Is there a /lit/ discord? Maybe for discussion of books, weekly books everyone reads together, literature reviews, recommendations etc?
yeah....there is.
It's sad.
>>9912013
l-link? Why's it sad?
You mean like /lit/?
what can you tell me about Haruki Murakami?
Author of kitschy magical realism YA for girls you want to fuck in spite of their total lack of a personality
>>9911946
He looks like a teacher I once had.
One day when the students in his Japanese culture class managed to get him riled he burst out that Australia had no culture.
He was right but, what a cunt.
He writes YA but gets a free pass because of trendy magical realism
>tfw haven't lost an online argument since 2012
>tfw able to win debates on subjects I know nothing about equipped with nothing but my personal opinion and eloquence
>tfw untrollable
Where do I go from here? Writing is for brainlets...
>>tfw haven't lost an online argument since 2012
ok lets test your skills, prove the holocaust happened
Convince me that I need to delete this picture as soon as possible
Write a collection of aphorisms.
Is learning a language just to read (a) certain text(s) worth the time and effort involved?
For example, would learning German to read Nietzsche, Kant, etc. or Ancient Greek to read Plato be worth all of the extra sunken costs as opposed to reading English translations of their works?
It's almost certainly not worth the effort, but it's fun regardless.
>>9911743
If you have to ask then the answer is no. You'll end up studying for a bit before quitting so don't bother.
>>9911759
Well I already speak Spanish and can learn languages very easily, I'm just seriously interested in the opportunity cost or cost:benefit of learning a new language to read/understand a text better vs. just reading the stuff translated in English.

Have you read the book?
It also serves as a magic amplifier for wizards and elves
Why isnt the anarchist cookbook labeled a bible yet?
Fair warning to everyone. Don't post in this thread.
Mods you should probably delete this.
>>9911585
it should be a bible. there are so many different versions around. every so often one group or another releases a new edition where they've messed with the bomb recipes so they'll explode in your face if you try to make them.
>>9911771
>one group or another releases a new edition where they've messed with the bomb recipes so they'll explode in your face if you try to make them

Actually grow the fuck up
You do realize I absolutely destroyed and squashed that diagnosis right? The only person who matters doesn't believe it anymore, I fucking win lol.
Was he really a Conservative?
Yes, you should be asking if he really was a marxist.
>>9911535
More or less.
But these kinds of labels don't matter. He was one of the greatest minds we've ever had.
>>9911542
>if he really was a marxist
no

Daily reminder
Faith is the only reason to ever believe you should ever care about others
Faith is the only reason to ever believe others care about you
Faith is the only reason to ever believe you shouldn't kill yourself right now
Faith is the only reason to ever believe the word Love means absolutely anything
>faith is a reason to believe something
>faith
>a reason
i agree with the sentiment here but come on
You could have just said faith=belief and saved yourself some time.
>>9911484
True faith is reason
Reason negating reason. Faith is not to suspend the truth, faith is a trust in what you know to be true even if our limited reason itself fails it.
Hey /lit/, i just wrote a short story and my brother told me to post it here, tell me what you think!

Virgin detected. It has some of that stuff but its harrdly front and center. Some guy gets virgin shamed tho. He's like 35 too
>>9911270
>Virgin detected
You have to go back
>>9911264
It's pure dreck. There is no reason that this book even exists, other than a drunk trying to cash in on an already established literary movement after-the-fact. It's like Infinite Jest in the fact that it's an addict who thought his life was interesting enough to warrant dredging the artistic pond for rusted artifacts from 40 years ago.
Don't bother. I read it cover-to-cover and wholly regret it. I can get specific if you have questions. If you want to read something modernist, go for Miller, Joyce. If you want something elevating and difficult that's more modern, go for Krasz. Please listen to me so you don't waste any of your precious life on this like I did.
>stop reading long novels
>>9911255
Begin with The Aspern Papers.
Just finished The Portrait of a Lady. Never seen so much good writing and trashy genre fiction-tier shit packed together in a single book.
>>9911541
It's early, rigid shit, man, and SHOULD NOT be required reading. It took him awhile to become a great novelist. But when he does, he's matchless. The early shorter stuff is hit or miss.
>I was a Flower of the mountain yes
>when I put the rose in my hair like the Andalusian girls used or shall I wear a red yes
>and how he kissed me under the Moorish Wall and I thought well as well him as another and then I asked him with my eyes to ask again yes
>and then he asked me would I yes
>to say yes
>my mountain flower and first I put my arms around him yes
>and drew him down to me so he could feel my breasts all perfume yes
>and his heart was going like mad and yes
>I said yes
>I will Yes.
Is this the greatest ending in literature ?

So, how do you guys feel about Krasznahorkai? As of late, I've been reading Satantango and Destruction and Sorrow Beneath the Heavens, and I've got to say that his prose has that rare quality of "opening worlds", that is, subtle and novel connections in the chaos of Being, that marks all great art. What would you say are his beat works? I was interested in War & War.
i really, really like him
war & war is my favourite, having read all of his stuff that's been translated into english so far
>>9911065
Correct me if I'm wrong, but did he write War & War in English? Or at least, I've always seen it tagged as his "second english novel"
>>9911014
I read Melancholy of Resistance whilst slumming it in North North Africa (Spain, France, Germany) and I found it to be simply amazing
