From my observations it becomes a meme if its talked about on /lit/ at least once per week.

/lit/ i can't appreciate classical fairy tales at all. i'm supposed to be writing an analysis of a particular aspect of literary fairy tales, and i'm considering talking about contemporary perception of physical and mental disability and how those are portrayed in the genre but other than that i've fuck all for ideas. any other ideas? the feminist and freudian perspectives are a little played out.

Write about the portrayal of animals you dumb fuck.
>>
>>8803447
I think a critical disability approach to Fairy Tales is fairly novel, could turn out to be interesting. I'm assuming you're familiar with Vladimir Propp and all that, but if not give "The Morphology of the Folktale" a read. Important information there about how (specifically Russian, but also other) fairy tales are structured, and you can use that narratological approach to inform a reading. Perhaps you could go so far to say that fairy tales are structurally ableist? Not sure, but that kind of bold claim is almost mandatory for undergrad papers.

It's my gf's birthday. She only reads things about detectives and serial killers. The most /lit/-related book she has read is Lolita.

Should I get her Infinite Jest or Ulysses?

Recommendations thread.

I'm looking for a realistic (or even nonfiction) book with a dark/depressing tone that is also uplifting. I'd prefer something that is not a difficult read or overly long. This is for a friend who wants to start reading and he described what he's looking for as: "reality in the worst way, so it's possible to relate but also shows you that it's not all that bad".

welcome to /lit/

your post is so mind-shatteringly stupid that this is literally all i can think of in response

there was literally just an election three weeks ago that tore apart the fabric of time and space because there is patently no majority and even less philosophy at work in the united states

By the very nature of philosophy there is an intrinsic position held by every one weather acknowledged or not, But i do understand what your saying so i rebuttal with what is the philosophical alignment of the Republican party

Does Gene Wolfe have brain problems? All of his protagonists have the same semi-sociopathic personality (except of course Severian who is completely sociopathic) and seem to have no mental filter on what they say. I'm reading the Wizard Knight and our hero has such memorable lines as "a man intent on rape could do much worse than you"

In fact, it is the rest of mankind who has brain problems in comparison. The lame, effete, and pathetic, who can suss nothing deep or implied. A man intent on rape could do much better than you.
