The White Nights
>NEET protagonist with zero friends
>Jealous of normalfags headed to the country for holiday
>Meets a grill crying about Chad and makes her his waifu
>Affects the manner of a chivalrous "white knight" in an attempt to impress the girl with his knowledge of polite behavior
>Falls immediately in love despite many clear signs of disinterest
>Keeps talking as if his life was a novel he was reciting
>Gets friend zoned by his Waifu
>In the end she runs away with Chad
Is there a more /r9k/ character in all of literature than "The Dreamer" from White Nights?
28 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
/r9k/ is about spite and hatred for women and saying "peepee poopoo" and posting porn all day. Not just being a naive young guy in love who doesn't know better and has an excessively romantic idea of life.
>>
>>8536391
that's true until they find a normalfag grill to obsess over
>>
>>8536397
A "Stacy"?

/r9k/ is Elliot Rodgers, not the White Nights guy. He's just naive, they're bitter, hateful nobodies full of resentment toward those who are normal, because they aren't. They make up stories about sibling incest and torturing women. The White Nights guy was just lonely and naively hopeful, he's a tragic character, not a repulsive asshole.

If you had to bring one philosopher back to help interpret our times, who would it be?

Jesus
Imagine how many things it would settle.

Interesting question. My favorite philosophers are Kant and Wittgenstien, but I honestly don't know if they'd have much more to say, since what they said is so universal/not topical.

Maybe Nietzsche?

who /selfconcious/ about reading big books in public? At first I didnt really pay any mind, but after like two years of commute to work and back home, I've gotten several comments and questions about what I'm reading and the size.

I dont know why people are so intrusive, and why it bothers them, but every now and then if i'm carrying an obesse 800 pager or more I gotta deal with some shitty condescending remark or incredulous glare. I had several people come up to me while I was reading Underworld, two of them thought it was some sort of Stephen King-esque horror thriller and when they ask what the fuck am I supposed to explain? should I be a shit about it and tell them to mind their own business? because fuck if I'm gonna explain what Against the Day or Executioner's Song is about, they'll call the damn cops on me. This shit even happens when I remove the cover.

What is the logos, In the stoic sense,I think I have a gist of it. The logos is the rationale and reason behind the universe and within you, it is.. God, providence? Can I get a concrete answer, I tried google but it didn't really come to me.

Thanks

Logos is the logic/reason underpinning all existence

ofc if god is to exist, he must exist within logos or logos must be an expression of his will. for things are as they are and cannot be as they are not, therefore there is reason/meaning to things as they are which is why they are not what they are not.
>>
>tels are so stupid they think 'Logos' means one thing
back to lebbit please
>>
>>8535812
Depends on who you're reading.

I like Heidegger's best.

Logos from Legein: to gather.

Logos doesn't equal logic, but rather logic is derived from logos, which is the gathering.

you will be reading shakespeare without reading shakespeare

Has any book ever evoked an emotional empathy within you that is as profoundly affectionate as they are seemingly personal?
Books that remind you of the beauty of existance; of all the lives that enable us, and fill our individually faceted perspectives with completely unique narratives each to their own.
Books that make you want to share, to love and to understand, to be completely vulnerable with someone.
I'm talking about remedies against that pervasive evil force that has seemingly engulfed the modern world-apathy!

Also why do you read books in the first place? If not for living vicariously, intellectual growth, validation then what?

only anime does this to me, a visceral response requires appeal to multiple senses rather than perhaps the impression of the senses.

Thereby a visual medium will have more impact than a written medium, however both are still below experiencing the heights of both and this realization readily leads to Weltschmerz.

What I want to feel cannot match what I imagine I want.
>>
Every time someone asks for a book that will change their life or give them a new point of view- you really can't predict that kind of thing. No book is guaranteed to give you catharsis. Books that changed or had a great effect on one reader may have no effect on you at all. It may be that someone picked up a certain book at just the right time in their life, but who is to say it will have the same impact on you? The only solution is to read constantly or as often as you can, so that you can come across the book that will leave its mark on you.

>Has any book ever evoked an emotional empathy within you that is as profoundly affectionate as they are seemingly personal?

It might be that English isn't your first language, but this is confusing. What is the "they (are personal)" referring to? You've switched from the second person to the third.

>Also why do you read books in the first place?
Because I enjoy reading. I can't give a simpler reason than that.
