What's the Moomins of the German literature?

Are moomins dogs or what?
>>
>>8802919
In what regard?

A classic children books author would be Otfried Preußler. His most famous works are Krabat and Der Räuber Hotzenplotz. Don't know if that answers your question though.

how do i into comfy moomin lit? is there a standard collection of the complete moomin or something?

Alright lads, I've been writing shorts for a community theatre company for around 6 months now. It's run by an idiot pseud who thinks that "talking about le atheism while making le epic millennial pop culture references" is deep, so when I brought something with even a little bit of actual substance, it was an auto-accept. Over time, I've been gradually testing to see how shitty I can write but still get produced. So far my best/worst submission was literally just a longform mathematical proof.

How do I make something even stupider? I want to continue shitposting on this guy's stage, but I'm running out of cancerous things to submit.

Just have a guy quote a chapter of Infinite Jest, then close the book and make a declarative sentence about what current social issue the book represents.

Ok, I thinks it's a better board than /tv/ to ask my question, so:
I'm kinda interested in movies, but I have a problem with talking about them, analyzing and forming my own opinion. I can tell what is the main theme of the movie but I can't point out less obvious things in discussion even though I'm aware of them.
So my question is, is this book gonna help me or the only solution is to watch more movies?
11 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Watch more films is probably the right answer...

But of course don't expect to gain understanding on a medium automatically, you'll have to analyze it deeply and start paying a lot of attention

You could even sign to film school but if its not your goal to make films i wouldnt recommend that route
>>
>>8802847
I haven't read the book, but I assume that a widely approved work on film analysis will improve your ability to analyze films. You can also head over to r/truefilm to lurk and practice your movie criticism. I am sending you to r/truefilm because as we all know /tv/ is useless.
>>
>>8802847
You can also check out some of the movie criticism by /lit/ authors such as Zizek and Deleuze. Zizek has a ton of stuff on Hitchcock and Deleuze has two works called "Cinema." Also check out Zizek's Pervet's Guide to Cinema. It has some great stuff if you can put up with his terrible accent.

I really want to start with Joyce, but I'm afraid that I won't understand everything if it's in English. Can a translation destroy the pleasure from reading his books?

Stop being afraid and just accept you won't understand everything. This isn't like a video game with achievements, if you miss something that's part of the fun.
>>
>>8802833
Just get an annotated or critical version, like penguin or norton
>>
>>8802842
Honestly I think it'd be depressing to understand everything in a work.

If one doesn't subscribe to scientific realism, utilitarianism, hedonism, metaphysics or religion, how does one go about adopting a particular moral stance on abortion?

Also, I don't browse /pol/. I am clearly asking about adopting a stance, I never said a right wing one.

Christ, shut the fuck up.

You don't need a moral stance on abortion.

>As he lie in the darkness, contemplating the day, it dawned on him how very much like Homer's epic it had been. At least for one fateful day, 16 June 1904, Leopold Bloom had truly become the man, the adventurer immortalized in verse and celebrated throughout the ages. He had finally become--Ulysses.

Should I read Dostoevsky's other works (Devils, The Idiot, The Adolescent) before reading The Brother's Karamazov (tl: Avsey)?

Read Notes from Underground and Crime and Punishment already.

I don't really like it but I can't tell if that's just me trying to protect myself from feeling good about something I've written and allowing myself to be surprised by criticism, or if it isn't very good, or both.

It's probably both.

Are analytics really as bad as they seem?
>>
>>8802380
Pretty fucking bad. Read Collingwood's Autobiography, the part about his time as a teacher of philosophy at Oxford and his experience of the British philosophical milieu that was giving birth to Russell's analytic philosophy among Anglos. It's telling that Collingwood, one of the only good Anglo readers of German philosophy at the time, basically does not interact at all with the nascent analytic tradition. Because it had nothing to do with it, despite thinking it had surmounted it.

They're basically a bunch of pedantic cunts eager to dismiss prior philosophy that they barely read, and jerk each other off over it. When logic comes along, they jump on logicism like a bandwagon. When positivism and dogmatic empiricism come along, they jump on them like bandwagons.

The Anglo-Analytic "style" right from these beginnings up until quite recently was to have a monolithic, preconceived, and disastrously unreflective epistemology (formal logic), hold other philosophical systems up to it just long enough to show that they don't fit into the arbitrary rules, and then take pleasure in shitting on them for it. Fair claims of French and German obscurantism just emboldened Anglos in being cunts, and made them dig in their heels.

Hey /lit/,

I'm participating in a short story classes this winter, led by an amazing old fart who likes to challenge us with pretty much every task. BTW: It's not English speaking country, in fact I live in tiny tiny country of Slovenia. (Sort of better known now with Melania and all).

Now thing is, our last exercise was genre literature and I got horror. I thought to myself: an easy task. I love horror, Stephen King especially. But then ... Here's a problem.

Nothing ever happens in my counry. There are no "large swathes of savage country" like perhaps in Sweden. Everything is small. Everything is close. Everyone knows everyone. We had like TWO (and not very sucesfull) serial killers in 50 years. Thing is, most violence here is introverted - performed over spouses and close relatives.(murder). We have no ancient indian burial grounds ... I checked and in last 30 years, 80 people are missing. 80 in a whole country and most of them are people who got themselves killed in the mountains. So yeah, no drifters, no "murders in the night", no "strangers with a shotgun in your bedroom". We have a murder out of jealousy here and there that is not within family, but its rare.

All the fucking general "Horror setups" are gone here. How am I supposed to write a horror story in this boring not-extroverted place?

I know some people may go berserk, because I have missed something obvious, but I'm lurking on 4chan for past 10 years and i like ideas you guys provide.

I'd appreciate any feedback

Very often writers argue that we are losing touch with Nature, or that Industrialisation was a bad thing.

Are there any books that provide an effective counter-argument to this? Something pro-technology but not necessarily anti-ecology.
