Anyone here familiar with Henri Lefebvre? Mystical marxist and spatial theorist. I just started his THE PRODUCTION OF SPACE. Just wanted to see if there were any fans around better informed on Lefebvre than I.

"Banana Kiwi Fruit Prostitute"

Is going to be the title of your first novel. I can see it now, 1.5mil publisher advance, 5mil screenplay rights and full autonomy, the book about the book deal in the 7 figures, 500 million copies sold worldwide in the first 48 hours. The genius our generation needs. Thank you 4chan, you saved humanity again.

I'd read The Peloponnesian War by Thucydides before Aristophanes (otherwise it would be like watching The Thick of It, without knowing anything about British politics)

Why does everyone keep it on the downlow that Hamlet was fat? I thought that it was a major reason to why he acted the way he did.

Are there any good books written by someone that didn't read much, i.e. they are a good writer by are not influenced by previous authors or much of the canon (inasmuch as it is possible to learn to write without adopting certain historical influences through the language itself)?

Outsider literature is only endearing in its banality. The majority of it is garbage or schizophrenic manifestos. The whole concept of outsider art centers on patronization.

Who /mcelroy/ here? Why is this guy not bigger? I know experimental fiction suffers from a lack of readiability, but why is he excluded where Pynchon and Gaddis aren't.

"For hear us falling. Toward the horizon albeit oblique, for we imagine it isn’t our natural state. We are some power to be here and to have changed toward life even to think distinct from these angels lately to be heard speculating in us as if they were learning to hope. We deserve to know what is in us."

I'm reading The Letter Left to Me right now. Father/son stuff, real powerful stuff. He has a short story too, about this thing, where a father and baby learn to share a language and the whole thing blew me away. Every section of W/M does the same as well.

So what gives?

hello! let me explain to you, /lit/ is a part of 4chan. 4chan is inherently meme-versed and only meme-versed. mcelroy's talents, while good, are not meme-worthy. you seem to have confused discussion-worthy with meme-worthy. glad to have cleared it for you though.
>>
>>7742378
>but why is he excluded where Pynchon and Gaddis aren't.

Probably because he's actively preventing the publication of his most famous book?
>>
>>7743442
you raise a good point.

See I read stories like Night Soul or his book The Letter Left to Me and it feels like reading Delillo. Some kind ineffable thing not being expressed because communication is flawed, it feels like his stories are about what moves them more so than the plot itself. He just seems ahead of his time, but ultimately ignored.

Why do people find this book difficult?
Is it just due to the characters?
>>
>>7742369
it's that, the scientific terminology that (although not that complicated) can wear on people without a background in that field, and the vast amount of episodes that (seem to) have nothing to do with the previous one.

>>7742368
It's not exactly a masterpiece but it's still pretty good. It's not that difficult to read if you keep focused and don't just let it set in as you would a novel written in plain style. And check out the wiki for things that go over your head

First section is the hardest and then it gets easier to read even though everything gets crazier.

Or just read a plot summary.

Do you think literature is on its deathbed?

Is it the worst it has ever been?

Why don't we have a really big literary author in the 21st century yet?
23 posts and 1 images submitted.

not really
there's likely to be many undistinguished works published today that will bear some significance 100 years from now. Much of our culture is immersed in easy entertainment-- low tier film, comedy whatnot. Advances in technology may be the culprit. [We] now have twitter sized attention spans and scroll through the same facebook content aimlessly.

She's wearing clothing just like a man's because she's a strong independent woman.

But there are no bright colours or realistic weapons because this is serious fantasy not historical boring stuff that's for school only :^).

Do we really need more of these types of novels? With the fucking terrible made up names, and the bastardized Tolkien mythology and the generic its just Europoor in the Xth medieval century setting which screams lazy uninspired unimaginative writing with no soul or desire to raise the bar for something that is already ankle high.

I swear to fucking god, you could literally make millions writing a parody of these High Fantasy trash tier novels, but the irony would be nobody gets that its a parody and you can't help buy be sincere in writing the billion sequels that follow.

Why doesn't someone write a High Fantasy novel series where elves have three dicks and just rape everyone, and dwarves are actually hermaphrodites and their beards actually hide a chest cloaca which they are self conscious about, and humans are actually not humans but have like 8 arms, 2 regular ones, then 3 sets of smaller ones around their nipples that fan out like petals on a flower, and sex is mostly just interlocking your nipple fingers. And instead of swords everyone just uses shields and spears, but the spears are actually really long snakes so its more like snake whips, and the shields are super brittle for an unexplained reason and also edible, like made of wafers or sea cucumbers or something, but they're delicious. And people have pet dolphins, but it's super inconvenient to carry your dolphin around so some guy invents a dolphin pack which straps to your back, and you just walk around as adventurers with your dolphins strapped to your back, having to stop every couple of miles to find water for them. And the dolphins help you live or something because the planet is polluted and they filter the bad air with the blow holes and then blow it back into your mouth with a tube attachment.

There. literally 30 seconds of rambling is more fantasy than you'll get on a fucking lifetime of reading this garbage.
