Just purchased Ego and His Own.
Who has read this and what did you think? What should I expect?
>What should I expect?
Retarded prose. And, close to the beginning, a commentary on why Mongolians and Negroes are inferior to Europeans.
Just fucking read it you dipshit. Why do people keep making these retarded threads.

>Mongolians
no
This is your daily reminder that there are no well-read users on this board.
You already knew /lit/ was horseshit, you just forgot. Which is why I'm reminding you, so that you can close this tab now.
The people on this board are all 19 year olds who haven't touched the books whose titles they meme constantly. The users who made IJ, GR, and Ulysses the meme books stopped posting here years ago.
When was the last time you saw serious literary discussion on this board?
/lit/ is dead and no, there is no chance of its revival. Time to leave before you lose more brain cells.
Maybe you'll have more time to crack down on your reading list! I wish you luck.

Fuck.......... you're right
Basically yeah.
It's pushing books that nobody has actually read, or understood, but because it makes them look smart for saying they like it, and philosophical discussions from people who had a D- grade in philosophy 101 before they dropped out of college.
That's kind of the point, though.
How do you make an antagonistic main character, one that is objectively bad in his actions, but at the same time endearing enough to be relatable to readers
Be a good writer
Funny you mention that, I think I've done just that.
Nope, not telling you how I did it either.

You have to make him understandable, with motivations and values that normal people feel, too. The evil part should come from how he acts on those motivations. Give him traits that everyone values, like intelligence or determination, so the reader feels at least respect for him.
>pic related
pic related is one of my favorite novels of all time.
What else can you recommend that's similar? Something that is, essentially, just the surreal description of madness and chaos for the duration of an entire book? Possibly with some allegory or political/social commentary thrown in.
I've read my Kafka, so let's not go there, /lit/.

Has this ever been translated to English?
I would love to learn Polish, sure, but haven't exactly made plans to do so any time soon.

The Divine Comedy was written by a FUCKING WHITE MALE so it's inherently inferior.
Would you say that some Kindergarten drawings are on the same level as the fresco in the Sistine Chapel?
I recently purchases his Confessions and heard he was a great influence on Ludwig Wittgenstein and Martin Heidegger.
Because they're Catholics.
>>9047951
really good writer, lots of very aesthetic moments. read confessions. chapter 8 is sublime.
city of god is skippable if you're not hardcore interested in catholic theological history
>>9047951
I find him amazing. Is there anything in particular that you would like to discuss? His ethics perhaps?
Thoughts?

just finished the letters. loved the whole iconoclastic shtick at the end about missing God above for the cross pointing to Him
shit, garbage, should never have been born
his verse is stiff
his ideas unoriginal
his personality abhorrent
he was cute in 1900 but ugly as sin thereafter
and I completely resonate with him
I've always dreamed of being a writer, and have decided to give it a go. I'm no snowflake and I know it will be a hard road and chances are no one will read my terrible writing. I've turned 32 recently.
However, my company has offered to pay 80% of my tuition if I pursue a master's degree in nursing informatics. I currently hold a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (I wanted to be an English major but I went with the steady job for my wife and kid). This would be 2 years of full time work and full time online classes.
The degree would look nice, and set me up for a job 4 years from now, but currently I make 60k a year working nights with not a lot of stress and usually a lot of free time for writing at work.
What would you do? I know this will probably die with no replies, but it felt good to type it out.
Suck a few dicks, chill

How much writing have you done?
>male nurse
You sound like a cuck
Is reading too much Poetry a bad thing?
probably not, reading too much of anything might make you delusional though
>>9047877
What about if the amount of poetry you read outweighs the amount of fiction and non- fiction you read?
"Too much" is a negative valuation. Your question is pointless.
Aside from Don Quixote, what is the greatest work of literature ever written?

So, how many books do you own, /lit/?
I was just going through my bookshelf and i started thinking that i actually have a quite decent collection - i mean i have a variety of books of different authors, with probably at least one from the most notable ones (~the greeks~, shakespeare, dante, dickens, tolstoy/dostoevsky, etc)
i'm too lazy to count them all but i think i must have at least 700, it's probably around 700-800
i'm not trying to brag (lol), in fact the point of asking this question was because it occured to me that my book collection would be considered good in comparison to the average pleb collection that probably has no more than 50, most of them being school ones
but i also think there must be some people out there that do seriously collect books and have a much bigger collection than me, in comparison to which i probably would look like a pleb and a shameful casual
so, how many do you own?
also, (if you write) what do you do to keep going when writer's block occurs to you. or just in general
right now i'm happy because i've started writing regularly again, but also a bit worried because i've been also started using uppers(stimulants) again and i don't want to acknowledge the fact they might be crucial for my writing/sorta depend of them.
>>9047547
i've also started using* dah
>>9047547
Only have 2 book at any one time usually. I give all my books away or throw them away whenever I am done reading them.
I dont have an inferior complex that I need to compensate for with a collection of books.
If I see anyone with a large book collections it makes me suspicious that person is a pretentious are that I need to avoid.
You might want to go to rehab soon, not for the drugs; for the book collection addiction.
