Do you think any of the old storytelling formats of the past will ever come back, especially as the present formats (mostly the novel) seem to be receding? Will anyone, for example, ever write another chivalric romance, or another epic poem?
>>8530818
No. Get over it. They're exhausted forms
>>8530825
Wrong and you're a pleb.
>>8530818
Absolutely OP. If you look at poets like Keats and Byron, they brought back romantic and chivalric poems from what was widely considered a dead genre, just as it is today. There's no reason that can't happen today, although it may just not happen with romance and chivalry, but perhaps another 'dead' genre.
>>8530861
I want epic poems to come back so fucking bad.
How did I do lads?
Had a Blackwells gift card so I thought I'd pick up a few things I've been wanting for a while.
>>8530804
poorly. paying more than 99 cents for a book marks you as a fucking pleb.
>>8530819
Was a gift card, so I didn't spend anything. I did try to go for the cheapest option I could on everything though.
>>8530804
Adequate selection, read them don't let them sit around as some physical representation of your desire to be a patrician.
>>8530819
This guy is a trolling nigger don't pay attention to him.
Its your personal library, let him have his own shitty library with some shitty overly worn books stained with some other /lit/tard's cum.
I want to get into serious philosophy.
Is Schopenhauer's 'On Women' the best place to start or is it too challenging and deep for a novice?
It'll tell you your yearning for philosophical justification and intellectual process are a result of your sexual frustration, so if you carry on after that, you're probably only suitable to become a celibate academic rather than reproduce, so you could well succeed in that futile vein of "accomplishment".
of course, to not stumble on that cul-de-sac, you're going to need to sponsor a few whores back to a non-debased state, which is where most of /r9k/ falls down.
try his on suffering next if you think you're doing okay.
>>8530769
> challenging and deep
That little piss-ant straw-man rant is basically a grumpy letter to the editor that could have been penned by any pompous /lit/ misogynist. It can be understood and disregarded by anyone, regardless of brain damage.
>>8530810
>t. male so upset schoppy called his intellectual striving out as just being thirsty he's forgotten the essay even insulted him
Does this eventually get good? I'm about 80 pages in and it's just a bunch of Russians having a tea party.
No, Anna Karenina is his magnum opus. You fucked up.
>>8530679
>P&V
It's your own fault.
>>8530679
About 25 or so more pages and it will, yes. Think of the first 100 pages as an introduction to the characters.
What would be a good site or book to read myths and legends? I wanna write poetry thats more connected with something more mythical. If anyone can help please do.

Bad luck for me i guess
Lit is a slow board, nigga
>you have to read X before you ready Y
Is it the greatest meme of all?
>>8530636
Why are frog shits so stupid?
You could generalise it to:
>"You have to do X before you can do Y."
The Greeks did fuck all and the pseuds worship them most of all.
lol 8/10 made me smile.
but hey, sometimes it is true.
Couple days back i saw this screencap from reddit, about how nothing good happens when you wake up from a bang, the responses to it had me cringing so hard. Anyone have the screenshot

''Waking up to a huge CRASH always means something big is happening. It's never CRASH - mom made pancakes or CRASH - we decided to adopt a golden retriever.''

Really makes you think holy I want more
So, basically we're just gonna act all cynical and detached and ruminate the same old post-modern tropes? That's why your work will always be ersatz shit. There's no compassion, no real need for expression, just sad losers trying to add another facet to their lifestyle. Smarten up, kiddo

Everyone needs the redpill!
Is it really pronounced Ram-bow?
>>8530391
Yeah, too bad Rim-bod sounds better
Is this his best work?
Yes.
It is.
I prefer pic related.
is a philosophy degree at undergrad a good route into practicing law or would that be a mistake?
do any of you have any experience with this?
That's fine.
>>8530345
Yeah, a philosophy degree is basically the default degree people get when planning on doing law. If you do that, look at other prerequisite courses that most law schools require or prefer to make sure you've taken all the pre-law courses your degree might not necessarily require.
But honestly I'm going to a fairly good law school right now, and the most common degrees are philosophy, economics, English and business. You can basically major in whatever you want as long as you do the pre-req courses, get good grades and do well on your LSAT.
>>8530357
Thanks alot. I'll be 27 when I graduate uni, do you think my age will affect my career prospects when it comes to finding work in the legal field? what sort of age range are the students in your school?
>Universal literacy was a mistake
What did he mean by this?
It lead to him being the most popular of philosophers, so it's pretty evident, really.
>>8530119
Why don't you read him? One book, any book really, would be enough.
>>8530255
Because Nietzsche said most people should not read.
Sup /lit/, yes I fell for the meme. I genuinely believe this is the correct way to approach philosophy and literature. In my arsenal I currently have: Mythology, A Brief History of Ancient Greece, Iliad (Fitzgerald) & The Odyssey. My question is what other intermittent books did you find valuable before heading into Plato and Aristotle? Pic related seems dated.
>>8530080

The best part of Karl Ove's books is his friend Geir.
It's hard for me to imagine what I could possibly get out of reading these books.

So did he go to heaven or hell?
He went to books
>>8530024
DFW is in God's presence, as nothing is separate from God.
>Those who love God and prepare themselves to assimilate his light will begin to be transformed even in this life; they become "partakers of the divine nature" (2 Peter 1:4). But those who resist and ignore God "harden their hearts" (Hebrews 3:15). If they "love darkness rather than light" (John 3:19), they will find the inescapable brilliance to be searing misery and paradoxical blindness.
>>8530024
I made a thread about this some time ago
answer was hell
are plays worth reading or are they memes? For example Death of a Salesman, A Streetcar Named Desire etc.
