Is this The Avengers of books?
Dude lighten up its a fun book haha
It was a book about zombies when such a thing didn't really exist. Even though it was a steaming pile, people lapped it up because it was the only thing there.

Elves and dwarves don't exist, but book homos act like Middle Earth was a real place
I know it's considered to be a terrible book on this board, and I don't really have much interest in it, but everybody talks about it so much—both negatively and positively—that I feel obligated to read it myself. My pleb friend said that it's the best book of the 20th century and I'd kind of like to read it just so I can insult his taste more thoroughly. Is it worth it ?
I felt exactly like you. I read it a few weeks ago and it wasn't really worth it, but I can talk about it now.
I doubt there is a single library in America that doesn't have at least one foul smelling, dog eared, underlined, crack spined copy of this book. Go forth, Anon. Venture out onto the sidewalk, and find a copy of this most essential book, (or buy a digital copy so you don't have get up) and then you too can join in the eternal debate: was it shit or no?

While you're pleb friend sounds like they have a tendency for exaggeration, I thought it was really solid.
Is this the most /metal book ever? Just finished reading it. Fucking loved it from beginning to end. Ishmael is a lovable obsessive and the chapters where he goes on and on about how boss Sperm Whales are are my favorite.
Watched the Gregory Peck movie. It sucked.

Was wondering if you anyone could help me recognize a short story?
I read it many years ago.
It was about a man living in the future, who's alarm rang in the morning and a robot arm of some kind took him out of bed, showered him, made breakfast etc. And then put him in a car and the car drove the man to his job, but when the man arrived it turned out that he was dead.
Help would be much appreciated.

Please recommend me a book that has a vibe like this:
Wise advice (ideally from an old man) about having to decide to "play the game" in life as a young man and not knowing if it will make you feel more isolated. that is to say, maybe there's a character that's confronted with the dilemma of being constantly uncertain and alienation from others vs. deliberately becoming a character (putting on a mask) in order to engage culture/society, dealing with having to make life changing decisions and not directly expressing doubts about existence or how to behave. Looking for advice for this phase of my life.

DO YOU PEOPLE EVEN READ
>A destiny that leads the English to the Dutch is strange enough; but one that leads from Epsom into Pennsylvania, and thence into the hills that shut in Altamont over the proud coral cry of the cock, and the soft stone smile of an angel, is touched by that dark miracle of chance which makes new magic in a dusty world.
>Each of us is all the sums he has not counted: subtract us into nakedness and night again, and you shall see begin in Crete four thousand years ago the love that ended yesterday in Texas.
>The seed of our destruction will blossom in the desert, the alexin of our cure grows by a mountain rock, and our lives are haunted by a Georgia slattern, because a London cutpurse went unhung. Each moment is the fruit of forty thousand years. The minute-winning days, like flies, buzz home to death, and every moment is a window on all time.
>This is a moment:
Have the book but haven't read it yet. Been saving it, because I can already tell from the opening that it's going to be a work of art and I'll want to savour the first time I read it.
i didn't really like this
main character was oh-so-obviously an idealized version of the author, to the point where literally the only flaw i remember him having was that he was too smart for the other students to like him

Kek.
Really disappointed this wasn't a version of his journal with additional notes, or even a real account of his journey. Most of it was the author bragging about how much cooler he is than McCandless.
So i read on here somewhere that unfortunately nowadays a budding writers online social media presence is influential to their success.
If so, is mastering Twitter and gaining a following something one requires if they want any sorta recognition? If so..how does one do this without being edgy or a camwhore?
Kinda wanna selfpublish a Christmas story I've got saved up as well as I'm odd bits of flash fiction before working toward short story collections.
Is it necessary? I have a Facebook for the few friends i have but twitter is something I've never used before and i feel I'd probably say something inappropriate soon anyway.

Check the rest of Bolaño's work.
I guess you already know Borges, so you should read the other great inspiration of Bolaño: Roberto Arlt.
