I'm too refined for this world. Nothing but vulgarity around me.

Was New Sincerity the precursor to the alt-right? Think about it. Ironism is the best liberal, multicultural position. No worldview is inherently superior. Everything I do, then, I do knowing that another way may be superior, and since there are an infinite number of other ways, probably there is one which is superior but I may not be able to recognize it due to the limits of my knowledge. Everything I do is tentative due to this realization.
The New Sincerity was a reaction against the emptiness and hopelessness of the ironic position. How are people supposed to live if there's no way to tell if anything they do is "right"? The response: Whatever I do, I must do with full confidence, since I need to choose to do something even if there are limits to my knowledge. The things I choose are what I've decided is right for me, and maybe not for others, but I can only act on the knowledge available to me. I can only advocate for my own position and for people like me.

I don't even know where to begin with this newfaggotry
>>8776831
New Sincerity was a product of an inevitable ecnomic boom in a hyperconsumerist imperialist capitalist society and alt-right is the product of the inevitable economic crash in a hyperconsumerist imperialist capitalist society.
OMG, like, frig off you racist NAZI.
>significant and large story portions of Berserk are taken straight from Thus Spoke Zarathustra and Nietzsche's Dionysian ideal
>the intro song to Dragon's Dogma, which has references to Berserk also, is called Eternal Return and basically sounds like Aubrey is singing about the death of God
Why is Japan's entertainment so bizarre? And not for the normal reasons here. I just didn't expect to ever see certain high level concepts find their way into lower level entertainment. Or am I just overlooking the western media that actually features Nietzsche's philosophy instead of just dropping his "he who fights monsters" quote at some point in it?
Making this thread on /lit/ since it is about a philosopher and I'm particularly looking for certain stories in media, books as top priority of course. I figured /lit/ would be the best place to ask this. What fiction is strongly inspired by Nietzsche / Zarathustra beyond a superficial connection?
>>8776826
In Japan, people still appreciate culture. That's why anime is so much better than everything else.
>>8776826
Japan's entertainment isn't bizarre- there's plenty of boring lowest-common-denominator shit over in grolious nippon just like there's 'bizarre' philosophical shit over here.
Though I read Berserk and Zarathustra and I'm not really remembering any 'significant and large story portions of Berserk are taken straight from' tbqh
>>8776871
You have to look for the connection. It's subtle. Start with The Night Song, which Nietzsche referred to as a Dionysian dithyramb in Ecce Homo. It's talking about Griffith (Dionysus) where the "dark ones, and night-like" would be Guts. It even mentions an eclipse, and the "many suns" that "circle in barren space" would arguably be the God Hand. Almost every line in that passage can be found somewhere in Berserk, and you can find traces in other passages if you look for it - an obvious other being On the Friend.
Is he, dare I say it, our guy?

Books that have nuanced Jewish characters
Books written by Jews
I especially want to discuss Shakespeare's pic-related and also Walter Scott's Isaac, because I think they're especially interesting.

>I especially want to talk about the stereotype of Jewish moneylenders
subtle
So, what about Shylock? If you want to discuss him, start the discussion, I'd gladly comment if you start, since he is one of my favorite characters from Shakespeare.

Are there any books that can help me learn to argue? Specifically against this argument?
See the /pol/ sticky pic you fucking new faggot kill yourself
argumentation is all just about feelings, logic doesn't really matter in argumentation and should be avoided, just try to subtly piss off your opponent as much as possible until they get really aggravated and flustered and give up out of rage
try reading Schopenhauer's Art of Being Right

Hello.
I'm not a big reader, but I would be very willing to start reading much more often in order to be more cultured in writing film, short stories, and comic narratives. The problem is that there are too many to choose from, and I don't know where to start on my road to "good writing". I'm not as interested in learning how to write stories leaning towards specific genres, as much as I'd like to know how to write good stories in general.
From an artist's standpoint, what books are essential to reference for the road towards good storywriting? I've also begun to read up on tvtropes, to be more familiar with some of the really basic structure of general storywriting and scriptwriting.

I'm nearly done a TEFL course and need to pick somewhere to go to teach English. I trusted you with the meme trilogy, now I'm entrusting you with this.

Not gonna lie the one on the left is my exact type. Aren't these the girls that slowly tortured a cat or something though

Go to Saudi Arabia, UAE or Qatar -- you can make a shit ton of money teaching English in these places. After a few years you'll have enough money to dick off and write your novel or whatever the fuck.
Is this sentence grammatically correct?
>On the surface, Bertha’s strategy of rebellion seems to be less successful at achieving happiness than Helen’s submission; however, it is important to remember that Bertha is systematically disadvantaged in ways that Helen just isn’t: while they are both women, Bertha is also a Creole and very mentally ill.
Is this easy to read, and if not, is there a better way of saying this?
Pls someone help me
Kill yourself
>>8776593
i would find something more formal, as well as more emphatic, than your "just isn't." otherwise it's fine
How come when I read fanfiction shit, I can easily skim and absorb all the information and greatly enjoy the experience, but when I sit down to read an actual book, I have to struggle and re-read things?
I do the same with academic papers.
Is it because the Fanfiction shit is of lower quality?
I've tried many books and I get the same problem. How can I fix this shit? I must be doing something while reading fanfiction shit that I'm doing while reading real shit.
it's because you expect 'real' books to be challenging and doubt yourself while consuming them, which makes you stop and backtrack a lot
>>8776436
Well fuck.
So it's just insecurity that's behind it? God damn. I have an appointment with my shrink next week and I was thinking of talking to her about me possibly having ADHD.
If it IS insecurity, how can I start the process of overcoming this shit? It's really annoying.

Pirate an ebook copy of what you want to read, convert it to 10 pt Verdana Fanfiction.net style in a number of HTML pages complete with a stupid author username like xrugglesx94, then read the result
Hey anon I'm david foster wallace head of Dalkey archives. I called you today to discuss the book you sent in. I didn't actually get time to read it, but I really liked your name so I called anyways. what's your book about and why should I publish it?
>>8776417
It's about an author who kills himself so people will pretend his books were good.
Well Dave it's about tennis and smokin weed and growing up in America watching too much TV which I think has very ambiguous effects on the youth. I dont know if you read any of my essays but I watch a lot of TV and play a lot of tennis so it's semi-autobiographical but I'm gonna need a big advance because I'm out of money Dave
Just realized his brow ridge is practically non-existent... no wonder he was such a fag.
Write the most memorable post that you possibly can.
Who can leave the biggest mark?
Me in my underpants lmao
>>8776391
Memorable posts can't be written with the intention of leaving a mark.
Memorable posts are something that were meant to disappear, a simple thought casted into the void of imageboard but were so insightful or original someone decided to archive them.
i was something, but it wasn't enough.
