or did Nazi boy steal all his work from Husserl?
He's one of greatest philosophers of all time so yes.

isn't Being and Time generally considered good?
>>8502522
Yes it is. It's a hard read though.
>Life would go out in a 'fraction of a second' (that was the phrase), but all night he had been realizing that time depends on clocks and the passage of light. There were no clocks and the light wouldn't change. Nobody really knew how long a second of pain could be. It might last a whole purgatory--or for ever.

If a key can get into any lock, it must be a very good key.
But if a lock can be broken into by any shitty key, then it's not a very good lock.

Any other fans of post-modernist Arab literature here? After reading Yusuf al-Ani's "The Key" in English I've been monkeying around with the Arabic version, but I feel that my lack of experience with the language inhibits my full appreciation of it. To me it's really definitive of the genre.
>>8502180
>monkeying around
That better not be racist
I've never read any post-modernist Arab lit but from what little I've read of annotated classics I wouldn't even approach it for shame of all the untranslatable typographical puns I'd be missing
>>8502205
No racism intended.
Arabic as a language lends itself heavily to poetic expression. I once read a poem on the subject of night, and practically slapped myself when I realized that the poet had deliberately written the entire poem using only what are called "moon letters". Not a single sun letter was used. There is a level of craft to certain Arab works that is astonishing when you know enough to dissect it.
bump, surely I can't be alone
My favorite authors so far are: Jorge Luis Borges, Franz Kafka, Philip K. Dick, and Stephen King.

V. G. Jan: Chingiz-khan and Batu khan
Great novels. It's in Russian though and I don't know if there is any English translation. Only found this:
http://www.worldcat.org/title/dzsingisz-kan-regeny/oclc/222729381
Hello /lit/, I have a somewhat strange search request that I was hoping some of you may be able to help me out with. I have loose recollections of a novel that I saw 5+ years ago, and hopefully ya'll can help me piece together the clues to find the book.
I'm pretty sure it had a one word title to it, some kind of verb possibly regarding speed or fleeing or something, like "Flight" or something.
I know it had something to do with bounty hunters, or just like people hunting each other. It was definitely a thriller. I know for a fact that it was an older book.
I can vaguely remember it having a minimalist cover, predominately red, and maybe a black or white background.
Finally, I'm not sure if this is relevant or not, but I know I saw the book in one of my college classes. The thing is I'm not sure if it was in the banned books class I had, so it may be a banned book or not, which may help.
Any help you can give is appreciated!
Thank you!

should i consider compiling excerpts from my notebook collection of drug influenced and somewhat sober ramblings?
i'm not bothered about actually getting published though
is the 'if they build it they will come' mentality worthwhile?
>>8501987
Why not?
If you collect excerpts on an ebook, share the link friendo. The average lit populace read depressing stuff anyway.
>>8502045
yeah i'll probably do this after i've been writing for a while and can actually select some worthwhile material
I wouldn't bother, straight white men who are a bit useless and have some mild drug dependency don't provide insight to the zeitgeist, nor even to themselves. Just keep smoking weed, enjoy it!
How does /lit/ write? Any routines or strategies to sitting down and getting to work?

Instead of making a new thread let me hijack this one, it's my first time doing an essay in English, it's only a 400 word practice. Can I use quote from the text I'm doing an essay on? If so how often and how should I mark them? I'm asking because I can do it in my primary language and I don't want to mix both.
How does /lit/ feel about Stephen King?
>>8501911

>>8501911
Maybe 10% of his entire ouvre, however many thousands of pages that is, is memorable, and mostly in the comfy sense and not the actual literary merit sense.

Could you explain?
