I really want to learn french, /lit/, please help. I'm monolingual but I've never attempted to actively learn a language to the point of fluency so I'm confused as to where to start.
please no memes
A Guide to learning every language ever:
Step 1: learn major rules of grammar (shouldn't take more than a week)
Step 2: cram 1000-1500 most common words, use Anki or some shit (shouldn't take longer than a month)
Step 3: get a dictionary and start reading books
You're welcome, fampai
Memrise (vocab) and Duolingo (grammar) are great to start off.
Read children's books and watch children's shows to start off. As you get better and better watch some more mature content.
Learning a language isn't hard, sticking with it is.

What is this obsession with 'comfy' things?

because what do you end up with upon pursuing nihilism?
nothing.
and do you want something?
most likely.
ergo, nihilism probably isnt for you.
it's a critique that writes itself.
Nothing because there is nothing

something can matter to you but still be essentially meaningless
What are some lyricists in popular music that you would say have written some lyrics of artistic merit?
I say only popular music because the libretto of classical was often written by respected authors of the time.
>>9033833
Dylan, Cohen, Vega, Mitchell, Simon, Porter, Lennon, McCartney, Reed, Cave, Morrison, Young, Nelson, Cash, Bono, etc. Most good bands or singer-songwriters can pull off at least a little interesting poetic turn or artistic merit in their words. I'm sure there are rappers who do good work to, rather than just rapping about how well they rap, but I'm racist and ignorant, so other than Saul Williams and Speech, no idea.

Scene 1
Shows guy on tinder, swiping left and right. Then suddenly a match happens. Man is happy.
Scene 2
Cut to date scene at restaurant, man flirts courteously. Woman smiles, taps on phone, man touches woman's hand. After dinner, the woman taps phone and man kisses woman. It appears that there is a special consent mechanism for sexual advances. Guy makes unfunny sex joke, woman prudishly rejects, presses other button on phone. Man leaves in dejection.
Scene 3
Guy goes home. His computer is hacked and there is a strange webpage and a symbol of what looks like a phallus. Guy is redpilled on the present state of affairs. Why the supercomputer exists in the first place is never known. Why he has to get consents everytime he makes an advance. Guy shuts down his computer and reports the incident to the policewoman.
Scene 4
Hacker 1 is watching the actions unfold on webcam. He shuts down the connection. Hacker 2(female) comes up beside him, shows him latest exploits. Door is broken in, alarm sounds, policewomen are here. Hacker 1 initiates escape sequence with the exploit, hacker 2 fails to do the same and is apprehended by the policewomen.
Scene 5
hacker 1 applies exploits and hacks supercomputer. Giving everyman consent and world devolves into a massive rape-orgy forcing everybody to have sex with all others.

Why write this as a play and not, say, a novel? How are you going to show any of these retarded scenes on stage, especially Scene 5? Also your post reeks of /pol/ and /r9k/, so fuck off back to your shithole and post your garbage 'script' there.
I have come across some assorted paragraphs and chapter segments that were discarded from a few of the books in the Harry Potter series. I know /lit/ hates HP (as do I) but I thought you might all be interested

>Naipaul, who has been described as the "greatest living writer of English prose", was asked if he considered any woman writer his literary match. He replied: "I don't think so." Of Austen he said he "couldn't possibly share her sentimental ambitions, her sentimental sense of the world".
>He felt that women writers were "quite different". He said: "I read a piece of writing and within a paragraph or two I know whether it is by a woman or not. I think [it is] unequal to me."
>The author, who was born in Trinidad, said this was because of women's "sentimentality, the narrow view of the world".

How do I get back into reading? I haven't read in 5 years and I'd really like to have a wonderful experience with a fiction book like I've had in the past. The only reading I've done within the last 5 years was either online or technical books like dictionaries or encyclopedias. Come to think of it, I've done a lot of reading on wikipedia. That's where I get most of my information from.
>>9053350
These guys are going to bog you down with a lot of dense literature and required readings for required readings for books you "Don't get" until the fifth time through. It's not what you're asking for. What are you into? Try the hitchiker's guide to the galaxy series or anything by Douglas Adams. You can breeze through them all in a week and get some momentum going and get a good, encouraging sense of what it feels like to watch pages disappear.
Nonfictions:
Carl Sagan for a good sense of size and scale of the universe, the place of life in it.
Richard Dawkins for the ideal of altruism in an indifferent universe.
Terence mckenna for drugs
Jung to understand Terence mckenna
Julian Jaynes to make you say what the fuck
Noam Chomsky to open your eyes
Tolkien to know what all fantasy wishes it was.
Doctor who to know what all scifi wishes it was.
David foster wallace if you want to know what everyone on /lit/ wishes they was.
Quick, get away from this place before it's too late.

WOJAK CONSIDERS THE FRISBEES
Over the window sheets taped up flush the Mountain Dew
bottles monitor-blue. The lamp dim. Wojak
at 25 and not a match or text back. The parks opened
splendid
today, yesterday, the day before. Blankets
spread and frisbees wheeling —An instantaneous taste,
to think what I’d do even darkly to lean, elbows
against the grass, head
by head, moving, close, heat—a graze
and the fear like a rearrangement of all the vital organs.
—Would you tell ‘em about your ranking, ol’ Wojak,
ol’ pal, the double kill frisson that really
sets your sperm flicking? Would you tell ‘em
about your construction paper face,
the outlines struck in brilliance across the glass
of the laptop
screen, the porn still rolling a thousand
needles deep, and the history, and the ritual erasure?
—I don’t care. I’m a man. Or I will
be. The kachunk flapping like a broken reel of trains
at midday, the relentless pushing
forward tells me it gets better. It has to.
Pepe grin: oh yes, Wojak, it certainly
certainly does.

WOJAK REMEMBERS THE TIME HIS FATHER BANNED HALO AND SHOWED HIM ROTIFERS
In the trippy gif looped farmhouses unravel to lobes of water. School
four hours away and still awake, Wojak leans forehead
to screen —Pepe do you remember
my father said no Halo all weekend, pinched a thimbleful of dirt he scratched
from a tarp laid over the Sunfire out back, and pricking
that pipette, proboscis
like a needle, said Wojak, Wojak fetch me a slide out my work drawer
and we’ll resurrect rotifers
over root beer
—Pissed you were Wojak [*froggy tongue knocks on bed slats*] when Xbox
live cut out, all jittery and junky-lipped we withdrew, felt
like nerve roots
shucked from their casings and [*wince*] crushed —Oh god at his microscope I sat
while the clan match raged through the cloud without
me, thinking about the black
half of the moon closing its aperture on my gamertag —Did he [*pond breath
methane-hot in the ear*] press your eye
to the glass? —He pressed
my eye to the glass [*paisley chunks of clarity against the cornea*] he said tell me
what you see —What did you see?
—Nothing
meaningless little lives. He said, his shoulder against mine, aren’t they like water
wheels, brooms or palm trees? I turned
the knob,
Burial Mounds’ cliffs burnished rust on my brain, and a thinness twisted,
broke within me while I watched rotifers
writhe in utter
anonymity. I wanted my screen back. I wanted my gun back —An updraft
[*nose slits tighten*] something clear
and powerful
blew to burst the tiny wingspan of Wojak’s lil heart, didn’t it
darling? You saw —I saw
nothing
—You saw darkly then what comes to focus now thru hindsight’s immersion
oil: you wasted a dead dad bonding afternoon dreaming of
Halo. Boo hoo
the internet is full of afternoons.

PEPE WALPURGISNACHT
I pluck the moon’s scalpel and run it across
my wrist. Diarrhea spritz dapples Rorschach brown
across the mirror. This is the life
of endless chicken tendies, mommy always
waiting at the door with a tray of ranch dipping cups
and iodine swabs for when I get hungry
or nuts. Chastity cage Wojak beneath the bed
can’t break his restraints to dull my hootenanny—bliss
to fill a jug with piss and rub one out
to the waifu, leave a curled surprise for mommy
under her pillow. Shit-posting all Saturday night,
I froggy dance around this screen’s digital bon fire
dreaming my poopoo-toad anime trickster god dreams,
a whole terabyte of porn straight to the dome
gets me seeing what the meme-shaman sees: clouds
like cum-rags hardened to solid platinum,
the only currency accepted in the Pepe planetarium:
look at that constellation: spatter of tad poles
across the zenith right from the head of my amphibian
penis! I’m a four-finned smug surf-and-turfer
with a nose for farts, my thumb and pointer finger
wrenched into an OK-pinch at my lips. Trench coat popped,
tapping my crocs, my haunches split and kicking,
I leap and piss and prance for the Pepe Walpurgisnacht!

Lads I need help with writing my son a children's book. I have some ideas already, I just need the in between. The book is called The poop that took a pee. It's all about this piece of shit that through hard work and practise learned how to pee. During the book he goes around to a bunch of different Bodily functions ( like barf, a sneeze/snot, a cough/phlegm ) and asks them if they would like to see his new trick, peeing. All of the Bodily functions don't even give him the time of day and tell him there's no way he could ever pee. Yatta Yatta yatta ( this is the in between I need help with) eventually he shows it to a function that will listen to him and then they go to show the rest of the functions. Poop shows them and he tells them they can do anything they want as long as they practise. So the last page is all of them together barf will be shitting everywhere, pee with be sneezing and getting boogers on everyone, the cough will be barfing on everyone else and it's one giant cluster fuck. So what do you guys think?

Could Sam Harris beat him in a debate?
Whom?
>>9052623
Easily.
Sam is very concise and rarely uses non-arguments. The only thing I don't understand and which compromises his integrity completely is his insistence on moral realism.
A non-cognitivist Sambo could not be stopped.

For reading high, only either read poetry or read something you've read before.
Do not read anything new, it's boring when you realize halfway through a page you've forgotten everything in there
But when you read for prose or for poetry when high, it's an amazing experience desu. If you're going to reread a novel, don't read for plot, read for prose, for the use of language, and for imagery.
have fun my lit friend
>>9052624
