undergraduate study.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has already approved the proposed changes to the national curriculum, which are expected to be published next week after the Muslim Eid ending the fasting month of Ramadan.

"Turkey will be the second country after Saudi Arabia that excludes theory of evolution from its curriculum," says Feray Aytekin Aydogan, the head of Egitim-Sen - a teachers' union representing over 100,000 members across the country.

"Even in Iran, there are 60 hours of lessons on evolution and 11 hours on Darwin himself," she adds.

The debate on the exclusion of the theory of evolution started early this year, when the draft curriculum for primary and secondary schools was announced.

Other changes include a decrease in the amount of time allocated to the life of Turkey's secularist founder Mustafa Kemal Ataturk.

The changes reportedly were proposed by a conservative teachers union close to the government and the government argues all amendments were publicly discussed and consulted upon.

The secular opposition in Turkey says that Mr Erdogan and the governing party are trying to move the country away from its founding values, and make the society more Islamic and conservative.

Mr Erdogan has already stated several times his goal of raising pious generations and Deputy PM Numan Kurtulmus had once described the theory of evolution as archaic.

Why does Charles Darwin eclipse Alfred Russel Wallace?

Islam acknowledges that God is the creator of everything, Adam was the first man created from clay and Eve was created from his ribs. The theory of evolution is not accepted in religious circles.

"Not only biology, but all classes are to be taught in a more religious context. This new curriculum is to produce very harmful results for our students and the future of this country," argues Feray Aytekin Aydogan.

"Turkey is being redesigned. That is the danger. Our teachers will be protesting out on the street and in the classrooms, they will carry on educating the students according to secular and scientific values no matter what the government does," she says.
>>
According to Wiki, Erdogan shut down fifteen universities in Turkey and suspended 15,200 people from the Ministry of Education, 21,000 teachers and another 5,342 from Turkish universities, far and away the largest segment to have lost their jobs during the purges after the 2016 coup attempt.

Japanese men are tying the digital knot with Virtual Reality brides – and the ceremony is just as strange as it sounds.
Footage from a bizarre ceremony in Tokyo Friday shows a suited Japanese groom exchanging vows with his cartoon VR girlfriend.

The ‘couple’ exchange vows and gaze into each other's eyes via VR headset before engaging in a remarkably awkward first kiss as husband and wife in front of their equally 'real' wedding guests.

The concept stems from the anime video game 'Niitzuma Lovely x Cation' in which players can develop and foster relationships with virtual girlfriends.

For players in particularly committed relationships with their anime paramours, the game’s creators developed a way for the couples to be joined together in virtual matrimony.

No update as of yet on how the couple spent their first night as husband and wife. On a separate note, VR sex suits are now a thing.

Customers are used to cellphone bill shock, but not like this.

The cost of U.S. cellular service is rapidly plunging, reversing years of increases that have squeezed consumers’ budgets and generated huge profits for wireless companies.

Americans are using their smartphones more than ever to stream videos, surf the web and browse Facebook. But telecommunications companies are losing their power to raise prices for using their networks, in part because the U.S. cellphone market is nearing saturation. That has kicked off a vicious price war among the four national wireless carriers.

The consumer-price index for wireless phone service, an indicator of current offers from cellphone service providers, dropped 12.5% in May from a year ago, according to the Labor Department. The index earlier fell 13% in April, the largest decline in the history of the category, prompting Federal Reserve Chairwoman Janet Yellen to say earlier this month it was a factor in the country’s low inflation.

Beyond the consumer impact, the rapid collapse in the industry’s pricing power will ripple through its profit margins, federal regulations and antitrust law.

T-Mobile US Inc. TMUS -0.25% and Sprint Corp. S -0.25% , the third and fourth largest carriers, recently rekindled talks about a merger, according to people familiar with the matter. The two previously discussed combining in 2014 but backed down in the face of regulatory opposition.

The rout could continue when the many consumers who haven’t felt the effects of price drops, unaware they can lower their monthly bills, call their carriers to demand better deals.

Selina Sosa, who runs a nonprofit near Dallas, cut her monthly bill by about a third in less than six months. Last December, she switched carriers from AT&T Inc. T -0.39% to Verizon Communications Inc., VZ -0.07% reducing her payment for three phones from $330 to $279.

In April, Ms. Sosa called Verizon with a billing question and an agent offered to switch her into an unlimited-data plan and lower her monthly bill by another $57. I didn’t even ask to reduce my payment, she said, adding she was relieved to save the extra cash.

Six years ago, the number of active cellphones surpassed the U.S. population. About 80% of Americans currently own a smartphone, according to CTIA, an industry trade group. Many have multiple devices. Consumers are also keeping their smartphones for longer periods, which means fewer customers are up for grabs.

Offers from wireless providers are becoming increasingly extreme. Sprint this month launched a short-term promotion to give away a free year of wireless service to new customers who supply their own mobile phones. The move comes months before Apple Inc. is expected to introduce its newest iPhone, which is when carriers typically roll out discounts.

The competition grew so intense during the first three months of this year that Verizon, the largest national carrier, suffered its first-ever quarterly subscriber loss. AT&T Inc. and Sprint also lost customers, and the industry’s total revenue growth slowed to 1% from a year ago, its lowest-ever rate, according to research from investment bank UBS. The quarter’s big winner was T-Mobile, which has been offering plans with favorable features.

A major reason for the steep decline in the wireless consumer-price index is companies’ return to unlimited-data plans. Back in 2010 and 2011, AT&T and Verizon ended their all-you-can-eat plans for smartphone customers and imposed monthly caps on usage. Executives for years said unlimited plans made little economic sense. In February, Verizon brought back unlimited plans to counter a wave of customer defections to T-Mobile and Sprint, which had both rolled out aggressive unlimited offers. Days later, AT&T responded with a new unlimited plan of its own. With the new plans, making calls and texting are essentially free.

Expensive overage fees that carriers impose when users exceed their monthly usage limit are also going away.

Verizon now charges $80 a month for an unlimited talk, text and data plan for a single line. Sprint charges $50 for a similar plan in the first year. In 2011, an unlimited Verizon plan cost $120 and one from Sprint cost $110.

Verizon Chief Executive Lowell McAdam said at a conference in May that adopters of its current unlimited plan are mostly people who used to have pricier subscriptions. He also predicts many customers with lower-price, capped-data plans will soon start paying more for unlimited service to avoid having to keep track of their monthly data usage.

“There are ebbs and flows for sure,” said Jeffrey Moore, head of Wave7 Research, which tracks wireless competition, “but I think that the past year has been the most aggressive time in wireless history.”

Cellphones are a major expense for many families. The average American household spent $1,074 for cellular service in the year to June 2016, up 77% from a decade earlier. Total household expenditures rose just 13% over that same period, according to Labor Department data.

If many people wind up paying less for their cellphone bills, it could free up consumer spending in other areas, similar to how a decline in gasoline prices can boost other parts of the economy.

For much of the past year, Niya Case, a human-resources specialist who lives near Tampa, Fla., was paying about $400 a month for four smartphones and two tablets, which belonged to her and family members.

“Oh my God, people pay less than that for a brand-new car,” the 38-year-old said she used to think when she looked at her bill from Sprint.

Ms. Case said she asked friends about less expensive offers and decided to switch providers a few weeks ago. She is now paying about $155 a month for four phone lines at T-Mobile and plans to put the savings toward school clothes for her children and a family cruise in the fall.

The changes have been punishing for wireless companies. After rising every quarter for 17 years, revenue from wireless data plans fell 0.33% in the first quarter of this year, according to industry consultant Chetan Sharma.

The slowdown is making companies look outside the industry for growth. AT&T plans to buy Time Warner Inc. for $85 billion, while Verizon has scooped up Yahoo and AOL to build a digital media business.

Some economists believe consolidation among the four national carriers could end the price war, because three competitors with roughly equal market share would behave less aggressively to maintain the status quo.

During a call with analysts last month, Sprint Chairman Masayoshi Son said he was looking to merge Sprint with another company and that T-Mobile was “the first priority.”

Sprint CEO Marcelo Claure said consolidation will make the industry even more competitive. “Sprint has been working hard to invest in its network and bring increased value to consumers, but as we look to the future, scale will be critical to sustaining competition,” he said in a written statement to The Wall Street Journal.
T-Mobile CEO John Legere spoke about consolidation in an April call with analysts. “I’m very comfortable that we could make a case that it is in the best interest of customers, of the country, of the industry versus the alternatives of the status quo,” Mr. Legere said.

If a deal does materialize, regulators recently appointed by President Donald Trump will need to revisit the state of competition in the market. The U.S. wireless market is already one of the nation’s most concentrated industries.

The big wireless carriers have acquired a host of national and regional cellular providers since 2000. In recent years, regulators have twice prevented the remaining four national players from consolidating to three.
