That's one big fucking library anon.
Anyone feel like listening to an anon read "How to read literature like a professor" by Thomas C Foster
I might fuck up a bit because I'm not used to reading out loud or pronouncing a bit of the words in here
and might stop a few times to summarize the main ideas in writing/words
>>8451799
yes
>>8451799
This book is a literal meme. I'm surprised Fister manages to mention literature at all given the time he takes everyou chapter to suck off Toni Morrison
Sounds neat. Do it.
Let's make up good titles or discuss ones we think are exceptional.
Questions:
What makes a good title?
What titles are only good because of the actual book itself?
What titles are the only redeeming quality of a book?
Why are titles so hard?
>>8451733
Ultima Aesthetica
>>8451734
bad
there's this mediocre book called "Oh the Glory of It All," always thought that title was kinda nice

Beasts by Joyce Carol Oats?
As the title says how do I properly start with the greeks because even though there are several imagecharts with books about it, every time someone posts them he get told that its lacking books and considering how important context is in both literature and philosophy I really don't want to miss something so please help me.

Ok, first you need to learn Homeric Greek.
How long do you guys and grills usually allow a book to digest before starting another one?
Unless the book was trashman or left absolutely no impression on me at all I usually take a minimum of two days. During this time I might investigate the life of the author a little bit, read a critical essay he wrote, or even look into a research paper or two if I have unresolved issues. I might go back and write down passages I thought especially beautiful or skillful, and will usually mull the author and his associated paraphernalia when I go on walks and such.
I also usually read something light and short in the interim. I'm currently reading Willie Masters' Lonesome Wife to kind of cleanse my pallet a bit and get the taste of the previous author out of my mouth [which is a really fucking fun book btw.]
honestly I'll finish a book and put it down. wait a few seccond then pick up another book.
>>8451411
Even with a book like Neuromancer I'll wait a day at least. Don't you feel like things run together; like your fillet tastes uncomfortably like your soup.
>>8451442
that's pretty dumb. I'll think about the book I just finished for a few days while reading my new one.
I'm interested in Christianity. I've only ever been exposed to Christianity from a Protestant perspective, and the only Bible I've owned was a NIV translation I got at school.
What translation should I read? Why?
What other sources should I read while or before I read the Bible? Why?
>Go ask /pol/ and /lit/'s shitty offspring
No
>>8451351
Latin vulgate would be best, if you can, but I do the new american version, which can be rough at times. Douay-Rheims is also recommended. The only other book that I strongly recommend for a beginner is Augustine's confessions, but Pope Benedict XVI has some excellent writings.
>>8451351
>What translation should I read?
A translation approved by the Catholic Church.
>Why?
Because is the one true church, that keeps the fullness of truth.
>>8451351
>I'm interested in Christianity.
I would like to start learning philosphy (anything is okay) what would you recommend?

Moe Szyslak's definition of Postmodernism is still the best one we have?
ummm.. no? who even is that? why is he yellow?
>>8451306
about as good as it gets bc the definition is in regards to architecture, which is how it has been historicized irl
>>8451306
eh it's not that great. it fits better with stuff that is nothing but "le quirky random xD" that you see in contemporary "art"
pomo at least at some connections to modernism and the canon as a whole. even if it was subverting it, the derridean "trace" shows what it is not is present in the opposite, so "weird for the sake of being weird" doesn't really apply.
