>the duality of man
Is this some sort of meaningless phrase pseuds use to sound deep? I can't imagine it meaning anything non-retarded

How can the animal that created the Symphony, also orchestrate the Holocaust?

The Bible teaches duality — man is composed of body and soul that exist together harmoniously. This is different from dualism — body and soul are opposed to one another. We must be careful to take care of our bodies by eating well, exercising, and such things, because how we care for ourselves reflects what we think about God’s image. Consider how you care for yourself and what you must do to be healthy and glorify God with your lifestyle.

that's not what people mean when they say "the duality of man"

I recently posted about how there is some serious bullshit going on in my English literature course in Sweden and got called out as a liar.

Here is an excerpt from my A-course schedule in English Literature.

"You should also become aware of some of the most well known critical approaches to literature, such as feminist criticism. Marxist criticism and postcolonial criticism. You will find short descriptions of some approaches in the compendium."

So now my question, is there any serious literature courses that focus on actual ENGLISH literature such as Shakespeare? The shit we read now is "postcolonial poetry" where we have to review "poetry" such as "Colonization in reverse" by Louise Bennet. And i feel like i am going to throw up.

I got a stem degree because it's almost impossible to politicize and provides job opportunities. I study literature on my own time so I can do it the way I want. I can hold my own in discussions with my friends that are taking lit degrees.

>sci fi book set more than 50 years/far in the future

Why do they do this? How do they not realize how stupid that is?

It's almost like eternal life and eternal youth have been ideas that have plagued man's conscience for all of time.
>>
>>8533313
But in the future aging will be solved. It makes no fucking sense to do things like time travel or other conceptual super-advanced things in a sci-fi and then pretend the same civilization hasn't already solved aging. Aging is not as complex as FTL or creating matter from nothing etc etc., it's a thing we will DEFINITELY fix. So why use it as a plot point? It's like making a sci-fi in the '95 and making it a plot point that gif's take 10 minutes to load in a story set in 2040

What the fuck is up with this book and its run on sentences?

Its hard enough to follow whats going on with its dull, even pace that doesn't vary depending on whats happening, and sometimes you lose track and not realize someone has died, and no quotation marks which jut makes it more confusing and when the characters don't emote like they are some kind of weird sociopathic characters that don't react like human beings and although I think the language is beautiful it really paints a picture that tugs at my heart strings I mean im sitting on the train reading this and it casts a fierce bout of emotion but its hard to keep up with whats going on or giving a shit.

You know why? Because the run on sentences. They go for fucking entire paragraphs! Pages! How come I can't do that in my essays but this guy is considered a modern genius?! What possible artistic purpose could it serve other than make fall asleep?

Run on sentences don't exist.
It's just some shit made up because Americans are retards and can't remember more than 5 words.

As long as a sentence is grammatically correct there is no impetus for your thought to end

He claimed the death tolls under Pol Pot's regime were exagerrated/etc. Usual anti-Western spiel from Chomsky.

Dear /lit/,

I need to read the Infinite Jest, and I need the perfect edition. Which of these, would you say, is the better?

https://www.amazon.com/Infinite-Jest-Novel-20th-Anniversary/dp/0316306053/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1474454906&sr=8-1&keywords=Infinite+Jest

(Ofc more editions are always welcome)

By far the second one.

The white cover is ugly as fuck and the blue cover is the classic meme edition that is instantly recognisable on someone's shelf.

Get the pdf from whichever pirate site of your choice, print several volumes and use a binder for each volume. It will make it easier. And you will not look like a cunt when reading it outside.

I'm planning on writing a book. I'm 21 years old and I'm aware that it will take a long ass time to make with no guarantee it well publish or sell. Advice? Thoughts?

Write a shit ton of short stories instead. It will hone your story telling skills (plot, characterization, how to write dialogue that does sound retarded) and give you feedback on whats good and what sucks.

Then ,when you have enough life experience to write a decent novel, you can bang it out quick.
>>
write some short stuff and get it published in magazines or on a webzone so you can establish yourself as a writer and not just some dude that wrote a book
