Is this going to be the Boyhood of music?
(aka a mediocre album with an aging/time passing gimmick that will blind people to its sub-par writing)
>can't into Boyhood
How subversive and unique.

>How subversive and unique.
It's a pretty shit film desu. Unmemorable characters, predictable and uninspired writing, shit-tier cinematography, if they wanted to make the film feel like watching paint dry and mundanity is the point then they succeeded but I honestly can't fathom how people could see such an uninspired poorly written film as the masterpiece the media tried to claim it was.

Ten years ago today, Long Island rock outfit Brand New released their third studio album, The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me. Their seminal work, the album is a bleak fifty-five minutes of post-hardcore-infused indie rock, drawing influence from Jawbreaker and Sunny Day Real Estate, as well as The Beach Boys, The Smiths, and Neutral Milk Hotel, whose 1998 work In the Aeroplane over the Sea is cited by Brand New frontman Jesse Lacey as "the most beautiful album ever written". Following up Déjà Entendu, an album with a more conventional alt rock sound than the band's early pop punk work, The Devil and God took a darker turn. The punchy guitar leads and braggadocios lines were replaced by subdued guitars, swinging dynamics, and brooding lyrics, creating an almost menacing atmosphere for the album's runtime. After romanticizing self-deprecation for years, Brand New spun the concept into blunt and brutally honest terms. Touching on everything from failed relationships with friends and family to insecurities about death and religion, The Devil and God represented the maturity of the five bandmates. The album was released to relative acclaim and cult status, and most still see it as their magnum opus a decade later.
Ten years have gone by, /mu/. What do you think of it?

Two years ago this thread would have been flooded with responses. I'm kind of sad to see the neglect this album is receiving now.
>>69195118
it's still good. One of my favorite of 2006, though that was a slow year.
Not the Sun and Degausser are the best songs.
Never heard a single Brand New song until I saw them live in Miami in July. They were pretty good but I haven't followed up. Should I just listen to this album?
ITT: great albums ruined by piss poor drumming

>people actually like MEGA
MEGA was a crock of shit.
The first 2 albums were vastly superior.
>>69193883
I agree, but I honestly only feel that because I have an emotial bond wih the first two albums.
They are all pretty much the same.
You only like the first two more because they are more familiar and BB didn't fuck around with you like MEGA.
>>69193883
MEGA wasn't too bad, nothing like the first two. Kinda wish he released singles and stuff between the time of Blank Banshee 2 and MEGA though.

Been stuck on finding more that I like. Not really getting the appeal of most huge rappers like Chance and Travis Scott. Anyone got a suggestions?

The fact that so many books still name the Beatles as "the greatest or most significant or most influential" rock band ever only tells you how far rock music still is from becoming a serious art. Jazz critics have long recognized that the greatest jazz musicians of all times are Duke Ellington and John Coltrane, who were not the most famous or richest or best sellers of their times, let alone of all times. Classical critics rank the highly controversial Beethoven over classical musicians who were highly popular in courts around Europe. Rock critics are still blinded by commercial success. The Beatles sold more than anyone else (not true, by the way), therefore they must have been the greatest. Jazz critics grow up listening to a lot of jazz music of the past, classical critics grow up listening to a lot of classical music of the past. Rock critics are often totally ignorant of the rock music of the past, they barely know the best sellers. No wonder they will think that the Beatles did anything worthy of being saved.

ive hated this idiot since day 1 when i heard him on a track with wayne. hate his voice and everything about him feels so fake.
He's a good artist ain't he? Nothing was the same is his best album by far, with Pound Cake probably being his best song. Views was a bit too long but overall the standout tracks made it a worthy listen, though its better to put on when you're out with friends.

DON'T THINK SO SCUM
Did Viper really lead such a ruthless life as he constantly insists he does throughout every single song he's rapped in? He is constantly talking about killing people, doing countless drugs, killing more people, and doing more drugs. But on his wikipedia it says he actually went to college, and briefly became a real estate agent (wtf?).
Is he all talk or has he actually killed many people.
Also is it me or does it seem like he actually seems very intelligent. I know every rapper who has ever lived boasts that they have the best flow or rhymes blah blah bl
ah, but it seems like viper raps about subjects with such lyricism and ease.
Is he actually a very impressive rapper compared to everyone else or is it just me?
viper the rapper is a genius
No way, he has to be lying. We've seen all these videos and pictures of him where he's just a typical norman. He has a fat ass white ex-wife, 2 BLACKED kids, and he's just a fat old psychopath who tweets in his shitty apartment all day while huffing crack residue.
He also fucks hookers after begging them to be in his "music videos"
He's a fucking hack
you will cowards?
