How is Late Capitalism a term used by psueds. It's an actual term used far and wide throughout academia. I think you're a fuckin psued you get offended over so many words without context of their use.

Is it worth it to study English/Literature in college if I want to be a writer even though my parents are probably going to cut me off and basically disown me as a result
>>8505578
If you're gonna have to pay for it because your government hates you, then I'd be a lot more careful about the decision, but if you live in a first world country where they pay for your course, then go for it man
No
Dont be silly
> study English/Literature in college

Its amazing. Not only for being a great book but also because it makes the left mad.
Is anyone else actually reading this, rather than just memeing about it?
I just finished Chapter 3 the other day. Supposedly it's called "Proteus"? Anyway, I didn't think it was as hard as most people make it out to be. It certainly was beautiful, though.

I've always thought the whole "Ulysses is incomprehensible" thing was at least half a meme. Then again, I live in Glasgow, which makes all the cultural allusions and city geography a lot more accessible than to most people I guess.
>>8505535
You don't even know the name of the chapter, let alone its significance, and you're telling me it's easy? The only reason you think it's easy is because you have virtually no idea how much information is going over your head right now.

Somebody (I can't remember whether it was an actual critic or just a shitposting anon) said that the Homeric allusions to the odyssey were of tremendous importance to the writing of Ulysses but are of minimal importance to the reading of it.
I've been reading the bible every day all day for the past five months.

>Now we can get to the Gospels and their accounts of Jesus’s death. Our earliest Gospel is Mark’s (written about 70 CE — that is, about 40 years after the events it narrates). In Mark, the disciples ask Jesus “Where do you want us to prepare the Passover for us” (Mark 14:12). He gives them their instructions, and so, on this day of “Preparation,” they get everything ready. That evening, after it gets dark, they eat with Jesus the Passover meal. He takes the symbolic bread and breaks it, instilling yet greater symbolism in it: “This is my body.” He takes a cup of wine and instills greater symbolism: “This is my blood of the covenant.” After they finish eating the meal, they go to the Garden of Gethsemane, where Jesus prays until the betrayer Judas Iscariot comes with the troops and he is arrested. Jesus spends the night in jail, is put on trial early the next morning, is condemned, and is then crucified at 9:00 am, on the day of Passover, the morning after he had eaten the meal (Mark 15:25). That’s Mark’s version.
>Our final Gospel to be written was John (possibly around 90–95 CE, some 20 years or so after Mark, and about 60–65 years after the death of Jesus). Here, too, Jesus goes to Jerusalem for the Passover. Here, too, he eats a last meal with his disciples (John 13–17). But in this account the disciples never ask Jesus where he wants them to prepare for the Passover meal, and the meal is not described as a Passover meal. Moreover, in John Jesus does not take the Passover foods of bread and cup and instill any new significance in them. It’s just a meal. Afterward, Jesus goes out to pray, he’s arrested, spends the night in jail, is put on trial, and is condemned to be crucified. And we’re told exactly when this took place: “And it was the Day of Preparation for the Passover, about noon” (John 19:14).
>The Day of Preparation for the Passover? How could it be the “Day of Preparation for the Passover”? According to Mark’s Gospel, Jesus lived through that day, had the disciples prepare the Passover, and that night ate the Passover meal, only to be crucified the next morning at 9:00 am (not after noon). What’s going on here?

The White Hall. A schizophrenic 28-year old gas station attendant in Daly City, California likes to walk around in San Francisco, California at night and smoke cigarettes and sometimes walks into apartment buildings he doesn't live in or know anyone at. One gray Sunday morning he walks into an apartment building, goes to the top floor which is an empty white hall with a brown rug between one apartment and the elevator lobby. The apartment door is closed but the man checks if it's unlocked and it is. He walks in. It's empty and it's being repainted. It smells like paint. The door closed, suddenly, his ears start ringing and he drops on the ground and starts convulsing. For a few days he has abduction nightmares. He returns to the empty apartment another Sunday morning smokes a cigarette and nothing happens. That night he still has an abduction nightmare. He talks to his doctor. His doctor changes his medication. He sleeps that night. But after that first night of sleep his nightmares return. He decides to stay the night in the empty apartment because he thinks its more peaceful there. He takes his sleeping bag. He sleeps in the empty apartment with the heater on. The next morning he eats Burger King on Market St. He can't stay at the apartment anymore so he goes home. There are some scenes where he's at Dolores Park and another where he's in the Presidio. The book ends with a scene where he gets on a muni bus from Market street at night going to Daly City after playing chess with some old bums at the Powell BART station.
Purity. A 32 year old city college professor evangelizes on Saturdays in San Francisco and teaches Sunday school to adults at a Spanish-speaking Pentecostal church that is mostly Latino. He's slim, dresses well, and slicks his hair. He also sings in the jangly and reverby Christian rock band at his church. He starts dating a white-American woman and over time gets her to attend church with him. The story ends with their getting married.
Bomber. 24 Islamic terrorists strap bombs to themselves and suicide bomb the financial district in San Francisco at the same time. The plot follows the lives of ten different individuals during and after the event.
