are drugs an important part of being literary? is it worth sacrificing a portion of your intellect for some insight granting experiences?
>>7743625
Pretty sure doing shrooms a couple of times a year apart isn't going to make you dumber.
its probably not. I had a friend who lost -50 intellect when he did E
>>7743639
I've heard of this, but then I also know people who did a fuckton of E and coke in college who are going to good medical and other grad schools.
What do you guys think of this essay? Is Hillard right about genius being originality and madness being its dark counterpart?

Is anyone even able to make sense of this shit? Or are you all just a bunch of dilettantes?
Floral Shoppe is the pinnacle of music. It is a genius deconstruction of all music and a harsh commentary on the superficiality of capitalism. Anyone who disagrees is unintelligent and does not belong on /mu/.

capitalism is so superficial dude. harsh criticism bra
>entire point of your career is to reveal the limiting presuppositions of discourse and free the dregs of society from tyrannies of meaning

its actually pretty straight forward
Did he regret his perversions in the end?
Why did he call it 1984 when the Patriot Act didn't get passed before 2001?

Which one do you own? What author do you want them to pick up? It will be cool if they pick Gene Wolfe.
I own some from Nabokov, Faulkner, Whitman, and Thoreau. The Thoreau edition is especially interesting as it contains several of the maps he made
I've got Whitman, Carver, and Vonnegut.
It'd be nice if they got Gaddis, but I doubt his works will ever be published with different pagination.
I own 2: Philip K. Dicks 60s novels and Wallace Stevens complete poetry and selected essays.
>a feminist reworking of Kafka's Metamorphosis...how can you rework The Metamorphosis into any damn thing
>>7743490
with Gene Wolfe's help, all is possible.
>>7743491
Why are you doing this
Why are women so fucking annoying?
what was this dude's problem?
It's difficult to live with large ambition but little talent.

He was born in Portugal.
What will happen when the allfather dies /lit?/
What will /lit/ be like?
>>7743464
His death will be the final nail in literature's coffin. He's like the last of a dying breed of literary academics who doesn't analyze everything through the lens of feminism or racism or some other -ism.
>>7743464
Gene Wolfe will ascend and take his place as the world's preeminent scholar of literature and literary criticism.
>>7743474
It decline of rationality in academics is unnerving, but to say Hardy here is the last of a dying breed is silly. Plus, just because he's in the right group doesn't mean he isn't a moron
Is Witty's private language argument sound? What's the problem with having a language spoken by only one person?
who cares lol :-P
>>7743476
Welcome friend, I hope you enjoy your stay here at /lit/ and I wish you many more (You)s.
>>7743457
I think it's pretty sound.
Language is a tool primarily to transfer information.
Since a single person would have nobody to transfer to, the language would be very restricted to the point of being completely useless.
Is there a more masculine writer than James Ellroy? Using the word "nigger" on almost every page has gotta count for something.
Nice squirrel gun, Pete Campbell.
Is that him?
Being so insecure as to posture like that is the antithesis of masculine.
Should I also read Xenophon's writings about Socrates? How does he differs from Plato?
>>7743409
don't bother, just read Gene Wolfe.
>>7743424
who?
Russian translated into English or French, what would be better/less awkward to read?
>>7743395
Depends on the book. For Dostoevsky, the idiot is better translated to French and the devils is better in English.
>>7743414
Ugh....so neither French nor English is closer to Russian in any way?
I thought maybe French grammar would better capture the Russian language.
>>7743516
They're pretty opposite m8. It feels like every Tolstoy book I read someone mentions the difference between the intimacy of French and the distance of Russian.
FUCK
I boodle over how to focus, read more, be healthier, be more effective, get more money, fuck hotter chicks, not stay depressed, be calm, cool, mindful,... and in the end I regularly have the realization that I just play into the Capitalistic scheme and to escape the class, work isn't enough, you must know people or do something radical that mostly doesn't work
what a fantastic movie!
what a fantastic set of digits!
you can't escape what ails you through that very self-same object!

who is the black metal of literature?
Bukowski. Intelligent, nihilistic and with a wicked sense of humor.
>>7743228
Kafka.
No actually, he's drone. Maybe Burroughs?
>>7743266
Burroughs is No Wave.
