Apparently actual scholars of the New Testament and historians of Christianity consider his thesis old and discredited, and his book little more than pop history entertainment

You would be far better off with Geza Vermes, Bart Ehrman (his earlier less clickbaity stuff), Burton Mack, Elaine Pagels, or Luke Timothy Johnson if you want some faith in your historical-critical analysis.

As a layman having read the stuff above and more, this book is walking an old old road, and I have heard a bit of this >>8532777 as well.

The only reason this sold well was because some bitch on fox news called him a a pig fucking muslim.

Sup, /lit/?

I think my German is good enough now for me to read some good poetry in original. Can you recommend some good stuff? Collections or anthologies? And which German publishers have the best editions?

Thanks.

Pic semi-related.

For feels:
Rainer Maria Rilke

Easy fun:
Heinz Erhardt

Harder, but valuable:
Goethe

High school tier:
Schiller's Die Glocke and Goethe's Prometheus

Depri tier:
Trakl, Celan (Todesfuge)
>>
>>8532757
Thanks.

I might start with Rilke because of the feels.

Reclam Universal-Bibliothek has a collection of his poems for around 7 Euros. Is that publisher shit? It looks like German Wordsworth Classics, but I may be wrong.
>>
>>8532775
Reclam is great.

Also you might wanna check out Heinrich Heine, he can be really funny and I think he's fairly easy to read.

I would not assign any worth to McCarthy's works after Blood Meridian.

They are pulp, lacking depth. Easily ignorable.
>>
>>8532748
>They are pulp, lacking depth.
Having a man named Ely saying "There is no God and we are his prophet" is the deepest thing Cormac McCarthy has ever written in his life.

I'm reading a bit of wikipedia on this man after seeing some of his quotes.
I've only got a few college intro courses-worth of education on ethics and economics, so I don't feel like I'm getting enough out of the article.
But god damn do these pic-related-types of statements resonate with me. I'd love to know more.

Does anyone have a favorite book of his they can direct me to as a starting point? Or any similar gospel?

The implementation of his fiscal policies tanked the economies of the US and UK in 1980s. The modified version of said policies subsequently tanked the US and UK economies in the 1990s and 2000s, and will likely tank them again this decade.

/lit/, I have an opportune chance to go do an MA. Should I do it? My BA was in philosophy but I didn't really learn a lot.I was thinking of studying something like soc or anthro but they seem as useless as my BA was.

What would you MA be in and why?
16 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
>>8532539
Liberal arts, namely sculpture. Because it's awesome.
>>
>>8532539
Don't you have to do the MA in what you majored in?
>>
>>8532539

Can you do it for free, or at least without debt? I'm sorry to be that guy but how will you support yourself with a masters of arts? I'm doing a postgraduate diploma in accounting and it's brutal for someone used to humanities stuff, but at least I know that the average CPA makes 60k a year, so there's light at the end of the tunnel if I somehow manage to survive the next few years. Even if I don't get my letters I'll still be useful as a bean counter somewhere.

>>8532552

But sculpture is fine arts. Unless your talking about art history with a focus on sculpture that is. Fine arts majors exist to make arts majors feel better about their job prospects.

That sounds more lazy than interesting

Can anyone recommend to me any good, comfy books that take place during the Imperial Century, particularly those that have to do with imperialism, interactions of Europeans and indigenous peoples, colonialism, expeditions, trade, etc?

Trade expeditions in exotic lands, pirates, politics and disputes of colonial powers, opium dens, secret societies... that kind of stuff.

It can be before or after if it fits the bill, and I am interested in the 18th century as well, but I'm generally most interested in the Imperial Century, 1815-1915.

A couple examples that I guess somewhat fit the content or aesthetic that I read and enjoyed are Mason and Dixon (although earlier) and Heart of Darkness.

I'm particularly quite interested in British Singapore during the imperial century, from its founding on.

Fiction preferred, but non fiction is also fine (especially about Singapore).

Thanks, /lit/.
