I know it's considered to be a terrible book on this board, and I don't really have much interest in it, but everybody talks about it so much—both negatively and positively—that I feel obligated to read it myself. My pleb friend said that it's the best book of the 20th century and I'd kind of like to read it just so I can insult his taste more thoroughly. Is it worth it ?

Is this the most /metal book ever? Just finished reading it. Fucking loved it from beginning to end. Ishmael is a lovable obsessive and the chapters where he goes on and on about how boss Sperm Whales are are my favorite.
Watched the Gregory Peck movie. It sucked.

Was wondering if you anyone could help me recognize a short story?
I read it many years ago.
It was about a man living in the future, who's alarm rang in the morning and a robot arm of some kind took him out of bed, showered him, made breakfast etc. And then put him in a car and the car drove the man to his job, but when the man arrived it turned out that he was dead.
Help would be much appreciated.

Please recommend me a book that has a vibe like this:
Wise advice (ideally from an old man) about having to decide to "play the game" in life as a young man and not knowing if it will make you feel more isolated. that is to say, maybe there's a character that's confronted with the dilemma of being constantly uncertain and alienation from others vs. deliberately becoming a character (putting on a mask) in order to engage culture/society, dealing with having to make life changing decisions and not directly expressing doubts about existence or how to behave. Looking for advice for this phase of my life.

So i read on here somewhere that unfortunately nowadays a budding writers online social media presence is influential to their success.
If so, is mastering Twitter and gaining a following something one requires if they want any sorta recognition? If so..how does one do this without being edgy or a camwhore?
Kinda wanna selfpublish a Christmas story I've got saved up as well as I'm odd bits of flash fiction before working toward short story collections.
Is it necessary? I have a Facebook for the few friends i have but twitter is something I've never used before and i feel I'd probably say something inappropriate soon anyway.
